This resort is going downhill, some pun intended. There are many things going wrong:
1. Sat Feb 8th, great snow conditions but only the Hawk chair for the learners and intermediate was open. The main chairs of Eagle and Sunrise closed. Weekend crowd overwhelmed this chair and left a majority of the resort inaccessible until late in the day. An hour wait to get on the chair. Same thing Sunday the 9th. Boomerang did open at the top of Hawk but mostly for black/double black and little room at the top to maneuver.Totally unacceptable.
2. Parking on the weekend is inadequate for both Nordic and Alpine.
3. Nordic trails are not well maintained. In addition, there is no signnage to direct snow shoers away from the Nordic trails resulting in even worse Nordic conditions developing. Nordic prices here are some of the highest in Canada and no where near Silver Star in quality of experience.
4. The tube park is expensive and a ticket is only for one hour. At times they oversell a time slot so the line ups are so large people get only 2 rides in when they should be getting 5 to 6. Very frustrating when this happens. In addition, there is no imagination so there are 4 straight runs, 3 open, but no banked/curved track that would be an added thrill for those big enough and with helmuts.
5. Although this is a winter sport resort and the bread and butter revenue is skiing, they installed an expensive zip line from Eagle to Boomerang to Hawk to Alpine Lodge. Not many would take this as it is only for an older crowd, not kids and is expensive. Why would they not put this money into the core chair lifts of Eagle and Sunrise? Shows decision makers clearly out of touch with their customers.
6. There is no real groceries to be had here. Make sure you bring all the food you will require. Big White, Sun Peaks, Silver Star etc all have decent grocery stores but not here.
Tips:
1. If you are looking for a ski vacation here, especially family, then only go during the week.
2. If you can, then ski during the week and leave the weekend alone. You'll get parking, few line ups and get your money's worth even if the main chairs are down.
3. Make sure you bring all the groceries you will require or it is 35 minutes to Courtenay and 35 minutes back.

Just to start off I would like to say I don’t normally write negative reviews, but the service I experienced here was way below acceptable it my opinion.
We picked up our rental gear from the lodge the day before which is really nice so you don’t have to worry about it in the morning. When we got to the lodge we were redirected to multiple different people as nobody was able to process our tickets that we had purchased online. Ended up having to fill out all our rental forms by hand. Not a big deal but there was much confusion and you could tell that many of the workers didn’t know what they were doing. We then went to pick up our rental jackets and pants. The condition of them were so poor they should be embarrassed to rent out this gear. My jacket leaked and my pants were so ripped that they had literally tried to staple the rips together. Don’t waste your time with renting this stuff, not worth spending the day soaking wet like I did. Next day we get to the chair lift in the morning and my brother in-law realized that they sized his skis wrong for his boots. It was super busy in the morning but half an hour later we were back to the lift. Then we realized my dads skis were also sized wrong so back to the ski shop again. After that we get to the top of the lift and then I realized that one of my bindings was missing the strap, now I am unable to board down the mountain. I talked to the lift operator and if took him half an hour to get ahold of the workers at the bottom of the lift to finally send me back down the mountain. By the time i get everything fixed half my day was already over. Very shortly after this one of the binding on my nephews snowboard came loose....
I’m not sure how much training the people working at the rental shop have but it seems very unorganized and not a lot of care is going into setting up the equipment and maintaining it. Next time I go snowboarding I will consider renting my gear off the mountain. Lift tickets and rentals are not cheap and for $200 for the day I expect to get more then 3 hours to enjoy the mountain. Other then all the issues with our gear and the very unorganized rental shop, we received good customer service at the restaurants and coffee shop. Lift attendants were also very helpful.

Stayed 2 nights with 3 kids in one of the mountain condos. Acommadations were fine lots of wear and tear minimal ammenities but you are staying in someone's condo not a hotel.
Disorganized day care had a fire in day care area first day (small thankfully) took over an hour to relocate to a new room. Lost 2 hours skiing time due to slow intake and the fire on the first day.
Second day waited another hour to book child into day care. Completely disorganized and the hill was next to empty the staff are just incompetent. Day care was prebooked and pre paid the actual intake was a mess as we got directed to 2 separate locations to book child in.
Runs are ok nothing world class lift lines are short so you get many subpar runs in during midweek.
Bottom line locals are stuck on the island and dont have a choice I would not travel here for a ski vacation BC has so many more well run mountains.

The 4 zipline tour was over 3 hours for less than 5 minutes of ziplining. We had a group of 9 (max 10) and at every line the guides have to set up and take down each individual trolley. You also have to carry your own 20 lb trolley in a backpack which was pretty heavy when you are standing around for so long - worse in the summer heat. I would not recommend taking kids since they also have to carry their own trolley. You also have to control the trolley's acceleration and braking and I found it hard to see the slow down points and the guides at the landing points. My friend's trolley got stuck on the 2nd line and she said it felt really slow on the first line. They ended up switching it out for the last 2 lines, but it sort of ruined the experience.

I've gone ziplining a few times before at Adrenaline and Wildplay which were great so I didnt know that carry your own trolley ziplining was even a thing. It is in the FAQ section on the webpage, so I should have done some more research before going. I definitely will in the future.

Our group was likely even slower than normal. Groups started ever hour and the group behind us caught up on the 2nd line where 2 people got stuck. It would be better if instead of taking on separate groups, they station a guide at the top and bottom of each line and have people continue to the next line once they finish rather than waiting around for the group. It would be even better if they kept the trolleys at the lines rather than requiring people to carry their own.

I have been Nordic skiing at Mt. Washington for many years (because it is the only place on Vancouver Island with maintained trails) and I have skied at many other cross country areas in BC and elsewhere. While in a beautiful setting with much potential, I am sorry to say that I do not recommend it because this resort has the distinction of having the worst Nordic trail grooming I have ever seen. Sometimes it is so poor that parts of the trails are downright treacherous. Huge gouges in the middle of the trail, ninety degree turns at the bottom of downhills, classic tracks that disappear and reappear or squiggle back and forth. Many complaints have been lodged to no avail. It is clear the Nordic area, at least since new ownership has taken over, is an afterthought. I have Nordic ski friends across the country and I cannot recommend they visit here to ski. It’s too embarrassing, really. If you are not from the Island and want to Nordic ski, go to Silver Star/Sovereign Lake near Vernon.

The trolleys that are used are heavy (20#, you carry them on your back between runs) and you spend so much time watching for landmarks to indicate slowing down and hand signals to stop that you can't enjoy the ride. The trolleys are also slow to attach and remove for each run, which makes the excursion very long. Being unattached from the line onto a small plastic stool is not very secure. I have enjoyed zip lining many times before and this was the worst. I cannot recommend the run. However, the guides were very nice!

With incomparable views and the only Nordic site on Vancouver Island, Mt Washington offers so very much. However, the new owners/management have no experience maintaining cross country ski trails. Yes, snow conditions can sometimes be challenging, but while every other resort can deal with this, Mt Washington cannot - nor does it show any desire to do so. This place calls itself a resort and charges resort prices, yet you will absolutely not find resort quality here. Save your cash and your sanity and go elsewhere!

Spent three days at mt Washington; stayed at the deer lodge. Skiing was good but the bar/restaurant closed at 5 pm. Not much to do but stay in your room. You can book the hottub for only a half hour per day and if you live on the slope side, the snowcat groomer starts coming by your window every ten minutes all night. And when they come down the slopes their bright lights shine thru the window. No sleep for three nights. Never doing that again. However, all the staff everywhere were great

Why are classic cross country skiers charged the same rates as skate skiers? Many days only skate skiing is groomed, with no tracks set for classic skiers.

Some reasons given by the alpine resort for not grooming are not acceptable, such as "our track setter is broken" - This same excuse has been used periodically for at least the past 3 winters.

This mountain needs to deliver equal opportunities for classic and skate, or reduce the classic prices. Other BC cross country areas haven't got this constant grooming problem. Why Mt. Washington?

I never leave reviews but i wish someone had mentioned this.
Drove up to Mt Washington to ride the bike park. Paid the $220 + to get a bike for the day. No paper maps available, chain guard broken, dropper stuck down, shifting impossible due to the bent hanger and headset loose. The bikes are covered in mud/dust. I asked for a different bike and the kid running the rental shop said it was the best one they had.
Headed out and dropped chain twice. Got to top of chair lift to discover I had flatted during the lift up.
Took lift down and asked for a refund. Waiting 30mins for a refund while staff argued about refund process.

Basically, the whole place is ran by teenagers. No mechanics or adults to be found anywhere.

Liftys were nice. Gave me a lift back to the main lot.
