Being transported down the Vltava River by an expert boatman, who also gave a very interesting commentary in English on the history of the lovely Unesco town, we gained a unique perspective of the centre of Cesky Krumlov and even went down two rapids effortlessly. A worthwhile experience in a mode of travel dating back to the Middle Ages, when logs were transported long distances in this way. The rafts are replicas of the original wooden rafts. Malecek company is efficiently managed, umbrellas were provided in case of rain, each passenger got a cushion to sit on and a life-jacket was mandatory. Highly recommended!

We booked the 3/4 hour two down the river and it was an amazing (and very calming) experience. Beautiful scenery and really getting immersed in the local area. The rafting team was super friendly and helpful and made this one of our best holiday experiences so far.

We had a great day drifting down the Vltava into Ceske Krumlov. We arrived a little early at the office and were given a quick safety talk in English. After killing some time in the town, we were driven up stream. We were given life jackets, oars and a waterproof bag. The river is great, albeit rather busy in high season! There's an opportunity to stop at various restaurants on the way or even floating bars, if that floats your boat. Recommended.

On my way from the bus station to the city centre, I came across this company which was providing Canoeing for different distances, at a range of costs. The one thing that striked me was that it was pretty cheap compared to the expensive activities at Prague. I decided to do the within city Canoeing for 9 euros. And found a company to canoe with as I was travelling solo.

And it was definitely once in a lifetime experience. Vltava river treads an 'S' shaped curve through the castle village of krumlov at a calm speed. It contains short Rapids to give you a tiny thrills. The serene beauty of krumlov comes alive as you canoe through the river.

This experience does not need any prior training, so as a first timer, I loved it. It needs another partner though, as they have only a two person canoes to ride.

I have been on the rafts twice now and both trips were great. The first time was the longer trip from Krumlov to Zlata koruna.. bring snacks and something to drink as there are not as many places to stop once you get outside of the city but there are still a few places where you can get cheap beer and sausage on the side of the river.
The second trip was the shorter 2 hour version from Vetrni down to Krumlov and I enjoyed this one more than the longer boat ride. More to see and many places to pull off and enjoy the scenery and food. We stopped off at one place where we went rock climbing and had a swim before continuing on.
When you get to the end of the ride you are at the Eggenberg brewery and they just happen to have the cheapest beer in town.. a great way to finish the day.

As a middle-age, somewhat sedentary couple, we weren't sure we could complete the 4-hour rafting tour. Not only did we complete it, but this was the highlight of our visit to Český Krumlov!

First, I should say that my husband made this trip by canoe many years ago. He's a tall guy with a high center of gravity, and he was convinced that a raft would be a better option for us with less likelihood of tipping over. A 2-person raft turned out to be the perfect choice for us.

After checking in and receiving information about the 6 weirs we would have to navigate, we were driven by a friendly guide to Pískárně. Our driver/guide helped us put the raft in the water and showed us how to use the dry bag to keep our personal belongings dry. This bag was far bigger than we needed, but it did what it was supposed to do.

Although the Czech Republic has experienced a drought through the summer of 2018, there was still enough water and current in the Vltava River that we could rest our paddles often and coast downstream. I found myself wishing we had a Go-Pro to capture the moments! The scenery was beautiful. We even had iridescent green dragonflies hitching a ride with us!

From Pískárně we had quite a distance to go before we saw the first weir. Once we negotiated the first one, we couldn't wait for the next, and the rest seemed to be spaced apart fairly evenly.

Coming into Český Krumlov the raft and canoe traffic tends to get a little heavier, so sometimes you have to wait your turn to traverse the next weir, and sometimes you have to be patient while people ahead of you get their raft/canoe straightened out. Once we completed our trip, another Malecek employee was at the rivers edge to help us pull our raft out of the water.

If there was a down side to any of this--and it's really minor--it's that we didn't know how to get back to our hotel from the end point of our journey, and the employee who helped us out of the water couldn't give us directions to Široká street or any of the bridges that led back across the river.

I suggest wearing water shoes with a padded sole instead of flip-flops for this adventure, especially if you have to do a lot of walking afterwards. Český Krumlov is quite hilly, after all, and paved with cobblestones.

If you want photos of your trip, take a waterproof camera because you will get wet even if you don't tip over. Also, if you stop along the riverbank for a Cola, the vendor may serve it to you in a cup instead of a bottle and will charge a deposit for the cup. Just return the cup when you're finished to get your deposit back.

If we lived in Český Krumlov, we would take the Malecek Rafting excursion about once a week in the summer, that's how much we enjoyed it!

we are definitely not good at this, but we wanted to try as it seemed a lot of fun - you can see the many rafters easing down the Vltaha River as it meanders around the Old Town area of Cesky Krumlov. we were told that this was one of the activities we need to do while in CK so we jumped in feet first, so to speak. turns out, it was just a fantastic afternoon of leisurely and sometimes aimlessly floating down the river. the learning curve proved to be not too steep and after an hour or so we started to get the hang of it. we were banging into rocks and the shore and getting turned around on a regular basis at first, but that diminished as time when on. we thought we were the only ones with this problem, but the next day we were walking on a bridge and saw a few others with the same fate. anyway, long story short, it was a perfect way to spend an afternoon. and when it got too hot, you just stop the raft along the way and jump into the very shallow waters to cool off. no deeper than 3' at any time. why only 4 stars? because the people provided us scant information on the stopping point. we knew we had to traverse down 3 "weirs" (these chutes that prevent us from going over a small cliff) and we knew the building to look for. but as we went down the 3rd weir we entered some rough and fast water and seeing all of these people stopped, figured it must be our stop too. figured we could look for the building afterwards. so here we are flying down the river and I'm in the water desperately trying to keep the raft from floating downstream. turns out that this wasn't our stop and we needed to go about another 1/4 mile. if we had been told this we could have enjoyed that final speedy portion a lot more. doesn't seem like too much to ask - simply tell us, "okay, after the 3rd chute it will be about another 400-500 meters before you see the take out point." and we told them to pick us up at 6pm and they did not arrive until nearly 20 minutes later. here we are in a foreign country where the phone doesn't work unless I want to spend $10 for one short call (would do this in an absolute emergency, but not yet in this situation). luckily I found a nice young man who called for me and told us they were on their way. lots of rafting companies in town, so if I were to do this again, I'd go with another company strictly because of the poor communications. but I gave them 4 stars because everything else was perfect.

Dear al g, thank you for your review. We do care about customer's feedback. However, we stand by providing our clients with all instructions. Before the trip begins, we show the clients pictures of the ending point and clearly tell them where they are suppose to stop. We are very sorry for this misunderstanding. Nevertheless, we do appologise for the delay. Kindly, Malecek Rafting

The whole rafting thing was really fun, and the leisurely paddle down the river was real nice. However, I think the orientation part could've been done more properly. We were given 2 paddles, an inflatable canoe, and they sent us off. If I had not asked about the rapids, I really don't know if they would've given some instructions. Anyway, we got caught in one of the rapids, and our boat went over. We were thrown overboard of course, and my camera was ruined. Also, my cellphone is currently still lying under the river somewhere. And we were drenched and freezing cold the rest of the journey. Maybe the funnest part was meant for us to go overboard? I don't regret doing this; it was really cool and fun, but still I think they should've warned us or at least told us what to expect, because then I would've put my camera and phone in the waterproof bag. And strapped all the stuff on me.

Dear Joy W, thank you very much for your review! We are really sorry for your troubles. The Vltava river is classified as WW I (light flows with occasional rapids). On the recption we always mention all the important points of the journey and provide paddles, life-jackets, waterproof bags and also a small map (where the rapids are marked). The inflatable raft is suitable up to WW II. Each rapid is clearly marked, there is a big arrow which shows the direction where you are suppose to go. Once again, we are sorry for the problems and the broken things. Regards, Malecek Rafting & Canoe

Our guide booked this company for us and it was all seamless. They were expecting us when we arrived, kitted us out and showed us where to go to get the kayak. This is just at the side of the building down some steps. We opted for the 3-4 hour trip and it was amazing as there was just us on the river. There are three weirs to go down but you have an explanation before you start as to how to approach them. You are told where to stop to get collected and have the option of ringing them if you finish early. There is a bar and restaurant there so you can have refreshments whilst you wait. Excellent trip.

My friend and I spent a week in Prague and visited another small town before making our way to Cesky Krumlov (CK). CK was our favorite place of all. And this canoe trip was our favorite thing in CK. We were there in July and it felt like the height of tourist season. So to me, this canoe trip was the quietest and most natural thing we did. I liked the quite on the water. I liked the views to CK attractions above. And the two small rapids you went through were a lot of fun. We were concerned the water would be freezing and we would get really wet. Neither of these things happened. It was just lovely. You do have to pay in cash - no credit cards are accepted - but that's the norm for many businesses and eateries in CK. You can rent boats for 30 minutes, an hour, two hours, or more. You can rent all kinds of sizes. We made a reservation for a canoe trip at 4 earlier that morning. Once we paid, we were instructed to walk down some steps to the water, where our boat would be brought to us by an employee. We had a water-proof sack to store purses and other belongings in. And our 30-minute trip actually ended up being closer to an hour - we took our time - and we didn't have to pay more. I could've gone on this more than once and would have had we had the time. I would highly recommend this for young, old, families, couples, everyone. Don't visit CK without doing this!
