- Stefanie HLincoln, Nebraska1,745 contributionsVery niceThis is an obvious five star attraction, because it's amazing! You can stand on either side of the bridge or below and get great views no matter where you are. The bridge lights up at night, which is equally amazing. Worth the detour up into the hills to see Ronda, for sure!Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 20, 2024
- MaytèVicenza, Italy318 contributionsIconic bridgeRonda is famous above all for this monumental stone bridge that arches over a gorge about one hundred meters deep, called El Tajo. The town develops around the iconic bridge that separates the old town, i.e. La Ciudad, from the more recent neighborhood of El Mercadillo. Some of the typical white houses are built right on the precipice. The Ponte Nuevo can also be crossed by car, paying attention to the hundreds of passers-by who crowd to observe the overhang.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 21, 2024
- PascalB41000La Chaussee-Saint-Victor, France360 contributionscrowd, go furtherLots of people to take the photo, but it sucks, it's better to go further into the gardens or below, to get THE photo. Otherwise, it's a nice walk among the crowds of visitors. there is a survivor of the bridge, do not do it, time and money wasted. for parking don't hesitate to stay 800 m away there are plenty of small parking lotsVisited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 18, 2024
- permia67,094 contributionsWhat an engineering achievementWhat an achievement it was to span the 120 metre deep El Tajo de Ronda. But it was accomplished in 1793 with the opening of this engineering marvel. Views of the bridge both at street level but particularly after descending into the ravine are phenomenal.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 20, 2024
- andycoldhamCrawley, United Kingdom1,049 contributionsAwesomeIf you visit Ronda, the icon site to visit is the new bridge which is the subject of so many famous photos. Its a must see sight and makes for some awesome photos. The bridge can be seen from either side. From above and below. Sadly I did not have time to make the long round trip to see the bridge from the bottom of the valley., but we were able to walk fown to the lower platform and museum, entrance on the right side of the bridge. However please note you can only pay by credit card to access this area and I had to ask a German tourist to add my bill to his card and give him cash as I had left my credit cards in my hotel. The current charge is €2.50 pp.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 17, 2024
- ReisevogelLangenhagen, Germany1,664 contributionsGreat place, lots of touristsRonda, a cute mountain village with this great bridge. The village is full of tourists, which is what it is designed for. We are one of them... But the fact that there are different entrances for the great spots on the bridge, which cost money (€2.50 - €5 per person) is crazy. The bridge is still worth it, despite all the crowds. There are also enough free platforms and spots with great views. Tip: We parked in a parking lot in Poeta Rilke and were able to walk along the cliff towards the bridge.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 20, 2024
- MVALERIA NLisbon, Portugal1,808 contributionsUnmissableBeautiful. I really wanted to go to Ronda. It's just a shame that we stayed 2 days. It's small, you can see everything even on a trip like returning from Malaga or Seville. Feel bad. Like no. I don't like to enjoy places. Every little piece of this very old city, what besides the help of men in making monuments. He had God's help. It's very beautiful. The place is beautiful. It's not as small as I thought. Several places to eat. Coffees. A special placeVisited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 21, 2024
- machinmadYaxley, United Kingdom2,676 contributionsClassic view, but it has to be done ...The classic tourist attraction. Try to get pics from both sides of the the bridge. We also walked down the well-maintained path to shoot some pics upward. Also, stop to listen to the various buskers who play guitar on either side of the top of the bridge.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 22, 2024

To take the best pictures of the bridge you have to go to the Jardines de Cuenca (Check-out from the old bridge). Must-see.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 24, 2024
- Baggio1018London, United Kingdom383 contributionsA must see in RondaDefinitely the must-see sight in Ronda. The photo in the listing is from the viewpoint below, whilst this bridge can easily be accessed from Ronda town centre by foot. When on the bridge, take in the view from both sides and perhaps find a restaurant with a table available on their balcony. Note that when we visited in July, the side of the bridge facing north was swarming with bugs in the evening.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 3, 2024

It is best to park in the "Plaza Del Socorro" car park under the square of the same name for a small fee. From there you walk through nice streets directly to the bridge with hundreds of other tourists and can enjoy a phenomenal view and take beautiful photos. From the bridge you can look 100 m deep into the "Al Tajo de Ronda" gorge. A gorge running right through the city was created by a tectonic fault. On the other side of the bridge at the "Mirador de los Viajeros" square there is a picture made of colorful tiles that shows Ronda without the bridge. A tour of Ronda is also worthwhile. In front of the bridge there is a map and a sign with all the sights.

OK so if you are coming by car like we did, direct yourself to Parking Poeta Rilke! 2.40 per hour, 3 euro overnight. Outdoor, generous spaces, Lots of spaces, staffed and will direct you to a space. Has clean toilets!!! and a map of town and the location of the bridge straight down the road! Past the famous Bullring and park. The bridge itself is awe inspiring and breathtaking and if you are up for the challenge entry was a couple of euro ( card only) and you can walk down and get magnicificent photos from below. Not to be missed. Still has cars going across today!

The "Puente Nuevo" is the iconic symbol of Ronda. Built between the mid-1800s and the end of the century, it was for years the highest bridge in the world with a height of almost 100 meters. It connects the two ancient areas of the city over the Tajo Gorge carved by the Guadelevin River. From any puntp you look at it it is simply spectacular, although perhaps the best spot is at sunset from the mirador that is accessed coming down from the Duquesa de Parcent square.

This iconic three-arch bridge is one of Ronda's main attractions and offers stunning views of the Tajo de Ronda, a deep gorge that divides the city.
It is absolutely impressive and we recommend seeing it both up close and from afar at one of the viewpoints in the town such as Mirador “La Hoya del Tajo”.
For us, without a doubt, it is the most spectacular monument in Ronda and the one that makes it most special. It's very impressive the first time you see it and you have many angles to see it from. All of them equally incredible.

Without a doubt, it is the most important and spectacular place in Ronda. It allows you to avoid the famous Tagus, quickly and easily. Located next to the Parador, it offers spectacular views.
You can access its interior, in particular to one of its side windows and to the room that is right in the middle. For this, there is a booth in the corner of the inn, which for a low amount of €2.5, you can go down and stand right at the bottom and access the room in the center, above the main arch.

The bridge itself is beautiful and can be viewed easily, and without paying from many of the walkways nearby. We paid €2.50 each to walk down to the ‘new bridge’ and thought this would take us all the way across. However, there are a few steps down and you walk into a room with one video screen and little information. It’s not worth it to pay to walk a little lower. View the bridge from the road and surrounding roads for free!

Ronda's Puente Nuovo, or New Bridge, is different than its name suggests, already quite old. The name is derived from the fact that at the time of construction, two older bridges already crossed the deep gorge, the Tajo de Ronda. Namely the Puente Romano and the Puente Viejo. They bridge parts of the gap where it is much narrower. The Puente Nuovo was built in the period 1735-1793. Long period, but in 1740 the unfinished new bridge collapsed. Restoration work began in 1751. It was not until around 1778 that the help of the architect who is often mentioned as the bridge's designer, namely José Martin de Aldehuela (1729-1802), was called in. He got the job done, so to speak. The gorge spanned by the Puente Nuovo is over 120 meters deep. The bridge connects the old city of Ronda (La Ciudad) with the Mercadillo district.

Ronda's iconic Puente Nuevo is the newest and longest of the three bridges that connect the two sides of the city over the gorge that divides it in two. Its construction began in 1759 and was completed after 34 years, in 1793. The architect was José Martin de Aldehuela and master craftsman Juan Antonio Díaz Machuca. The length of the three-arched bridge is 66 meters and its height is 98. Above its central arch there is a room that was used as a prison. During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), the room was used as a prison and torture chamber for prisoners. Often, in fact, the torturers killed prisoners by throwing them from the windows onto the rocks of the El Tajo canyon, below the bridge. The room currently hosts an exhibition that chronicles the construction and history of the bridge. It is worth noting that shortly before this bridge, another single-arched bridge was built in 1735, but it was poorly constructed and collapsed in 1741, killing 50 people.

This is probably the reason you came to Ronda and it didn’t disappoint us. Stunning 17th century bridge crossing the gorge and connecting both sides of the town.
Don’t just look at the bridge from the road. We found the best vantage point was to cross the bridge into the old part of town, turn right on the first street across the bridge , and follow the trail down into the gorge.
The trail is a steep climb out but it is worth it to get great pictures of the gorge and there was even a series of waterfalls while we were there. While taking the trail down, continue past the White house that charges admission. The free trail bypasses the place that charges admission and has better views.
Take water as the climb back up is steep and takes your breath away.

The Puente Nuevo is the symbol of the city, built between 1759 and 1793, to connect the old town with the new inhabited part that was developing on the other side of the El Tajo gorge. The bridge has a central arch with two smaller lateral arches, at the top we find cells that were once used as prisons.
Crossing the bridge you can see the view from the Mirador de Aldehuela.

Achei Ronda simplesmente espetacular. Muito linda.

How long of a hike is it to the bottom of the gorge for a picture? Distance, time, elevation would be helpful
Written September 11, 2018
You can go to a point around halfway down the gorge which has good viewpoints of the bridge, as well as access to a path that goes along to the lower sections of the bridge. That took around an hour. To the bottom of the gorge and back would be considerably longer.

My friend and I are planning a trip but she has a fear of heights.
Is the bridge only a footbridge?
Is there another way to go to the old town from the modern town?
Thanks

This is a fine well made structure. She is wide as well. One should have no issues crossing her. There is an awesome view of her from Jardines De Cuenca (terraced gardens) just to the east! Have fun!

I am planning to visit Ronda Puente Nuevo Bridge and the Gorge. I will be travelling from Benalmadena. I see trains available from Malaga but from previous posts most people recommend bus routes...I am having difficulty in England establishing bus timetables as most are in Spanish (obviously). Can anyone recommend best route please? I am an early riser but it will only be a day trip. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Annabelle what everyone has said is true that there is public transport available but I'm not sure it would be worth it for a day. Ronda is very lovely but because of the geographical formation you don't get around quickly. To see everything walking is best but it does take time. We were there for a week and did a lot of the sights day by day. It is about an hours drive from Malaga is renting a car an option for you? as the road inland is not busy. Maybe when you arrive you could book a tour as each day in summer tour buses are huge business but off season I'm not sure. If you make it you will certainly enjoy!
