- Mei CSydney, Australia23 contributionsEarly in the morningRead so many reviews and blogs and we decided to arrive late at 5pm, stayed overnight, explored the town from 7.45am when light appeared. it was so good at night and early in the morning, quiet when you need a rest, even at the night the town is cute and empty, you get to see the beautiful town. From 10am you start to see the town 50% full with tourist groups, every half an hour increased by 20%, the town was full of groups by 11.30am. We strolled the town over and over, it is very small. However, each time we passed the same street, it felt different due to the number of tourists and finally we lost interest of the town because of the crowds. The cute bridge doesnt look like bridge any more, you only see people, nothing but people. But we are glad we visited it with good strategy, we loved this town when it‘s quiet!!Visited December 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten January 17, 2020
- cjdotheworldSmithfield, Virginia1,366 contributionsThis is a Beautiful Must-see PlaceDescending from the gorgeous castle, you don't expect to find such a magnificent village. You should have given the birds eye view of old town from the castle ramparts. There are beautiful narrow winding streets, the river running through parts of the city in a nearly semicircular sense. A total must see. Worth the trip to get here from whereever you are.Visited August 2019Written May 27, 2020
- Anne S11 contributionsBeautiful small town with so much to see and do!This idyllic town is stunning in its beauty and fascinating with its rich history. Rafting the river is a wonderful break from touring. The people were very friendly and welcoming. A folk singer entertained a large dancing crowd with Czech songs and guitar. Delightful!Visited August 2022Written September 6, 2022

Given the Covid 19 situation this year, there are only individual local tourists and families in the streets, all large international groups are missing, making it the ideal time to enjoy the absolute beauty of the historical houses. Some stores are closed, but there are plenty that are opened, and almost all restaurants are waiting for their guests to come and enjoy their wonderful food.Visited September 2020Written September 21, 2020

Took a little work to find the parking outside the city center, but WOW. So picturesque! - Mary RPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania777 contributionsEnchanting Cesky KrumlovWe were so happy to be able to visit Cesky Krumlov on our recent trip to Europe. This pretty little historic town is just wonderful for exploring! It is fantastic that so much of the original architecture has been preserved. Walking up and down the cobblestone streets, although challenging, is very fun. Everyone calls this a "fairytale" village. The views from the upper part of the castle are quite spectacular. The town is encircled by the river, and all the little red roofs really stand out. We looked at the outside of the castle, but sadly did not have the time to enter and tour. There are also lovely gardens nearby. There are now three bears in the moat, and we watched the bear keeper feed them. They seem to have very high standards for their care. We ate an excellent lunch in a lovely and charming restaurant, and spent some time shopping and strolling. The town is famous for gingerbread cookies and garnet jewelry. Most of the stores in this old section seem dedicated to tourists. Cesky Krumlov is certainly a very special place to visit. Highly recommended!Visited April 2023Written April 8, 2023
- Brittany_11_10Los Angeles, California1,707 contributionsPicturesqueCesky Krumlov is quaint, charming, and historic. A towering castle, a lazy river wending around the city, a beautiful church, charming cafes and restaurants...what's not to like? I imagine in the high season (i.e., summer), it's probably quite busy (and maybe less than ideal), but in the low season (November), it's wonderful! Sure you'll have to bundle up, and maybe wear a rain jacket, but there are plenty of cafes and restos to pop into for something hot, and you'll have the castle and other sites/sights mostly to yourself.Visited November 2021Written November 29, 2021

This is a beautiful little town. Perfect especially for a romantic night or two. I saw it on a travel video one week before my trip and altered my itinerary to stay there one night. It turned out to be a trip highlight. I recommend Hotel Dvorak there also and have dinner with them on the riverside.

The historic town is indisputably beautiful worth a minimum of one day visit. The restaurants and services somehow average down my rating to 4*. However, what is most outstanding is the bus/coach station, throughout my round Europe trip. The station is beautiful clean and conveniently located, with everything you need as a tourist including outdoor WiFi. The little grocery story has the some of the best common snacks I have ever come across - will go back just for this!

This city has Italian vibes. Beautiful buildings, lots of restaurants and bars. You should definitely walk alongside the Vltava. Looking at all the people in canoes and rafters is awesome. We were there in the Corona year so it wasn’t that touristic. Don’t know if that was different in other summers.

Can anyone suggest parking/ parking garage in the center?
JeanineB
Raleigh, NC19 contributions
There is no parking in the center. There are two pay parking lots on the outskirts. In order to take your car to the center of town you have to purchase a permit and it is only good for 30 minutes. Just enough time to unload or load your car.

Tell me honestly - do you think CK is suitable for two 75-year-old ladies who like comfort, good food, beautiful scenery, buildings of historic interest etc. We rather like hotels with plenty of stars also.

Hello Celia. It is absolutely beautiful but the cobblestone streets are a bit daunting.
The food was great and so affordable. As we came in for only one day on our Viking cruise I'm not sure how you would navigate if you were staying for a period of days. The castle is up a steep grade but otherwise it is just the cobblestone streets. Skip the marionette museum it's up three flights of very steep stairs and sad that it is so underutilized.
Otherwise enjoy the fairytale town!

Hii BCbike,
I know that Cesky Krumlov is an interesting town. I would have a full 1 day walking around in the city, do you think that is enough?? Or should I take 2 full days visit all the places??
Thank You very much for your advise,
SAM

I was there a couple of years ago, absolutely loved it! It's like something out of a fairytale book. To answer your question, I'd probably set aside 2 days - That way you can truly take in everything without rushing.
There are lots of little shops and beautiful eating places that are too good to miss. Not to mention the wonderful tourist attractions mentioned in the other posts. But also, it's just it's just beautful to go for leisurely walks (esp along the river), and just soak up the atmosphere at your leisure - Yep, 2 days ;) Have a wonderful trip!

Planning on spending 2 nights in Cesky Krumlov before heading to Prague. What is the best way to get from CK to Prague, bus or train?
danyblq
Modiin, Israel120 contributions
Hi Dave,
Sorry for late answer - hope it's not too late... Probably the best way is to take a bus from Cesky Krumlov to Ceske Budejovice (each hour, about 30 minutes ride), and then change to train to Prague. The bus station in CK is noticeable closer to city center than the train; in CB bus station is just next to train.
If you'll choose a train only option - it could take more time, and you will have to change at CB.
On the other hand, train ride from CK to CB could be funny - usually, these are short trains of 2 or even 1 car.
Enjoy your trip!

Where to park at CK?

Greetings, greetings, just came back from Cesky Krumlov (when i see CK its reminds me of Calvin Klein) lol lol lol - there are 2 1/2 parking places for tourist outside the old town, walking distance
One is huge just at the main road, it is right next to the Wall where the castle is located, this one is recommended because there is always a spot
The second one is near the entrance to the old town, if you don't have reservation at any Hotels inside the old town don't drive in there, you need a permit and the police is always looking for for tourist that did not see the sign at the entrance
This 2. parking space is on a 2 -one way street - one street goes into town and the other follows a one way street back to the main road - on that street that are lots of bed and breakfast, there all have their own parking spot, so no parking for you but somewhere in the middle is a public parking space i guess for 5 cars only (that's why the 1/2)
Just on that 1/2 parking space you need coins to pre pay your parking, the others you can pay later with coins or bill (only Czech Crown)
That's it, i hope i could help a little, if yes give me a dumps up for others travelers to see - drive save - buckle up and enjoz the ride

I will be on a river cruise and will be able to visit either Cesky Krumlov or Salzburg but not both. Does anyone who has seen both have a recommendation as to which to choose?
Marcos T
Nicosia, Cyprus188 contributions
Salzburg is much bigger and would require some sort of logistics planning. CK is small, no need for taxis, buses etc, just use your feet. Salzburg is way more expensive, if that is a consideration for you. Both are very picturesque but I feel Saltsburg needs more than a day to visit properly.
I would vote for CK.
