- David D1,027 contributionsA high point with scenic viewsA tower stands at a scenic viewpoint from which you can see the forests and the mountains and the town of Karlovy Vary nestled in the valley below. Many of the visitors to Karlovy Vary over the centuries have visited here, including Goethe. A funicular takes you from the town to the summit, and there are pleasant paths and hikes through the surrounding woods.Written June 9, 2022
- Elina MichaelidouLondon, United Kingdom478 contributionsBeautiful views from the top of the towerThe tower offers great views of Karlovy Vary and the nearby, and the best part is that it's free. The area around the tower has also a few more activities to do, such as the mini zoo and the butterfly garden. It is really worth visiting the tower and the hill, in general, if you have a couple of hours to spare.Written December 12, 2022

Diana is an observation tower located in the forests above the Grandhotel Pupp. The tower can be reached by walking on the spa trails or you can get there by the funicular. Admission to the observation tower is free (if you don´t want to go up the stairs, you can use a lift). Diana offers a wonderful view of the entire Karlovy Vary and its surroundings.
Next to the tower is a forest restaurant, Butterfly House and a small animal corner. White peacock also walk in the area.

This unique location offers a view over the whole Karlovy Vary area. Situated on the hill in the forest. You can get there by foot, but the path is pretty steep. You can also take the funicular, but be prepare to wait in line for at least 30 minutes. Once upstairs )) you can not only visit the Tower but also take a nice walk in the forest. You can also find a butterfly house, mini zoo and a restaurant next to Diana.

As my hike took me around the lookout tower, of course I made sure to go up there. I love lookout towers and views, and yes, the views are really nice. However, the tower is really crowded, even in these coronavirus times, when, I believe there's hardly any tourists here compared to other years.
I would probably skip it in normal times, this way it was still more or less OK.

We caught the funicular at 10am so there was no queue to get to the top of the Diana tower and we had it almost to ourselves. Great views of karlovy vary and surrounding countryside. Really nice walk back down the hill through the beautiful forest - it took us about 30 minutes and it wasn’t too challenging.

We stayed in Prague but traveled out by bus (2hrs) a bit tiering but worth it. A great day out with beautiful views. We went to the highest point where you can get a tram lift up and down. So scenic! Worth the visit! Lots of lovely restaurants not too pricey. A full days visit to plan for

You can see all of Karlovy Vary and how the water shapes the town. This is a must do when visiting the area just to take in the region. It is beautiful!
Our kids had a great time going up the stairs, but there is a fully functioning elevator that my wife and I kept our eyes on as we worked our way to the top. No matter your mode of travel, the view from the top is worth it.

The funicular is a must if you ever visit Karlovy vary. The view is great and the view from the tower is even better. The restaurant is really good, prices are okay and the portions per person are enough. All the trip and the place itself gave us such a peaceful vibe

Very good lookout tower over Karlovy Vary. Took the tram up the hill and had a beer before walking up to the top of the tower. There is an elevator for those who want it. Great view from the top. Definitely worth the trip. No facilities for those who cannot walk it.

It is an amaizing place to have a look at everything around Karlovy Vary. It may be windy so be prepared. Then you may have a wonderful walk down via the forest to the city. It is better to use the funicular to get there l.

Karlovy Vary is a legendary place. The streets, the shops, the warm water flowing naturally.
There's no doubt, K-Vary has it's magic. If you arrived here, you cannot skip the Diana Lookout Tower. It is located almost at the end of the main walking promenade.
There are two ways to get up to the tower:
1. The somewhat small funicular (see photos attached). It reaches the top in about 90 seconds. You can buy a one way ticket or a round trip. If you bought a one way and than decided to use it downwards, you would eventually have to pay extra 10 czk. Not a big deal.
2. Walking through the woods. As it is a very steep incline, you should choose the walking option for the way down and not for climbing up. There is more than one walking lane (some are longer than others) and you should ask someone to help you choose the right one for you.
If you are young and healthy, as you reach the tower - climb the stairs. It takes no more than 5 minutes to climb up and it is much faster than waiting for the slow elevator. The view is absolutely amazing. You can even see the woods that mark the border between Czech Republic and Germany.

Hello! I will be visiting in early Nov with 2 elder parents and a 20 month old. I would like to know:
1) What are the opening hours of the mini zoo?
2) Are there any manageable scenic routes or nearby locations worth checking out before we head back onto the funicular for the return trip?

Hello,
1. it is open from 9am until 6pm every day like the butterfly museum. The butterfly museum is more interesting than the mini zoo. I recommend going for lunch, because up there is a very nice restaurant with good local food.
2. yes, but to go up or down to this place, which with elderly parents I do not recommend, because even in November you can find snow. The place is really small, don't wait for much, but it is worth visiting, because from the tower you will find the viewpoint over the city. In the tower find the elevator that will take you up.

What is the ideal car park location when visiting the Funicular train (behind Grandhotel Pupp)?

Dear Sara.
Thank you for your question.
Yes, the restaurant is located just a few meters from the tower.
Unfortunatly, cars cannot go via the spa forest to our place - it´s highly protected area from noise or pollution...
I would recommend to use the funicular or to come on foot. It´s a beautiful walk ;-)
More information can be found on our official web pages.

Dear Miriam,
yes, it is very easy. For detailed information about how to get to our place incl. interactive map please visit our homepage - made in four language versions to choose from.
The price for taxi from central bus station to Grandhotel Pupp (close place from the funicular station) costs 120 CZK - 250 CZK, depending on taxi company you choose.
Looking forward to your visit!
Kind regards
Michael.
