It was absolutely one of my best adventures ever. Unusual, exciting, well organised, informative yet a bit creepy.
It’s a must see venue/activity here, very well recommended for everyone and for this price it’s a bargain.

Great adventure! We really enjoyed this. We prebooked our tickets. There are options to get this visitation in foreign languages. It was really great organised, you get your dress, boots, helmit and light and get in the deep of the mine by mining train and then you walk with the leader out and get many information about mining graphite. It was really interested and we enjoyed it a lot!

The visit of Graphite Mine was a very unusual experience. The closes you get, the helmet and the lantern made were very exciting.
You get to the mine in some kind of train, absolutely in the dark - what a luck you have a lantern. The tour is lasting about hour and a half.
Our problem was that we took the tour in Czech (because our children don't understand English in any case), and we got an explanation in Russian, thus the guide was silent all the way, and only told us "Now read chapter 2", and so on.
Still it was very interesting, the children were excited - very positive experience.

We were provided with old ripped overalls with broken zips, boots and miners hats complete with lamp, then taken 1Km on a little train down underground to a derelict and dilapidated mine shaft where we shown such exciting exhibits as a ventilation fan and some rusting old wagons, as well as the drills used for setting explosives. The guide only spoke in Czech and the English sheet that we were given could barely be read with the only light coming from your hat. We learnt nothing about how the graphite was extracted or what it was used for, in fact nothing at all of interest.

Not bad but not exceptional experience. Might be little scary if you do not know what to expect. The guide should inform the visions openly before the tour starts.

between the glory of the 16-17th sentury history and the newly preserved restaurants, hotels & shops, we can forget that there was a time, just 20 years ago, when life in Cesky Krumlov was harsh, dull, gray and not pleasant at all. one of the only places that give you a look at real life in communist czechoslovakia is this mine.
the tour takes about 2 hours (underground experience is about an hour). first you get in a room were you get the equipment you need: boots, rubber overall, socks, helmet and tourch. a short explanation and in to the tunnels.
the noisy train ride into the darknes of the tunnels the guide takes you into a world of hard labour and miserable existence. what was daily life for so many people in those days.
tours are in czech. if you come with group it is posible to arrange in english & german. if not you can get a leaflet in major languages that follow the stations in the tour (we use this. its cleare and informative)
you dont need any spacial equipment. you will be given everything.
the tour is suitable for childrens.no wheelchair access

We visited the mine because it was rainy monday - the castle was closed. They give you coveralls, wellingtons, hard hat and a lantern. You ride on a very noisy train and you basicly see nothing because the only source of light inside the mine is your small lantern. Then you follow the tracks in the darkness - there is water on the tracks and the floor is uneven - could be difficult for small children or the elderly. There are about 5 stops where they show you the ventilator, instruments used for mining, ventilation shaft and trolleys. Almost all these places are not illuminated, people with an eye condition will probably see nothing. I've seen many mines and this one is definitely not worth the time or the money.

V porovnání s ostatními doly nic moc - ztráta času a peněz.

I visited the mine with my 2 children on a rainy day. The dress up with trenchcoats, gummiboots, helmet and lighting (provided by the organisation) was already fun for the kids. The ride on the little miningtrain was litteraly custom made for children. The tour inside the mine was interesting for children and adults. The only critisism I have is the knowledge of other languages by the guide. The Czech explanation were each time several minutes and sentences long while the german explanation was barely a sentence or 2 long. Somethings must have been lost in translation.

As our planned rafting trip wasn't available, we wound up doing an unplanned visit to a graphite mine right outside Cesky Krumlov. Definitely an interesting experience. After putting on miner's boots, overalls, helmuts, and light packs, we rode on this tiny train about a mile or so into a graphite mine. The mine is no longer a working mine, but we did get an interesting tour on how graphite was mined, and the conditions the miners worked in.

Definitely worth a visit if you have the time.

The graphite mine tour took about an hour. They did not have english tour daily. You will be given gears before entering the mine. If you don't have time, graphite mine can be skipped.
