There are lots of towers in Europe, most much bigger than this one! But Diana Observation Tower is up on the mountain, giving big beautiful wide views of the charming town of Karlovy Vary. Words cannot describe the view, just checkout the pictures...you get a nice view of both city and nature. A very reasonable 150CZK$6.50 buys you a roundtrip ride on the funicular to the tower, and the park area. Hopefully you have better luck during your visit than mine...the elevator was not working!

Where - walking south - the compact core of the historic city of Karlovy Vary ends, at the Pupp hotel, a funicular takes you a few hundred meters uphill to this tower.
The arrival point of the funicular is already prominent; but this quality is enhanced by the height of the tower, which allows the view to be elevated above the curtain of thick trees covering the entire hill, and also the whole of the surrounding hills.
Thus, not far to the north-west side, the Erzgebirge mountain range appears, indicating the border with Germany; and in the other directions a series of less prominent hills, heavily wooded and lonely, contrasting singularly with the urbanization of the underlying valley floor of the Tepla river, in which the spa area is located, and of the northern districts of the city, which can be seen further away.
The beauty of these hills easily induces the desire to follow their paths; firstly the one – 17 km long – leading to the beautiful village of Loket
It's also worth noting that the climb to the tower is free, a rather rare feature among this type of buildings.

A tower stands at a scenic viewpoint from which you can see the forests and the mountains and the town of Karlovy Vary nestled in the valley below. Many of the visitors to Karlovy Vary over the centuries have visited here, including Goethe. A funicular takes you from the town to the summit, and there are pleasant paths and hikes through the surrounding woods.

You can go up by doing a short excursion (2.5km round trip), in general the terrain is flat; or you can go up with the cable car (ticket is purchased). The views are good but due to the large vegetation you will not see the entire city. If you have little time, it is better to take the cable car or you can also skip this attraction.

The tower offers great views of Karlovy Vary and the nearby, and the best part is that it's free. The area around the tower has also a few more activities to do, such as the mini zoo and the butterfly garden. It is really worth visiting the tower and the hill, in general, if you have a couple of hours to spare.

Diana is an observation tower located in the forests above the Grandhotel Pupp. The tower can be reached by walking on the spa trails or you can get there by the funicular. Admission to the observation tower is free (if you don´t want to go up the stairs, you can use a lift). Diana offers a wonderful view of the entire Karlovy Vary and its surroundings.
Next to the tower is a forest restaurant, Butterfly House and a small animal corner. White peacock also walk in the area.

This unique location offers a view over the whole Karlovy Vary area. Situated on the hill in the forest. You can get there by foot, but the path is pretty steep. You can also take the funicular, but be prepare to wait in line for at least 30 minutes. Once upstairs )) you can not only visit the Tower but also take a nice walk in the forest. You can also find a butterfly house, mini zoo and a restaurant next to Diana.

As my hike took me around the lookout tower, of course I made sure to go up there. I love lookout towers and views, and yes, the views are really nice. However, the tower is really crowded, even in these coronavirus times, when, I believe there's hardly any tourists here compared to other years.
I would probably skip it in normal times, this way it was still more or less OK.

We caught the funicular at 10am so there was no queue to get to the top of the Diana tower and we had it almost to ourselves. Great views of karlovy vary and surrounding countryside. Really nice walk back down the hill through the beautiful forest - it took us about 30 minutes and it wasn’t too challenging.

Hello! I will be visiting in early Nov with 2 elder parents and a 20 month old. I would like to know:
1) What are the opening hours of the mini zoo?
2) Are there any manageable scenic routes or nearby locations worth checking out before we head back onto the funicular for the return trip?
Written August 19, 2019
Hello,
1. it is open from 9am until 6pm every day like the butterfly museum. The butterfly museum is more interesting than the mini zoo. I recommend going for lunch, because up there is a very nice restaurant with good local food.
2. yes, but to go up or down to this place, which with elderly parents I do not recommend, because even in November you can find snow. The place is really small, don't wait for much, but it is worth visiting, because from the tower you will find the viewpoint over the city. In the tower find the elevator that will take you up.

Dear Sara.
Thank you for your question.
Yes, the restaurant is located just a few meters from the tower.
Unfortunatly, cars cannot go via the spa forest to our place - it´s highly protected area from noise or pollution...
I would recommend to use the funicular or to come on foot. It´s a beautiful walk ;-)
More information can be found on our official web pages.

Dear Miriam,
yes, it is very easy. For detailed information about how to get to our place incl. interactive map please visit our homepage - made in four language versions to choose from.
The price for taxi from central bus station to Grandhotel Pupp (close place from the funicular station) costs 120 CZK - 250 CZK, depending on taxi company you choose.
Looking forward to your visit!
Kind regards
Michael.

Written March 2, 2015
