Museum is in the one of the oldest house in Cesky Krumlov with oldest fresco from the 14th century. Puppets are situated into fairy tales or into old stories. For example white lady from castle of Cesky Krumlov, medieval village, fairytale devils, fairies, princess ... In the museum is also a small theatre, where you can play.

We had some time to kill in town and decided to check this little museum out. It's really more someone's private collection of puppets than a museum per se, but an interesting way to spend some time. Warning, LOTS of steep steps. Quite a variety of puppets of all sizes. Very inexpensive.

I had heard and read that Cesky Krumlov is well known to the art of puppets, so I attempted to visit this museum. I found it hard to find this historical house, and they are not always open or have long hours. Unfortunately, when we got there , they had closed early. Better luck , next time!

Odd combination, puppets and wine, but who am I to argue? Museum was ok I guess if you’re into puppets... not my thing but an interesting building, something to kill the time with kids, my 4 year old wasn’t into it, I scared her with my puppet show but my husband thought it was a hoot! The wine cellar was good though seemed a bit bare, still we bought a bottle. The man behind the counter was knowledgeable on the wine, which was nice, and our experience with the staff was very positive / friendly, which is all you can ask for really.

It was a magical experience, a return to our childhood. You could feel the innocence coming back! There is a room where you can play with the puppets, and 2 floors of expo. Beautifully made, a tradition of over 500 years of Czech folklore for all. Buy a puppet as an unique souvenir. Take as many pictures as you like and have the pleasure of a very friendly welcome of the staff.

I tried three times to go to the Marionette Museum on the other side of the river. Their hours did not match the website nor their sign and then once they said they closed in a half hour so denied entrance. That's ok, because this place was fantastic. For a nominal fee it was two floors of the most amazing marionettes of every variety. There is no signage (that's the open mind part) but just enjoy the intense creativity of the puppets and innovative sets for display. For kids, there is a stage and puppets to play with. I would go back in a heartbeat. The owner was a really nice man who also told us some stories about ghosts haunting the place. The gift shop is a bonus.

For me its must see. I we been in Cesky krumlov before, but i missed it. Really nice puppets museum, not huge, but with heart.

We were in Czesky Krumlov for a day and I would say that this museum is a must see. It’s really simple and great fun! (Definitely haunted 😜). There is a wine cellar which is reasonably priced to boot,

We visited in mid-December and while there were quite a few people enjoying Cesky Krumlov, very few went upstairs in this museum to see the puppets when we visited. We had the museum almost to ourselves which allowed us to take many pictures and take our time admiring the craftsmanship of the puppets. This diversion is worth the price of admission. And the wine cellar downstairs is a great bonus! We purchased a couple that were both very good and prices were more than satisfactory.
