I went to see the falls with an Easy Rider. The place is spectacular. To get the best view one must climb some uneven steps, many of them. The steps could be slippery and there were some scary gaps. I have to say, that at 72, I could not have done it by myself. Several times I needed the helping hand of my guide for security. Young people.have no issues. Children need to be supervised. The reward of seeing this massive cascade and the smaller ones near it is worth all efforts. I am so glad I did it!

This was an impressive waterfall but at time of our visit Nov2022, it was officially “closed”. Apparently they are undergoing a change in ownership and the place needs major repairs. However you can still visit unofficially (at your own risk of course) if you show up and pay the 50,000 VND entrance. We did this and it was well worth it, but a couple of caveats.
1). The infrastructure is in a state of disrepair so be cautious. For eg, the viewing platform on the Big Buddha side of the falls is severely rusted, and the end of the platform itself is soaked in mud and tall grass. We didn’t trust the safety of it so only went until that part, as you can see huge chunks of rust flakes and the whole structure seemed “bouncy”. We did see people on the far side viewing platforms and those looked good from afar, so try those.
2). The trail down is treacherous. The metal handrails identify the trail and are good/solid, but they are imbedded in rocks that you are essentially scrambling down/up so you need good shoes.
3). You will get muddy. If you proceed down to bottom of falls past the viewing platform mentioned above, the trail becomes wet and muddy. There is no way to avoid it getting on your pants, shoes and hands, but the view at the bottom is amazing. I had to walk through the water to get onto a little land further off the banks to get a better view but no big deal as I had on Keens, the ideal shoe for this excursion.
Anyway we totally enjoyed these fabulous falls, and highly recommend with the above mentioned caveats.

The setting is beautiful. The falls are magnificent. But, for me the whole thing is about the hike down and behind the falls. There is a nice path provided to the right of the falls that takes you down. Then it is a fun scramble over slippery wet boulders to get behind the powerful waterfall. There are metal hand railings almost the entire way and a lot of steps either chopped or cemented the make the going easier. But, be careful as it is still very slippery. And by the time you finish you will most certainly be wet from all the fine mist spray created by the waterfall. Just go and enjoy it!

We rented motorbikes to get to Elephant Falls and I think that was more than half of the fun! You can also take a bus here if you’re not comfortable on a scooter. You have to walk down some steep steps and around the waterfalls - there are a few different paths so make sure to take them all. You can get some neat photos here. I would say to visit if you have time and like riding motorbikes, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if you missed it.

The elephant Waterfalls are spectacular no doubt. Sadly like the majority of areas in Vietnam it's diminished by the rubbish litter. Just a little attention to cleaning up would make this a fabulous experience. I continually saw tourists (who should know better) follow the locals lead by dropping rubbish where they stood as if the ground would swallow it up. Not for the faint hearted either, it's a precarious climb down to the bottom where there is a rusted out rail suppusodely for safety assistance that in fact could probably lead to fatalities due to its age and wear. Still, four stars for the waterfall itself, have a go but be careful.

I stopped here during a motorbike day tour around Dalat. As it was during tet holidays (Vietnamese New Year) it was super busy with local tourists. There is a steep climb down to the waterfall which is not easy for small kids or if you are not wearing the right shoes etc. So if it's busy it might take a good while to go down and come up as it gets congested.
Make sure to visit the Pagoda and Lady Bhudda Statue which are right next to it.

We visited during a dry period so the steep climb over rocks to the viewpoint at the base of the falls was not slippery like I'd read in some reviews. The falls were thundering away even then so I can only imagine the sight after the rainy season. You can also view the falls from a side window of the tall statue at Linh An Pagoda next door if you climb up inside.

Visited as part of the three waterfall tour. Beautiful and majestic. Not much walking required. Cannot go near the water or swim, the water is too powerful but can view from a close by enclosure. The lady buddha statue nearby is beautiful as well.

A place that should be a beautiful calm and cleaned spot of nature, became a place full of litter! The water is smell from polute and green coloured. Shame that the local authorities maintenance is so low quality. Not recommend at all to those who look for a clean spot.

I've been twice and it was still worth it second time! there is a pretty steep way down so if you aren't good with stairs be aware. I saw some people look at the staircase and just turn around. If you aren't impressed by nature I don't think you'll care. There is alot of garbage if you explore behind the falls but I was still in awe of the water pressure and rock formations

Bonne visite :)

Did anyone count how many steps down to waterfall?
And How long you took it?
MelbourneCam
Melbourne316 contributions
We didn’t count the steps.
If your query relates to fitness etc my advice is to be reasonably agile as they are a hotch potch ofsteps and also very uneven. Definitely need to wear shoes with a good grip and non slip.
People walking up and down on narrow path without any order.
Having said all that the experience was great.
How much is the motor bike rental per day in Dalat? Please also provide phone numbers and/or emails of best rental providers and your recommendations. Thanks.

Hi! What route did you take from Dalat city? According to google maps there are two routes with one being longer. Any info would be awesome!

Hi Rick, we hired a motorbike and were able to visit 5 different attraction in the one day, 4 different waterfalls and a temple/Pagoda. We were able to complete a loop with minimal backtracking. From Dalat we headed south to Trúc Lâm temple, there are a few different routes to get there, we rode one of the smaller roads which is west of the main QL20 highway. From the temple we then merged onto the QL20 and headed to the Thac Datanla waterfalls. After that we continued on the QL20 and stopped in at Prenn Waterfalls. From there and again still on the QL20 we went to the Pongour Waterfalls, which were awesome and totally worth the ride! After that we backtracked up the QL20 until just passed the Lien Khuong airport then headed west along QL27, I think you could probably take a more direct route north from Pongour falls but on the day it didn't give me that option. Anyway we traveled on QL27 until we reached road 725 and headed North toward Elephant Waterfalls, they are also spectacular. The turnoff wasn't sign posted well so just keep an eye out and follow your maps. After the Elephant falls we took the 725 all the way back to Dalat. I throughly enjoyed the last part of the ride as you climb back up into the hills as the sun goes down, much more satisfying than taking the QL20. If you have time after the Elephant falls you could also stop in at the Van Thanh flower village as I believe it's on the same route. I had no trouble on any of these roads, the smaller ones were a bit rough, but that's SE Asia. Also make sure you visit Linh Phuoc Pagoda it's the best one I've seen yet and Crazy House, that was cool. Enjoy your trip.

Hello Dalat travelers,
I'm returning from Dalat to HCMC on 27th Dec. and unfortunately able to see only morning or lat evening flight back to HCMC. I'm taking a flight back from HCMC to SIN at 9 PM that day hence wanted to check if someone/small family is interested in sharing a taxi/cab back to HCMC? The price that I was able to see online for rental cars is about USD165 which is quite expensive for one person and not justified when the flights themselves are charged at SGD 43 :)) [ although the timings don't suit me] .. Pls pm me if you have somehow matching plans and are interested.
Many thanks.

Hi Trav, I doubt that you would find anyone is taking a taxi or cab back to HCMC. I suggest you either look for a flight a day earlier then stay one night in hcm or take a bus from Dalat to Hcmc. Have a look on "Thanh Buoi" bus website or maybe "Phuong Trang" bus, they are good but Thanh Buoi is better.

We went as part of a full day trip out of Dalat which would be far more interesting than trying to go from the airport to the falls which I think would be a long trip (and probably expensive!) and not worth the end result! Lots more superior falls in Vietnam, like Silver Waterfall or Love Waterfall out of Sapa.

Hi Alex,
you say you rented mopeds to the falls. Was it easy enough to find your way, or did you have a guide?

You can use your phone with google maps and it will be easy. Another way will be to hire an easy rider guide.
