Only a few minutes away from the city that joined its destiny to the king of the dehesa, at RESERVATURO RONDA, in the edge of a Biosphere Reserve, we can enjoy observing within a short distance all the stages of the fighting bull breeding and selection: the breeding stock cows escorted by the powerful stallion -the chosen one, the herald of the essence of the breed-; the calves born that year, running about together overlooked by their mothers, dreaming of a long life in the country; the young bulls insolents, boastful of their thoroughbred; and finally, the bull, the result of centuries of men's passion for creating the most beautiful creature, midway between its nobility and its fighting spirit. We enjoyed the tour around the ranch, learning about the raising and selection of the bulls both male and female,
After the tour we had a tour of the small museum and met the owner who is also an accomplished Bullfighter. This is a rather unusual combination. He was very warm and charming, posed for photos and chatted. We then went to another room where we had wine and tapas a very generous serving of both.

I have long dreamed of riding horses in Spain, and my boyfriend and I were fortunate enough to happen across the Reservatauro Ronda shortly before departing for our two-week excursion to Andalucia. Our helpful host at Hotel Fuente de la Higuera reserved a one-hour horseback ride for us, which we were delighted to realize would be just the two of us along with our gracious guide, Rafael, himself a professional bullfighter. I have very mixed feeling about bullfighting itself but seeing these animals raised under oak trees and free reign of lush pasture land has given me a different perspective. I rode a wonderful horse called Mundo who not only kept me safe while a herd of toros bravos came running straight toward us, but took me on a lovely canter through a poppy-strewn meadow. I have a lifetime of riding experience and my boyfriend is a beginner and we both had well-suited mounts and personalized activity - we could do as much as we were comfortable with. Our guide told us how the bulls and horses are raised, and I even picked up some new Spanish words. We rode through open meadows with mares and newborn foals grazing in the orchard shade and along winding paths that bordered the different bull paddocks. It was absolutely our favorite day in Spain, and I cannot recommend the Reservatauro highly enough. If you are not interested in riding horses they also offer other sorts of tours, but I feel that horseback was the truest way to experience the Ronda countryside.

An extremely clean and well kept farm where we were able to see many bulls and beautiful thoroughbred horses. We started walking which was a wonderful way to be close to the animals in their beautiful natural setting. Unfortunately it began to rain heavily and we finished the tour by bus. Once inside we saw a demonstration of bull fighting techniques and had a chance to handle the capes that are used. We learned about the training process for the matador ( 5 hours a day with extremely heavy capes). We also learned about the horses used by the picadors. In another building we saw models of famous bull fighting rings constructed of cork. Rafael the bullfighter was charming and informative. He showed a side to bullfighting culture in Spain that we had never thought existed..one of love and compassion. While I still would not feel comfortable seeing a bull killed in the ring with the crowd cheering, I was glad to see the care given to the breeding and care of these magnificent creatures while living here. As part of a tour group of 14 we were served an excellent lunch of traditional food. We enjoyed every moment of this tour

Paging through the day tours offered our our resort, we came across a tour that included a farm that raises Fighting Bulls (El Toro Bravo) near Ronda, Spain. With a quick internet search we discovered the Reservatauro Ronda, at http://www.reservatauro.com. Currently the website is only in Spanish, but the they speak English so just call.

With one day advance, we arranged a private tour of the property easily on our own for EUR25 per person. This was much more affordable and much more personable than the packaged bus tour. Also, the road to Ronda in a bus would be more like riding a roller-coaster for 90 minutes.

The farm is amazing. Opened just last year, it is owned and operated by a professional bull-fighter. They have a practice/viewing ring and all of the facilities to maintain and care for the bulls. A jeep tour with the guide and another staff (who is also a bull-fighter) was absolutely fabulous. The acreage is vast and literally covered with Spanish Oak trees. The bulls all live on the open farm areas, segregated by age and gender (for obvious reasons).

There are also Andalusian Horses on the property that are being bread and raised. Absolutely beautiful.

My family loved this tour, possibly the highlight of our time in Spain. Only 10 minutes outside of Ronda (another must see town if you are in the region), it was about a 75 minute drive from Marbella.

This is one attraction that might not be so good for pre-teens even though the animals are great. There are several layers of experiences and education to be had at this beautiful farm, the husbandry is one area. The bull breeding program and bull fighting philosophy is another. You'll have a knowledgeable, pleasant guide. The setting is very pretty and the immaculate farm is a model of a well thought out enterprise. The horse and bull pastures are luxurious. I especially liked the idea that native oak trees were retained to shade the bulls in summer and to allow them to eat rich acorns in the winter - so many of the natives are being lost to big commercial agriculture. The farm grows it's own grains to feed its livestock. It was interesting to hear about the years of free range living given to the young bulls. I have always believed the "sport" of bull fighting was not a good thing. I may not have changed my opinion entirely, I certainly understand it in greater depth than I ever did before. Seeing this operation made me ask a fundamental question. Wasn't the life of a Spanish fighting bull far superior to that of a meat steer in many places?

I've visited Reservatauro twice - I love this place, it is such a great experience.

My first visit was just after it opened in May 2014 and my husband and I had a private tour - we both found it fascinating and seeing the toro bravo in it's natural inhabitat is really quite amazing - also understanding the corrida from the point of view of a matador was very interesting. We were lucky enough to have spent time with Rafael Tejada and had the opportunity to watch him exercising the bulls on his horse - it was an experience I shall never forget. I have been interested in the bullfight for a long time, but my husband didn't know very much and he was mesmerised. We returned in May 2018 with my parents and our two year old and again I booked a private tour, I couldn't believe how much more developed the site was - a clear example of it's success. We had the drinks and cheese and meats at the end and really enjoyed our visit - even my very reluctant father, who couldn't understand why we would want to visit a farm on holiday, admitted he had really enjoyed himself.

For those that are not fans of the bullfight, please don't be put off - seeing the amazing bulls and how well they are looked after, along with the wonderful Andalucian horses is the basis of this visit, not to mention the wonderful land.

I was also impressed to learn that Rafael Tejada had spent a lot of time searching for a bull that was pardoned during one of his corridas - he eventually tracked him down and bought him so he could live the rest of he's days in luxury on his farm. We will most certainly visit a third time when we are next in Ronda.

I fall into the “No Thank You” group when it comes to bull fighting. Our trip to the breeding farm was well worth it.

Rafael has taken the time time to nurture his heard of bulls, cows and horses. The physical site is just beautiful. I noticed some outdoor picnic tables. Also, the chapel and a few other buildings are (April 2018) under construction.

Regardless of your opinion on bull fighting, I think you will enjoy this trip.

This was a HIGHLIGHT of our trip to Ronda, mostly because it was so unexpected. The tour was so educational - it was amazing to finally get a tiny glimpse into why bull fighting is so important in this culture. The animals are beautiful and highly respected and this tour was really interesting. It inspired us to do more research.

We loved this place. Cost is 25 Euros pp. See fighting Bulls and Andalucian Horses in their natural environments. Learn about how the Bulls are raised, prepared and tested. Several opportunities to see them up close. Amazingly powerful and beautiful animals. We also loved the horses running around the ring set to Spanish music. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.

We went there in mid June. We absolutely love it. Not that we are big fan of bull fighting, however, the tour gave us a glimpse of the other side of the chain which we find very interesting. Apart from learning a few new things, we love the animals, in particular, some of the horses, Rocky, and Pimiento!
