Out of this fountain, the hot mineral water gushes up to 12 meters high. It is run only by the natural pressure of the water. The water is nearly 75°C hot. Unfortunately, we saw only the outside spring, as the building with the inside fountain was already closed. The water is from the main source of Karlovy Vary mineral waters, which is also used for bathes. When it is windy, the water is spread all over the square and you can breath the air enriched with aerosoles of mineral water. Also just watching the fountain is interesting, as the water gushes not constantly with the same speed and height.

The Vridlo is located at the Hot Spring Colonnade in the centre of spa town. Presently(temporerly?) is situated in front of the glass dome. Inside the dome there are 3 smaller springs. The Vridlo rises from the depth of 3000 meters (9000 ft) and gushes up to 12 meters above the ground. Its temperature is 73C (163F) and the yield 2000 litres/min (500 gal.)The CO2 content is 400mg/litre. Remaining 12 thermal springs have lower temperature(29 - 63C), and mostly lower content of CO2.Different temperatures,CO2 contents and salt contents play the major role in treatments of variety disorders(diabetes, metabolic, gout, diseases, liver, gallbladder etc.).The most famous spring is The Mill Spring, located at The Mill Colonnade, The Mill Colonnade is one of the most beautiful architecture realised in the Golden years (19st.) of Carlsbad.

You should not miss the Vřídlo hot spring, the symbol of this world-famous spa city. Vřídlo is the only source of thermal water used for the local spa baths, 72 °C mineral water. The mineral water is used also for drinking cures and you can take a guided tour of the old part of the underground thermal spring. The visitors will learn about the production of the souvenirs known as stone rosettes, which can purchase here along with thermal spring salt.

This a communist-era building from the 1970s. The feeling is a bit like a time machine, taking you back to tourism behind the Iron Curtain. The tourist booths seem not to have changed over the last 50 years. From an architectural point of view this building ruins the otherwise well-preserved façade of Karlovy Vary. All in all this building is not really worth more than 5-10min of your time.

Despite the fact that the building where the spring shoots over 10m high was build in communist era and is really ugly, you can buy tickets for underground visit of "Vridlo" which is much more interesting !

The building next to it offers spring water for drnking on 3 different temperatures. We tasted most of the thermal spring waters in Karlovy Vary but this one tasted best. We couldn't see it shoot up and didn't plan to wait as well as it was too cold. One can as well enjoy warm waffles on entry of the building.

We spent a day trip in Karlovy Vary, and were astounded at the magnificent Hot Springs which were more like the Iceland Geysers! So we sampled the mineral waters with the special Karlovy Cups and bathed in the steam thermals of Vridlo on our walk up to the Grand Hotel Pupp & Funicular Railway for our Lunch in the Rustic Log Cabin Restaurant Diana!

KLV is my hometown, geyser used to be higher and was going all the time. Now they turn it off somehow and the colonnade closes at 7:00 pm. The original colonnade was an awesome building, made from cast iron and glass. Torn down during world war 2 and rebuilt in wood. In the late 60 and early 70 the idiotic communistic government built this hideous concrete box instead the original colonnade. So it lost a bit of its old time charm.
However there is a possibility to visit the underground of the hot spring with a guide. It is very interesting.

The biggest hot spring in Karlovy Vary spa. The building is little bit ugly, but there are several hot springs to drink inside.
