The column is in the town square in Cesky Krumlov. The square is worth a visit. The column is in the square so you might as well have a look at it. Allow maybe 5 minutes if that. If you're into plagues or columns you might push it out to 10 minutes,

Plague Column is a plague commemorating the plague's victims in 1600.
It is a good spot for taking some pictures.

The pillar was erected in 1716 as a reminder of the plague period in 1680 and out of graditude for the end of the last plague pandemic which haunted the Czech Republic two years earlier. The sculpture group was created by the Prague sculptor Matěj Václav Jäckel (1655-1738) and consist of the statue of the Virgin Maria Immaculata, images of Rochus of Montpellier (Saint Roch, also known as Rock or Rocco, specially invoked against the plague, patronage of the saint who recovers from the plague), St. Francisus, St. Sebastian and St. Cajetan of Thiene, and standing at the Cobbles the patron saints of the city: holy Wenceslaus I (Duke of Bohemia), St. Vitus, John the Evangelist and St. Jude Thaddaeus (Jude the Apostle).

This monument should have significant place in this town. But locals treat this place as underwhelming nuisance.

The whole town looks like from old pictures. Very crowded with tourists. This is a middle of the town.

This artistic baroque statue landmarks the Center of the town square, I am glad that we were part of a walking tour where our guide explained its significance. Without this, I would have not appreciated it’s meaning. It represents the meaning of warding off the plague ( Black Death) in 1713.

Just like other European cities Cesky Krumlov was struck by plague in 1680. This epidemic continued for three years and killed many people. When the epidemic ended the town council decided to get a plague column constructed in the town square to thank Virgin Mary and the saints who had protected the town. Thus the column shows Virgin Mary on top of a column and the eight plague protecting saints in two rows below her. These sculptures were crafted by a Prague sculptor called Matej Vaclav Jackal between1714-1716. There used to be a simple stony Rennaissance fountain in the middle of the square. It was in a very bad state so the town council decided to replace it with a new fountain around the Plague Column. So a sculptor from Plešivec was hired to build this new fountain in 1843.

It's a column...in the square. I know it has cultural significance but, quite frankly, stop on your way by, take a picture, and that's about it.

Just sit around, if you can find a spot, and watch all the tours come & go. If you sit for some time you'll see the tourists park their overloaded cars in a 1 hour only spot, ignoring the "P" sign with restrictions, and get the "Denver Boot" applied to their rental car. Or even see the Police ticket a tourist for parking in their Police Only Parking spot while the tourist is still in the car!! The square has a number of cafes, the Info center, and plenty of lost people. Just a spot to rest your feet, and then resume the tour.
