Hiking trails are closed due to fire 2023 (danger of falling trees)
You can only take a short walk to Pravcicka brana and back.
Wild Gorge not accessible. Many blackened trees have already been cut down. Hrensko seems extinct. The Chinese stalls were open but there was no one there.
You can do better hiking in the Sasische Schweiss Germany.

We walked from Hernesko. You can get a basic map in the tourist information that gives all the information you need regarding the route. you walk for about 20-30 minutes and than take a boat ride, or go back. than you can walk another 20 minutes and take a second boat ride. in the end you have to walk another 30 minutes ( some of it uphill) to reach the bus station for the bus ride back to Hernesko

Most people visit Hrensko on their way to Pravcicka brana, but for me the hike and boat rides through the gorges is the real highlight. The entire gorge is breathtaking, simply stunning. I highly recommend doing the boat trips in both directions as you see more. The guides on the boats are great, although I don't think they speak English. the do the commentary in both Czech and German and each one has their own style and technique. We did the Edmund's Gorge trip 3 times in 2 days with 3 different guides and while they all pointed out the same main highlights, none were exactly the same.

Divoká Soutěska is one of two Gorges of Kamenice river in the national park Bohemian Switzerland. It features a sail on small ferries with a ferryman, some 15 minutes ride through the deepest place of the national park. Along the way you can see the nature of the first zone - most protected park of the national park and an unspoiled nature surrounded by high sandstone walls. It's a totall MUST for all visitors, actually it is more popular than Pravčická Gate, the symbol of the park. Best starting point is village Mezná or go through the first gorge (Edmundova soutěska) from Hřensko and arrive there via a forest trail. Ideal for families, children will love it. Also very romantic for couples.

We hiked to Pravicka Brana first and stopped halfway in Mezni Louka for a beer. From there you follow the blue signs gently downhill through woods towards the river. OK the boats rides are a tad touristy but it all adds to a wonderful experience. I've been hiking for many years and I have to say that this was clealy the best ever. DON'T MISS IT

Hrensko is famous of their Gorges which are partially only accessible by boat. I liked the Wild Gorge more as the river there is more wild and water creates beautiful rapids. And also it is much less crowded. Probably because most of visitors starts their hike in Hrensko and end after Edmund Gorge. In any case I recommend visit both. It is very easy walk and the short boat trips are funny and enjoyable.
When you plan the trip be aware that the last boat departs at 5 resp. 6 p.m. and after that the flooded parts with boat traffic are closed and there is no way to bypass them.

Take the S bahn from Dresden along the beautiful Elbe gorge to Schona, a quick ferry trip across the river and you are in the Czech Republic, no passport control. The village is strung along river Kamnitz (Kamenice) the western end rather despoiled by a street market but there are plenty of places to eat. We did have lunch but I forgot to note its name. Anyway a 3.5 km walk along an increasingly narrow and lovely valley brings you to an artificial lake, how often do you see a dam made of logs these days, and then you take a punt deeper into the forest. The narrative is in Czech and German, but on a hot day it is the peace which is so refreshing. Watch out for the elaborate 'flush' birds and lakeside sculptures. At the far end, the toilets were out of order, you can either walk to Mezni Louka and get a bus back or wait for the next boat. You can only buy single tickets by the way. Back in Hrensko the ferry does not seem to co ordinate with the train, allow plenty of time. A day out with a difference.

Elsewhere I have written about the disappointment of the Natural Arch/Bridge nearby. This did not disappoint. Luckily this part of the area was not destroyed by the forest fire in summer 2022. We walked into Mezna from Mezni Louka and down into the gorge in glorious summer weather. Even though it was early June it was very quiet and we only saw two or three other people. The gorge is very spectacular and the track is well maintained. We could have taken the boat further up the gorge but decided not to. It is quite a strenuous climb back but not too bad if you take it steadily.
Note that the gorge on the downstream side (Edmundova Souteska) is currently closed - probably because of fire damage.

We started our journey from Hotel Mezni Louka, we arrived at the first boat after about 30 min walking, we arrived at 10.40 and there was nobody in the ticket station which supposed to be open at 10. there were a couple with two little kids who waited for 30 minutes before us, after waiting 10 min the boat guy came and we started the first trip at 11
Extremelly beautiful nature and you can see some fishes swimming in the clear water, unfortunatelly the story telling from the boat guy was a bit over and improvisated. After 10 min boat trip, we continued walking for 25 min to the other boat trip, the second boat trip was a bit longer and many interesting things to see, at the end we have to walk about 30 min till the main street.
Very nice experience, worth to do!

One of the highlights of my trip. Fresh forest air, babbling brookes, greenery everywhere, moss laden rocks, small tunnels, a boat ride through the gorge. It was truly amazing and a must do. My friend and I hiked for about 2-3 hours through the forest to reach the Gorge. TIP: In the summer season, the last boat out of the Gorge leaves at 6pm. Dont miss it or you may get stuck in the middle of the forest.

What is the best parking spot to start the hike / Where is the starting point?
Written August 2, 2023
The starting point is in the village of Mezna (turn right in Mezny Louka, at the top of the hill coming up from Hrensko). The start is clearly signposted in the middle of the village - you will see the path leading down into the gorge.
There is probably some sort of parking nearby. We were staying at a hotel in Mezny Louka so left our car there and walked. Parking can be a bit tricky in such places in CZ.

Hoi, het is perfect met een hond te doen. Je moet wel een muilkorf voorzien als je ze mee op de boot wilt nemen.

I will be in Bad Schandua in the summer with a group and am thinking about a day out to hike through the gorges. If we walk from Hrensko, through BOTH gorges, loop round to Mezni Louka then down through Mezna and follow the gorge back to Hrensko. Is that doable ? How many boat ridea does that involve and how long would it take ?
Thank You
Written January 23, 2016
Hi,
If you reach Mezni Louka, The best way to return to Hrensko is by bus. An extra trip possible is to walk through Pravcicka brana. If you go back through the gorge, it is a double

Hello! I want to come for 1 day from Prague to hike in Pravčická brana and Wild Gorge. Does that make sense? I want to travel by public transportation. I understand I need to arrive to Hrensko?
thank you

I think it is possible, as long as you start early, and you are in good shape
