A Vancouver Island must
Jun 2021
If you are into hiking, biking, and relaxing, this place is for you and your crew. The resort just opened, and it was the perfect spot to explore and relax. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a fun family vacay.

Snowshoe Fondue
Jan 2021 • Friends
Mount Washington is an incredibly beautiful spot. We were there recently to do the Snowshoe Fondue. The snowshoeing is AMAZING! Tons of great clearly marked trails to wander with breathtaking scenery. Bring some birdseed to feed the Whiskey Jacks! And snowshoeing is so much easier than one might think so don’t even hesitate to try it.
Now the fondue - do not waste your time and money unfortunately. The food was okay, but the service was horrible and inefficient. The slowest I have ever had in my life and honestly that ruined it. I’ve heard from a few people that they felt the same about the service in previous years so I’m not sure why this problem has never been rectified. The male server acted like he could care less about being there. Cook in your condo instead or eat at the main lodge.
But definitely go for the snowshoeing!!

Cross Country Skiing Under-Groomed and Over-Priced
Jan 2021
Mt. Washington gives second-rate service to their cross country area. They don't consistently groom the available runs - today, January 6th, being a good example with only half the runs groomed (a few can't be groomed until waterways freeze but this doesn't explain several of the non-groomed runs). And today they are offering discounts because of limited runs groomed. This might satisfy someone buying a ticket, but many people own season's passes and there's no discount for us if that happens. Furthermore, cross country season's pass holders have to ski several times more than downhill skiers to 'break even' on the cost of the pass. It is a rip-off and I'd recommend NOT buying a season's pass until it is evident that Mt. Washington has improved its cross country service and pricing. This Covid year they are raking in HUGE crowds and profits. They can afford to do better grooming and make fees more fair.

I never leave reviews but i wish someone had mentioned this.
Drove up to Mt Washington to ride the bike park. Paid the $220 + to get a bike for the day. No paper maps available, chain guard broken, dropper stuck down, shifting impossible due to the bent hanger and headset loose. The bikes are covered in mud/dust. I asked for a different bike and the kid running the rental shop said it was the best one they had.
Headed out and dropped chain twice. Got to top of chair lift to discover I had flatted during the lift up.
Took lift down and asked for a refund. Waiting 30mins for a refund while staff argued about refund process.

Basically, the whole place is ran by teenagers. No mechanics or adults to be found anywhere.

Liftys were nice. Gave me a lift back to the main lot.

The zip lines zip, fabulous
Sep 2020 • Couples
We went to Eagle’s Flight Ziptour on Mount Washington and it certainly did not disappoint. The weather and scenery was fabulous and the zip lines were a delight. You can control your own speed however if you want speed you have it here. Staff were great and safety conscious, one line over 2300 ft and 2 lines with more than 400ft elevation change. Easy walk form line to line. Felt comfortable the entire time, thank you staff, Sara and Rico, for a great time.

Eagle's Flight Ziptour - Mt. Washington Alpine Resort
Aug 2020
Took flight with the new Eagle's Flight Ziptour at Mt. Washington Alpine Resort. I have been on hundreds of zipline adventures all over the world and always appreciate how the sport/attraction continues to evolve.

The new harness / zipping mechanism used at Eagle's Flight is really new.. it is similar to the trolly system used at Whistler's Super Fly Zipline except this has a new device which allows the rider to control the speed by slowing down your decent.

For people who may not be familiar with this technology and English not their strong language may find the safety briefing a bit hard to understand. The braking system is a bit counter-intuitive in that you need to push UP to slow down. If one panics usually the response is to pull DOWN which will only make the descent faster... but then the secondary back up of slamming into the springs at the end will stop you so not a big deal. But it can be a bit scary for the novice. Something to be mindful of.

Overall the experience was amazing. The lead guide was great, the assistant guide still a bit green when it comes to dealing with customers that are stressed and scared.

Views are great and the first real line is a doozy... for those that are intimidated by heights. I loved it.

Zip line Adventure for the Whole Family
Aug 2020 • Family
Our experienced zip line guides Rowan and Monica were wonderful! They ensured everyone felt safe which was important because the first of 4 zip lines was a little scary for a first timer like myself. My 11 year old children loved it along with my mother. A great family experience for the entire family. The zip lines are close to each other so there is very little walking so not to worry if you have bad knees.
Great fun and can hardly wait to do it again 😊

Great potential; bad management; Nordic nightmare
Feb 2020
With incomparable views and the only Nordic site on Vancouver Island, Mt Washington offers so very much. However, the new owners/management have no experience maintaining cross country ski trails. Yes, snow conditions can sometimes be challenging, but while every other resort can deal with this, Mt Washington cannot - nor does it show any desire to do so. This place calls itself a resort and charges resort prices, yet you will absolutely not find resort quality here. Save your cash and your sanity and go elsewhere!

Great First Time Experience
Feb 2020 • Family
Was lucky enough to be a chaperone on son’s school class to go to this highly recommended venue and was I not disappointed. The trails were magnificently groomed and very well run, especially the instructors who helped with the kids. The weather was warm and the vistas along the way were amazingly beautiful. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.

Quite poorly operated/managed ski resort
Feb 2020
This resort is going downhill, some pun intended. There are many things going wrong:
1. Sat Feb 8th, great snow conditions but only the Hawk chair for the learners and intermediate was open. The main chairs of Eagle and Sunrise closed. Weekend crowd overwhelmed this chair and left a majority of the resort inaccessible until late in the day. An hour wait to get on the chair. Same thing Sunday the 9th. Boomerang did open at the top of Hawk but mostly for black/double black and little room at the top to maneuver.Totally unacceptable.
2. Parking on the weekend is inadequate for both Nordic and Alpine.
3. Nordic trails are not well maintained. In addition, there is no signnage to direct snow shoers away from the Nordic trails resulting in even worse Nordic conditions developing. Nordic prices here are some of the highest in Canada and no where near Silver Star in quality of experience.
4. The tube park is expensive and a ticket is only for one hour. At times they oversell a time slot so the line ups are so large people get only 2 rides in when they should be getting 5 to 6. Very frustrating when this happens. In addition, there is no imagination so there are 4 straight runs, 3 open, but no banked/curved track that would be an added thrill for those big enough and with helmuts.
5. Although this is a winter sport resort and the bread and butter revenue is skiing, they installed an expensive zip line from Eagle to Boomerang to Hawk to Alpine Lodge. Not many would take this as it is only for an older crowd, not kids and is expensive. Why would they not put this money into the core chair lifts of Eagle and Sunrise? Shows decision makers clearly out of touch with their customers.
6. There is no real groceries to be had here. Make sure you bring all the food you will require. Big White, Sun Peaks, Silver Star etc all have decent grocery stores but not here.
1. If you are looking for a ski vacation here, especially family, then only go during the week.
2. If you can, then ski during the week and leave the weekend alone. You'll get parking, few line ups and get your money's worth even if the main chairs are down.
3. Make sure you bring all the groceries you will require or it is 35 minutes to Courtenay and 35 minutes back.
