About
Lowe Wines is an organic & biodynamic winery, vineyard and farm in Mudgee NSW, headed by David Lowe. Backed by over 45 years of hands-on experience, Lowe follows a minimal intervention philosophy to produce wine from untrellised and unirrigated vineyards. Combined with their small batch, slow winemaking methods, the resulting wines are a true reflection of the place they are grown. The Lowe Cellar Door lies within the working winery on the Tinja property, and enjoys spectacular views across the vineyards to the surrounding Mudgee hills. Open 7 days, a visit is the best way for you to explore the range of wines, learn their stories and meet the winemakers. Enjoy a personal wine tasting, nibble on a regional platter or take a stroll around the farm, it’s all part of the experience at Lowe Family Wine Co. Next door will also find the acclaimed regional restaurant & food garden, The Zin House, headed by Kim Currie, as well as The Pavilion by Lowe wedding & events space.

I know that Mudgee is known for their wineries and their exceptional selection of wines they have to offer, but we wanted to do something different. We were advised by a friend of ours, that they had a picnic at Lowe Family Wine Company and loved the experience – I believe the only winery in Mudgee who offers such service? This is a great added feature to wineries, especially for tourists or even for a romantic day out. Bookings are essential. We ordered a ‘Picnic Hamper’ for two @ $30 each, select a time and date that suits you and the rest is done for you. We arrived there, told the staff at the entrance that we have a picnic hamper to pick up, which she showed us to the Cellar Kitchen (where the charcuterie bar is) and got our hamper, and selected a glass of wine @ $10 each, to enjoy with our picnic. We were advised where we may be seated, some places are reserved for group bookings. The presentation of the hamper looked amazing. It included 1 x sourdough baguette; two assorted cheeses; seasonal dip; marinated olives, jar of pickles; charcuterie pack; marmalade; salad of the day; seasonal fruit; and Pepe Saya butter. The products are locally made and organic. However, I thought it would have been reasonable, that at $60 for two, we should have had a baguette each and the fruit we had, were two thinly sliced orange, again… one full fruit would have been appropriate. Apart from that, everything was just perfect. We enjoyed our picnic with a glass of wine or two, while overlooking the vineyards to the surrounding Mudgee hills, the serenity and beauty of it all… awesome! Highly recommend it for families, friends or couples – definitely a unique experience, to be had in Mudgee.

We visited the winery over the long weekend in June, Lowe Winery was the 4th or 5th winery of the weekend. We arrived at Lowe's expecting the same experience we'd had at all the wineries but we were in for a pleasent surprise. Our Sommelier, Brian, was exceptional, he didn't just serve us a predetermined set of wined and talk mundanely about the wine he was serving. He asked us what our tastes and preferences were but also encouraged us to step outside of usual comfort zones. He was friendly and charasmatic, knowledgeable and passionate about what he did. The wines were so nice too. Overall, the best wine tasting experience we've had. I would absolutely recommend it.

Booked the picnic at Lowes what a beautiful location. If our wedding reception wasn’t already booked in Sydney I would love to get married there. The picnic “ basket “ was delicious from the sourdough baguette ( which we ordered more ) to the quality produce by High Valley Cheese. Fetta pesto and the brie wow! The olives were marinated and delicious and the cold meats were generous. Highly recommend for a nice lunch / day out. Lots of seating available under trees on a barrel or picnic blanket. Whilst the picnic basket was reasonably priced, the pantry items individually were on the pricier side but the quality is well worth it.

So glad to hear you enjoyed your picnic hamper and all the wonderful local produce! Thanks for your visit and hope to see you again in the future. Cheers, Lowe.

The gentleman who was older behind the bar was lovely. A younger gentleman told us they were full and could not accommodate us for wine tasting. But we could buy a "glass of wine" if we liked. We had just been booted from bluesfest in byron so we were accustomed to being treated poorly over easter. However the older gentleman was amazing. Explained the wines to us. We spent $300 on wine. Something maybe the younger guy needs to understand that older people spend money. The wines are lovely as is the winery.
I am only giving 3 stars due to the way the younger guy treated us saying they were full. Change the culture maybe and how you greet people and next time five stars. But dont let my review put you off it is great place.

We really enjoyed our experience (~2 hours) at Lowe Family Wines, the wine tasting of course (def book ahead!) with a small charge, and would recommend a food platter for lunch or grazing, baguettes, cheese, dips, etc. at one of the many tables overlooking the vineyards and paddocks surrounding the property. Then take a stroll around the property and soak up the country atmosphere, preferably under blue skies....

This is the best wine tasting experience we have experienced. Ronnie greeted us at the door and explained that there are two options; three wine tastings for free or a small cheese, bread and salami plate with nine wine tastings for $20. We opted for the second. Ronnie’s knowledge, expertise and great sense of humour kept us engaged as we sampled each of their excellent wines. The farm manager also came over and had a chat. Everyone was very friendly and positive. We were surrounded by wine vats which just added authenticity to the experience. We loved our visit and it created a very happy memory for us. Thank you Lowe family and our host, Ronnie.

Wine tasting has changed with Covid. Now it is all seated and served, with a $10pp charge and not refundable even if you buy wine! We had a pleasant experience with a knowledgeable young lady walking us through the wines. The location was stunning and the experience relaxing. Food is available at a cost, to add to the experience. We didn’t take the food options. The wines we tasted and liked, were way above our pay grade!!

A full-on tasting experience in a lovely setting under umbrellas overlooking the rolling hills and vines. Groups were seated for tastings and all were attended personally by winemaker/5th generation property owner David Lowe. He is not only personable but will make sure you enjoy the experience. Naturally you receive wine facts directly from the maker. A small food bar has the option to purchase bread and dips to enjoy with your tasting. Lowe wines are highly regarded and also available in very few outlets. All price levels and re and white varieties - a one stop wine visit.

Unfortunately my wine tasting at Lowe was the worst experience we’ve ever had, in my over 20 years of visiting wine regions around the world and experiencing tastings. We had booked 2 months ahead of time and upon arrival, my party of 7 were given a glass of bubbly but it was all downhill from there. Over the next hour, we received 2 further tastings with the most minimal explanation which we could have simply read off the back of the bottle. It was a weekday, overcast and rainy, so not that busy. The person serving us didn’t stay to chat even when my father in law tried to engage him in conversation. At every other table, we spotted him explaining the tasting notes, smiling, laughing and chatting for 5 minutes and more - but not ours. It was truly bewildering.
We decided to leave even though we had tasted less than half their tasting list and explained what a terrible experience we’d had. The woman at the front desk apologised and went into damage control, offered us a free bottle but it was too little too late. We won’t be going back - too many other great places which deserve our time far more.

Very good cellar door. Well run and organised as well as some excellent wines. Grounds looked nice for a wander, though we were restricted by wet weather. The rain meant all customers had to be seated indoors so some walk-ins were turned away, understandably. Bookings therefore definitely recommended however they were genuinely trying to accommodate as many as they could without compromising the service. We were served by the Cellar Door Manager who set an excellent example to her staff and was very knowledgeable about the product she was selling. She had a lot on her plate that day but still looked after us well. As far as the wines go, Pana Riesling a little gem. Not your average Riesling. We did the lunch at Zin House straight afterwards but will talk about that in a separate review.
