Something I could not find on line was information about an paper artist I met in a small workshop along the cobbled lanes in Castelnou. A talented and modest man who makes artefacts from junk mail, recycling the colours and textures from waste products. He...More

Listed in the top 100 Beau Villages of France and I can understand why. It is picturesque and charming. It is situated on a hill, hence a lot of walking up and down cobbled streets but worth it.

Lots of people suggest parking for free at the spot shown in Pic 1. I wouldn't like that climb down or up! €3 for parking was fine with me but the spot is well worth a stop for the view down to the castle and...More

This charming medieval hilltop village has been my highlight of French villages! The cobbled streets, lack of tourists (midweek??) and the top floor apartments with the ‘bulge’ in the wall showing where the ovens were kept. Utterly unspoilt and quaint!

We went to visit this medieval village. As you approach it the views are amazing. You can park at the bottom and walk up the cobbled streets. There are a few small shops and restaurants. The views are stunning from here over the surrounding countryside.

even if it is a business oriented museum, the place is worth a visit. Nicely rebuilt/maintained, the houses, lanes and stairs are amazing.

Get away from the beaches and step back in history with a visit up here. But plan carefully, as parking is a nightmare during special events, such as market days. Not a place for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

To wander the winding streets of this perfect medieval hilltop village is one of the most perfect experiences of the region. Around each corner lurks a panoramic view, a unique cottage, a querky gem of individuality in some special way. Not really suitable for the...More

Castelnou, a medieval village perched high in the mountains of the Pyrenees-Orientales is, quite simply, breathtaking. Easily reached by road until a certain point when you just have to ditch the car and walk along a narrow mountain lane, surrounded by impressive, craggy mountains which...More
