Nice trip, with the cable car up and a nice walk down.
At the top you can climb a lookout tower (additional payment). There is a restaurant. The view is limited due to the tall trees.
Several people walked down directly under the cable car. There are several (more enjoyable) walks downhill.
Admission was around 400 kroner for 2 adults and 2 children, debit card payment was possible.
Parking fee was also a number of crowns, which had to be paid in cash. Payment in euros (1 or 2 euros) was possible provided no change was required

We started in central Cesky Krumlov and walked uphill to the train station. From there it’s a moderately uphill climb on an asphalt road to the trailhead at the end of the road. Fairly straightforward to follow the green/white markings. At the top you have obstructed views so you have to pay to go up the tower for the best views. About 6 miles to the top. We decided to continue on to Holubov from Klet. Follow the rough trail that goes under the chairlift until you reach an asphalt trail that takes you down into the valley. Continue until you arrive at Holubov and work your way to the train station. There are close by cafes to kill time as you wait for the train. Eventually, board train for trip back to Cesky Krumlov. A perfect day trip!

If you are looking for a hike rewarding you with a nice view over the area you should go there. Don't miss to go up the tower once you have reached the top.
You should find a parking lot here: 48°50'18.9"N, 14°18'23.8"E
From there it is around 5km with an elevation of roundabout 400m. Signs are in place.

My boyfriend and I visited Klet mountain on a beautiful cool morning. I had done plenty of research so had an idea of what to expect but found that some websites lacked specifics.
We visited Klet whilst staying in Cesky Krumlov. Our day started at 7:00 with the idea that we would grab breakfast somewhere on our way to the station, think again, nothing opens until at least 8:00 if not 9:00!
We made our way up to the train station Vlakové Nádraží for an 8:55 train to Holubov. Make sure you check the train times the night before as trains were only running once every two hours! You can search the timetable via the Jizdnirady website. The cost for 2 return tickets to Holubov was 81czk so about €3. Holubov is about 5 stations away, it took about 15 minutes from CK station.
Once we arrived at Holubov we walked through the Krasetin village. The trail begins on the street to the left of the station when facing the mountain. From there you follow the little horizontal white and green stripes painted on poles and trees which takes you through fields and along the main road until you reach a carpark. Keep walking straight the the carpark and you will see a little building. This is the building where you can hire bikes or jump on a cable chair up the mountain. We had already decided to hike up the mountain and catch the chair back down. Walking from the station to this point took about 30 minutes at a brisk pace.
There are a few ways to complete the hike to the observatory; you can keep following the green and white markings through the forest or you can simply walk up directly under the cable chairs, we chose the latter as my partner and I have a tendency to get lost easily!
The hike directly under the chairs is 2km but can get quite steep at times. It is not a simple path but a mish-mash of rocks and grass and pine needles. It is pretty uneven and I wouldn't recommend attempting it if you have weak ankles or knees. There are 20 red poles that hold up the cable chairs so you can have a rough idea how far along you are. We walked up at a pretty decent pace, only stopping once or twice for a sip of water. It is beautiful in the forest and the trees provide excellent protection from the sun. It took us about 40 minutes to reach the observatory.
At the top is a restaurant that serves cold drinks and traditional Czech food. We had a delicious homemade lemonade but didn't eat anything as it was quite early and we didn't feel like meat or soup! After our drink we wandered around to the observatory which costs 20czk for adults and 10czk for children. The views from the top were spectacular and definitely made the hike worth it. We had an amazing feeling of achievement knowing we had put in a decent effort to get up there!
After taking a few happy snaps we headed around to the cable chairs building. The chairs run every half an hour but they don't stop until everyone in line has gotten on. We paid 50czk each for the trip back down. The chairs are classic European cable chairs, hardly anything is holding you in! But it is a gentle pace and very smooth so we never felt unsafe. The chair ride took about 20 minutes to get back down to the bottom which you can spend taking photos and admiring the views and the stillness of the forest. It was nice to relax as we were mainly focused on not tripping over on the way up!
At the bottom you just follow the same route back to the station, there are still the green and white markings on the route back to follow. When we arrived back at Holubov station there was no one working as it was lunchtime but we managed to decipher the timetable and luckily only had 30 minutes to wait until the next train. Again, they were only running once every 2 hours!
All up, the trip took us about 4 hours from getting on the train in CK to arriving back at the station. I would recommend going quite early as it wasn't busy at all - we only passed another couple and a solo hiker - but coming back down on the chair there were families galore. Also, the carpark was totally full when we were leaving compared to being basically empty when we arrived (not sure how much parking costed).
We loved Klet Mountain and would highly recommend it to anyone who has a spare morning in Cesky Krumlov or any other surrounding town!

Not enough is written about this hike, in my opinion. It is about 8km from the city center. If you are on the 'island' that is the town centrum, take the North-Eastern bridge to make your way to the 'trailhead'.This bridge will take you past the wine bar, creperie, a Coop and the Red Gate towards the Castle.
Keep following the road and eventually you will start to see White-Green-White horizontally painted flags/symbols on light posts, trees, fences, etc. This hike can really be done by anybody, and in any weather. The first 4.5 km are on a paved road, you can actually drive your car up that far if you want. The last 3.5 km or so is slightly inclined on a mix of dirt and paved road. I imagine this hike doesn't get that muddy, as there is a lot of rock mixed in with the dirt, but if it is raining, tennis shoes might not be the best.
Make sure you go up the observatory at the top, its 10-20 crown, and totally worth it (bring coins). The restaurant was closed when we went up, but the observatory was open, and self-service. I can't say enough about the view, best way to grasp the beauty of the Czech Republic I think. If it is a super clear day, supposedly you can see the Alps.
This hike took us 5 hours and we took an hour lunch break. If you only have one day in Cesky Krumlov, it would be a stretch to recommend over the in-town stuff. If you have two days or more, an absolute must. We spent the past week in Cesky Krumlov, plenty of time to take in a hike.

In the past six months we've hiked three routes that include the Klet summit: (1) From Cesky Krumlov past the train station and uphill through the forest, returning the same way; (2) from Holubov uphill and then down to Cesky Krumlov; and (3) from Zlata Koruna (stopping for the monastery tour) to Divci Kamen (castle ruins) and then continuing along route 2. The latter is the longest and the most interesting, but there are other routes! Make sure you get the right hiking map(s) from the TI in Cesky Krumlov. The best way to get to Holubov or Zlata Koruna from Cesky Krumlov is by local bus, starting from the Spicak bus stop. But make sure you take a bus that goes all the way into the village of Zlata Koruna, not one that stops at Rajov. Other reviewers have described the delights of Klet summit, including grand views from the old observation tower and the opportunity to eat a simple lunch in the restaurant.

we wanted to do a hike while in town and asked the information desk for a good idea. only hike in town is to Klet, so we asked how to get there and were given decent information. simply stated you can go to the train station (ask the info desk for a map that shows the train station - the default map does not show it). we parked our car near the station and started walking up the street. after about a mile you see the sign to Klet (5km) and continue to walk on asphalt. soon you will see these markings on the trees (looks like the german flag except the colors are white/green/white, not black/red/yellow). you cannot get off track - these signs are all over the place on the way up. about a mile of dirt and quite steep in those parts. at the top you can get a beer or cold drink or even something to eat. length of hike from the train station is about 3.5 miles (~6km). you can also continue to drive up another 1.3 miles or so (2km) to reach the parking lot of the hike. I did not realize this beforehand (assumed that it started at the train station). shady most of the way which was nice due to the humidity. definitely well worth it!!

Follow the tips from this page to there.
We didn't drive so we took a train from the Cesky Krumlov train station to Holubov.
After we arrived Holubov, we went left and went uphill until we saw the sign of Krásetín village. We then walked trhough the Krásetín village to take the chairlift. We were the only couples walking all the way uphll to the chairlift. Many of the locals drove. From the train station to the chairlift station, we could hardly find the signs and anyone to be asked for directions. The walk from the train station to the chairlift station took us one hour (As we didn't know the direction, should we know it, it will take one 45 minutes only.)
The chairlift goes every hour, unluckily, we were 10 minutes late and failed to catch the 10am chairlift (because of the train delay, we should have made it!). We waited for an hour in the small building there.
The chairlift ride took us 15 to 20 minutes to the top. I was quite scared at the begining as all chairs are single seats and the time for me to get seated was short. However, the chairlift is saved, I can ensure you, so no worries. The ride was long and windy.
After arriving the top, we went to the view tower and enjoyed the view of Southern Bohemia, The view is awesome that one must not miss.
P.S. The return train runs every 2 hours, so be well-planned for the time.

Klet is a viewpoint with a TV mast close to the town of Cesky Krumlov. To get to the top you can either take a chair lift or climb up, although the trail leading directly under the chair lift is not as maintained as you might like, which on the other hand gives it its charm.
The top of the view point has a Planetarium and a restaurant, and in a good weather it is nice to just chill on the rocks and have a picknic.

We were lucky to be taken to Klet on a private tour otherwise we might never have known about it. The Blansky Forest is great for hiking, unfortunately we did not have time for that so took the chair lift. It is a wonderful 22 minute ride but beware it does not run all the time so you have to check that out. Be sure to go up the watch tour for the views otherwise the trees obliterate the best parts. There is a small extra charge for that, but certainly worth it.

I'm planning to take a taxi or Uber to Holubuv from Cesky Krumlov then walk the rest of the way to the cable cars. Are there signs directing which way to the trail? I've been reading conflicting information on exactly what days the cable cars and restaurant is open and what days the buses run back to Cesky Krumlov. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated!

How do I get to the hiking trail (to hike up Klet') from Prague on public transportation?
Thank you.
Written February 16, 2017
From Prague, it is about 2.5 hours to Cesky Krumlov--a great town to visit! Best way to travel there is by Student Agency bus, reserve in advance. It only costs about $10 each way, very comfortable. And much more direct than taking the train! Make sure you know where to meet the bus in Prague. I'd suggest an overnight in Cesky Krumlov to enjoy the town, and so you can stop for a trail map at the TI located in the main square, but if you can't: Tell Student Agency (in advance) that you want to be let off at the Spicak bus stop (NOT at the "main station"). Walk from there uphill in the direction of the train station--but don't turn right toward the station. Instead, continue left angling uphill.

hi, i would like to know where is the exact place to get the cable chair towards the coffee house and back again to starting point. any helpful tips will be much appreciated.
Written August 7, 2016
Hi Etienne,
there is a bus going directly to the chair lift, however only on Saturdays/Sundays. The bus number is 330813 and it goes from Cesky Krumlov railway station (starting point of the bus) at:
10.21
12.21
14.21
The journey takes 30 minutes (it is the 3rd stop from the railway station).
To go back to Cesky Krumlov, from the bottom station of the lift you would take the same bus, one of these times:
10.55
12.55
16.11 (last one)
In case you dont want to be dependent on the buses, you can still hike up easily from the city center (the trail starts close to the castle) and you can do it up and down in 4 hours (please see my review of the place here on trip advisor web).
Hope it helps. Let me know in case you need more info. :)
