We decided to drop into the observatory today as we were out and about. Although it wasn't viewing time (as it was during the day) the owner was more than happen show myself and my husband around and explained the different telescopes, what they viewed etc. if the weather was clear we would've loved to have seen the night skies... Was really looking forward to this experience. Ive never been to an observatory before but really expected more. To be honest, I was expecting the setup to be a bit more professional. Its basically in someones backyard but that wasn't the issue.. It was very cold outside and we were basically waiting in a queue to get our turn to... More

Great! Experience for the whole family. John and Pat are extremely helpful. We saw the moon with different magnifications. Then a couple of star formations and finally Jupiter and the four moons that Galileo observed.

Scored a clear night and got to see the moons of Jupiter - WOW. Very passionate and extremely knowledgeable and able to explain complex ideas to little kids. Very cheap with tea and snacks provided and hands on as you get to touch and use some of the smaller telescopes. A late night for little ones so we had to... More

Been here a few times with groups of people - one was a birthday and the other was for a community group activity. I will agree with others reviews as well " John is so passionate about the stars" its infectious! :) Really worth a visit - you won't be disappointed.

Great set-up in a charming, unexpected spot! Worth the drive out there. The owner is generous with his time and passionate about his astronomy - our kids from 7 to 17 were rapt!

Loved it! Such a personal little observatory, with an owner so passionate about the stars. Just watch out for kangaroos on your way back to town!

I called on a Friday afternoon to enquire about coming out that night - there was no one else booked, but he was happy to give me a private session. It is quite a long drive from Mudgee, and a lot of it is off road (though very safe to get through in a sedan), so allow enough time to... More

A bit of a distance to get there from Mudgee town centre but worth it. The host was very friendly and the entrance is only $10. The guy who runs it set the place up as a hobby and he knows his stuff.

Worth the 20 min trek into the bush- builds the excitement! John was very relaxed & casual- ozzie bloke to match the mood of the evening. No bells & whistles here like city observatories, but everyone gets a go to look into several telescopes & watch some short DVD's on a big screen in Johns shed with some interesting artefacts....
