The Town Hall is easily identified by the Renaissance arcades. It is located in the Town Center, it is also the location of the tourist information bureau. Beside it , you find the Ceski police station, the torture museum. We took a walking tour where we met in front of the town Hall, our guide explained to us all of it’s history. The facade has several painted coats of arms representing the various rulers ( Families like the Eggenbergs and the Schwarzenbergs). There used to be a bell on it’s right side of the building, it used to be used to ring and call upon the councillors for meetings. You also find numerous restaurants and shops surrounding it.

Two old houses were connected together and given a new face to form the Town Hall in 1597. The building's front face has four coat of arms painted on it. The left one is that of the Eggenbergs, the right one is of the Schwarzenbergs, the ones bellow these are those of the Kingdom of Bohemia and town of Cesky Krumlov. Outside the building on one corner you can see a bell. This was the councillor's bell, which used to be rung whenever they were called to meet to resolve an issue. A time came when people started ringing the bell whenever there was a petty tussle so the councillors got sick of it and got the rope chopped so that no one could ring the bell. These days the cellars of the building house the Museum of Torture. This building is the pride of the town square.

If you decide to get married in Cesky Krumlov as we did, you will find the person in charge of the Registry Office a charming and helpful lady who organises all the paperwork and the Deputy Mayor an efficient and delightful person who conducts the ceremony with both warmth and gravitas. Two musicians played piano and violin. The rooms where the ceremony is conducted are tastefully restored.

Below these rooms is a museum of torture instruments - not a place to visit at this time. The Police are in adjoining rooms and we found them most helpful with directions.

I have traveled quite a bit and Cesky Krumlov may be the most beautiful town I have ever seen. Some of the small Czech towns have beautiful main squares, but the whold Old Town of Cesky Krumlov is breathtaking. I would plan at spending at least 2 full days there.

The town itself is very pretty but you have to accept it is a tourist trap visited my many coach parties. However the square upon which this modern building sits is not one of the best parts of the town. The building itself is not of major interest.

The Town hall is in the middle of the old town with a lot of activity happening around the town hall. During my visit the Christmas market was there with many interesting shops all brightly illuminated. The town hall also has a police station, the Torture museum and at a little distance is the Wax museum. Opposite to the Town hall is the plague pillar. the entire area is very lively and one should spent at least half an hour sitting there and enjoy the local flavor of the old town.

On this site originally stood different houses, including one which belonged to the Abbot of Zlatá Koruna monastery, another one served as the oldest seat of the municipal administration. Second half 16th century the houses were gradually United with the portal and facade and courtwing. In 1796 the high neoclassical style received a Rococo adaptation, later it underwent a series of utilitarian individual adjustments, aspecially the arcade. In 1924 reconstruction of the original historical facade appearance. At the beginning of WW II the courtwing with butchery disappears and was replaced by offices. The last reconstruction took place in 1997 and assured the exposed section (particular Atticus + external plasters).
