The sculptures are at the end of a gravel road on a lookout. They are better than some I have seen. The view over the town is underwhelming.

Called in to see the sculptures before leaving Kimba after having seen photos of them and read the history of Eyre and his tracker. First thing was they were massive sculptures, far bigger than we were expecting upon arrival. Great views over Kimba from the lookout and well worth the short drive out of town or the few k's walk from the showgrounds.

Great Views of Kimba and Countryside

This site gives you a great view of the silo and how imposing it is in Kimba. The story of Edward John Eyre and his Aboriginal companion is told on storyboards.

Effective

This memorial is found at the top of Whites Hill Lookout in Kimba. There are two large figures, Edward John Eyre and an Aboriginal man, created in rusted scrap metal, but very effective. Eyre travelled from Adelaide to Albany across the head of the Bight, with help of various Aboriginals. There are a couple of small natural caves nearby.

One can imagine looking over the landscape like the sculptures are doing and surveying the land, a great tribute to an explorer.

Interesting sculptures at the town lookout

The metal sculptures of Edward John Eyre and his indigenous tracker Whylie are located at the Whites Knob Lookout.

They are a tribute to Eyre and the Aboriginal men he relied upon during his travels. The views over Kimba make this lookout worth a visit.

Well worth the drive or walk up to the top of Whites Knob Hill to view the sculptures and the view over the district & Kimba. The history boards give a good insight & description of the 3 attempts that Eyre & finally with Wiley as they completed the crossing in a terrific feat of exploration & triumph over adversity !

A hike worth the reward
Feb 2019 • Couples
Spent a leisurely 1-2 hours walking the trail that leads to these stunning sculptures of Eyre and his Indigenous companion. If possible i recommend waking early and heading up at 10am, or skip the walk altogether and drive to see the sculptures instead!

The Edward John Eyre Sculptures is situated at Whites Knob Lookout.
They are made out of metal and are a tribute to Eyre and the Aboriginal men and their skills he relied on for survival.
It is a lovely walk through natural bushland on the Roora Reserve Nature trail to get there and enjoy the 360 degree views of the town and surrounding landscape.
