Nice square in Ronda!
Feb 2020 • Couples
This is a very nice square in beautiful Ronda. There is a statute of Hercules dominating as central point of the square. There are some good restaurants there as well.

Time for a Coffee!
Jan 2020
A beautiful plaza to have a coffee or snack and a rest from walking this wonderful old city. Plenty of cafe and shops.

An interesting square surrounded by good bars and restaurants, the perfect place to chill eat and drink. Some very good camera angles of the church and monument.

Hercules Refreshed
Jul 2019 • Couples
Plaza Socorro is considered to be the modern political centre of Ronda in the new town. It locates the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Socorro, the church with the twin towers to the east, which was constructed in 1956. The building known as the Circulo de Artistas and Casino located at the north end of the Plaza was the place that Blas Infante chose to show the new flag of Andalucia from one of its balconies at the time that Andalucia was seeking to become an autonomous region within Spain.
In front of the Circulo de Artistas is a statue of a figure holding two lions. This represents Hercules with the lions, although the significance of this escapes many people, myself included. An artistic and talented sculptor by the name Nicomedes Diaz Piquero, who passed away a couple of years ago, was responsible for this sculpture and that of Blas Infante, just behind Hercules and the lions, and to the front left of the Circulo de Artistas building.

The fountain, while still retained in the plaza, has been separated from the statues of Hercules and the lions. Now, the plaza is a completely pedestrian area providing the most popular area to meet and eat in Ronda. It offers underground public parking, plus many bars and restaurants with terraces situated around it. Currently, the plaza is being remodelled, most of which has now been completed. The Ayuntamiento has at last decided to introduce some seating within the plaza, along with some plantings to provide some shade (once they are well enough established). Something that will be most welcome by both residents and visitors considering the popularity of this plaza, as will the continuing presence of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Socorro gracing the square.

Thanks for reading this and if you've found it helpful I'd appreciate a ‘thumbs up’ below.

Beautiful Square
Jul 2019 • Couples
Parking in an underground car park and climbing the stairs out to this beautiful square. Statues, fountains and a lovely church with a number of cafes and bars to sit and enjoy the sunshine whilst watching the world go by.

Park below, coffee above...
Jul 2019 • Couples
This is a most attractive square with a host of cafes and eateries. The parking (expensive but convenient) is situated neatly and discreetly below.
From the square you can start your exploration of Ronda with a visit to the bullring, via some touristic shops.

This square sits on top of a parking garage but is also quite close to all the sights in town. Many restaurants and lots and lots of interesting shops in the neighborhood.

A large elegant square with a car park underneath
May 2018 • Couples
We discovered this by accident when we were walking in from a car park further out where we had parked and now know where to park on a future trip to Ronda. The paved elegant paved plaza is a focal point of the more modern part of Ronda and is surrounded by interesting buildings including the Inglesia de Socorro, with statues and a fountain in the centre focussed on Hercules, and bars and restaurants.

Lovely square on the "new" side of Ronda.

You will pass by no doubt on your way to the tourist office or the Puente Nuevo. It is a lovely square quite typical of small Spanish cities.
