Beeston Castle is on the way from Manchester to Chester, just a short diversion off the A51. Property of English Heritage, free to members and a small charge to visitors. Approaching from the east it sits high on a hill opposite another high castle and...More

Fortunately we chose a dry day, so the climb to the top was not too difficult. Once there, the views all around were really memorable.

I’ve always been a bit dismissive of English heritage but thought I would give them a chance today. I had an amazing day out. There was a steep climb up to the castle which even with me and my crutch was a struggle. Because it...More

This castle is one of my favourites. The views are spectacular. 360 degrees of beautiful countryside. It’s a steep walk up. Well worth veering left at the first ramparts and continuing up that way. Go first thing in the day and you’ll have it to...More

Pleasant, steady uphill walk to the high point of the castle. Magnificent views in all directions, giving a real appreciation of the value of the castle in times gone by. Our friend with us was a visiting American and so Beeston Castle was a great...More

Must be - it’s too dear! Now, first things first about this castle - I used to love coming here, great views, lovely spot, landmark close to my heart, and watching the peregrines that used to nest among the cliffs was awesome! Then at some...More

The ruins are breathtakingly beautiful, the views are just as nice. Very manageable walk for all ages. Dogs are allowed as long as they’re kept on a lead.

Great day out. A bit of a climb to the castle ruins. There were seats at points on the way up if the climb was too much. The only let down was the cafe. Otherwise a good day out. Take a picnic to sit and...More

Very disappointed. English Heritage members, or would not have been happy to pay £8.80 each to go in. View is fantastic. Very little of the castle remains. It really is a short stroll up the hill and a look at the view. No sign into...More

It's not far, but it is steep. I would say allow between 30 mins and an hour-ish to get up, and you'll be able to take a really gentle, steady pace, have chance to admire all the views, and the youngsters will be able to... More

My 6 and 8 year old struggled. If you take it slowly it should be possible. Be careful though it is steep and the hill boundary is not fenced which leads to some high drops.

They're only allowed on the site on the leash, so she won't encounter any free range dogs.
