We drove to Castelnou from Collioure, the view of the village seemingly nestled in the trees from a distance is very beautiful. Castelnou is one of the les plus beaux villages of France. We strolled around the little cobblestone lanes, some artisan shops around. Adequate parking just outside.

One of the most beautiful and worth visiting towns in this part of the Pyrenees. You must visit. By chance, I came across a male choir in the church. cool!

Get away from the beaches and step back in history with a visit up here. But plan carefully, as parking is a nightmare during special events, such as market days. Not a place for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

My wife and I drove from Andorra to Perpignan, France and when we arrived at our hotel in Perpignan the first place we headed to was the historic district by the Castellet.. The tourism office was open and the lady who was helping us recommended the Village Medieval de Castelnou as being one of her favorite places for artisan type souvenirs to bring home....And she was right !

The Village is located in a historic fortress situated on a hillside about a half an hour from Perpignan. It was well worth the drive. The fortress itself is so photogenic with its cobblestone alleys, stone walls, flowers, and just what you would have hoped for...So have your digital camera or cell phone ready to take lots of photos.

There were so many shops located inside the fortress walls....Pottery, art galleries, cafes, pastry shops, fresh produce vendors, great fresh baked bread, and lots of local beer and wine choices....The Village Medieval de Castelnou was a great find indeed.

We went to visit this medieval village. As you approach it the views are amazing. You can park at the bottom and walk up the cobbled streets. There are a few small shops and restaurants. The views are stunning from here over the surrounding countryside.

even if it is a business oriented museum, the place is worth a visit. Nicely rebuilt/maintained, the houses, lanes and stairs are amazing.

To wander the winding streets of this perfect medieval hilltop village is one of the most perfect experiences of the region. Around each corner lurks a panoramic view, a unique cottage, a querky gem of individuality in some special way. Not really suitable for the disabled although there is vehicular access to the chateau entrance. There are artists, restauranteurs, souvenir sellers and a real live marble sculptor in this village.

Castelnou, a medieval village perched high in the mountains of the Pyrenees-Orientales is, quite simply, breathtaking. Easily reached by road until a certain point when you just have to ditch the car and walk along a narrow mountain lane, surrounded by impressive, craggy mountains which must be home to some impressive wildlife. Take comfortable shoes with thick soles to accommodate heavily cobbled streets which duck and dive into the mountain. Some great looking eateries in this fabulous place, but mostly closed for the winter or, at least January and half of February. Also some cute-looking artist shops, but they also appear to hole up for the worst of the winter months. Still, just to walk around this precious place without tourists on a cold if sunny January day is enough to revive the soul. A must visit, far from the madding crowds, at least in winter.

A beautiful, unspoilt walled village. It's impossible to leave your camera alone. A very small place with steep, winding cobbled streets filled with artisans selling their beautifully crafted work.

This small medieval village was voted no. 7 of 22 most beautiful villages in France. I don't know about the other 6, but this village was really wonderful. It is amazing how they managed to maintain all those tiny stone houses and narrow streets in such a good shape until today. The village is surrounded by a wall, and the entrance to the village is made by a huge gate between two immense towers (we first thought it was the entrance to the castle). All the houses have flowers decorating the streets, the windows, or the doors. Words cannot describe the beauty of this magical place. I definitely recommend it!
