You have to visit this place when you have the chance. It’s lovely experience, you can walk through the whole house by yourself just with an audio guide. We paid a little extra money and enjoyed being actually photographed in the historic atelier and in the costumes. Definitely recommend that too. Big thank you to the people there, especially the young guy at the counter. He was really sweet and professional!

We had a lot of fun in this amazing photo studio getting our family pictures done in a unique way. The period costumes were provided by the talented staff, picked and chosen with an experienced eye for detail and overall color harmony and we had a choice of a wide variety of period appropriate accessories as well. We were not rushed, plenty of time was allowed for preparation, arrangement of different groupings, and for disrobing. We were allowed to browse through the entire house including the attic and enjoy the museum like surroundings. Toilets are located outside in the garden, and the garden itself provides a beautiful backdrop for additional photos. There is a coffee shop next-door that sells refreshments and delicious cakes. The photos were delivered electronically within two weeks and were amazing!

Unique photo studio from the first half of 20th century, everything perfectly restored, including the art nouveau building. I'm really not a photography fan, but it was really interesting and worth to see even for me. It's located right next to the city center across the river and accessible only on tour, which is every hour and lasts about 45 minutes. Reccomended.

I would never have imagined that a visit to an old photography studio could be so interesting and illuminating. The Seidel photography studio (and home) has been meticulously preserved, and the audio guide provided excellent explanations and context. Highly recommended! And don't forget to visit the lovely garden in the back.

This museum looked interesting, but we were very impressed with it. It gives a pictorial view of life from the late 19th Century to the communist era. The house and gardens are as they were and it was fascinating to see the photographic equipment, Siedel was ahead of his time in equipping his house for electricity even though power was not yet available. An audio tour is part of the admission price and this added immeasurably to the experience.

We actually only visited on a whim since it was included in the Český Krumlov card we bought at the Castle. However we were very glad we did as the museum is brilliant.
It is interesting both in terms of the technology of photography but also the personal stories of the people who lived and worked there. The audioguide was informative and fun.

We were so glad to discover, by chance, the Seidel Photographic Museum. Josef and son Frantisek creatively recorded all facets of Bohemian Life in and around Cesky Krumlov - known then as "Bohemian Krumau", an outpost of the mostly German speaking Austro-Hungarian Empire, later in Czechoslovakia. As you move from photo-developing labs through to the magnificent photographic Atelier with its original backdrops in diffuse sunlight, illustrated by multiple images covering all aspects of life and personalities in Southern Bohemia, you marvel at the Seidel family's achievement in creating an internationally recognised centre of expertise in the art of photography - mostly black-white post-card size images, later with early colour-print technology.
As you witness this living testament to creative genius, you are struck by the tragic and senseless removal in 1948 of the whole archive of negatives built up over 70 years by father and son - and then depressed to learn that most of these priceless images remain buried in Czech State Archives to this very day.
However, the Cesky Krumlov Development Fund deserves our thanks for restoring the Seidel family home and workshops to their former glory - and for celebrating the lives and fascinating contributions of two of Southern Bohemia's most distinguished artists.

A very important photographer (a lot of his pictures can be seen in the actual exhibition in the old synagogue) with an outstanding work; who, as a part of the german speaking comunity in south bohemia had a very difficult life after the second world war. perfect overwiew in photographs over more than 100 years of history in south Bohemia

We visited the Museum Seidel on 3 Sept. 2018. The well maintained property built in 1905 on the site of the original building is an unusual time travel experience to a 1880’s photographer’s studio and home. The rooms contain period furniture, numerous original items of office, laboratory, camera and studio equipment as well as displays of studio, landscape and special study photographs. You may have old family photos of your stiff, frowning ancestors in some make believe setting. It struck me that I was being provided the opportunity to see the type of studio setting they may have experienced. The cameras and photo lab equipment may be of particular interest to enthusiasts.

My friend and I visited this museum without high expectations. It was a wonderful surprise. You not only learn about photography, you hear some history about the region and you tour a nicely renovated home.
The English audio tour was well done and there was a short but informative video. It is inexpensive and takes about an hour to hour and a half.
