Fascinating to look at

The most famous landmark of Cuenca. How the houses were built and ‘hanging’ off the cliff was simply fascinating.

It was really hard to imagine how they were built without the modern equipment and tools of today.

Extraordinary

Amazing from any angle. From the upper Cuenca, from the lower Cuenca down the river. They will always be amazing.

A must-see when you are in Cuenca
Sep 2019
This is the site - and the sight - that identifies Cuenca.

The houses that have balconies overhanging the drop down to the river.

The best photo comes from the iron bridge across the gorge. You can also get another view from down below if you follow the path to the river.

Inside is a somewhat eclectic collection of art, and of course you get the good feeling of being on the inside of one of the wonders of the world!

Well, one of the wonders of Cuenca, anyway!

Cuenca has more to offer than the houses
Aug 2019 • Couples
They are actually a bit disappointing so don't go with huge expectations.
They're certainly a little different and you don't see this type of architecture every day.. but there's much more to Cuenca than the houses.
We did go inside and they house some modern art at the moment.
They are also being restored (as of August 2019) so expect a small amount of yellow netting round them.
We actually found it quite interesting watching the guys restoring it hanging from there ropes. It's a long way down.
We popped along at night to have a look, do so if not out of your way.

Scenic and wondrous
Sep 2019 • Couples
It's quite a feat of engineering - we spent some time wondering how the houses were incorporated into and build onto the edge of the escarpment. It's not just the hanging houses but all the houses along the edge of the rocky outcrop that is old Cuenca. There are some wonderful views from across the footbridge and at the north end of old Cuenca past the castle ruins. It makes Cuenca look magical and majestic. The modern art gallery in the main hanging houses also gives one a chance to see inside.

Beyond imagination

All the hanging houses look so spectacular on the cliffs. The top scenic in Cuenca. With less tourists and crowd the old town with hundreds years of history impresses all visitors.

Looked better in pictures
May 2019
I gotta say i was a tad disappointed when i saw the hanging houses. They looked a lot nicer when i googled them before my trip here. The house is now used as a museum, whilst there may be other attractions in this historical town, in hindsight i would not have made the trip here.

Pretty but a real danger of expecting too much and being disappointed. Cuenca is worth visiting for other aspects as well.

Really underwhelming
Feb 2019 • Friends
My second time visiting the Hanging Houses of Cuenca and I was still as disappointed as the first time I visited.
Although impressive for a 14th century building, it isn't as impressive as the local tourist board would have you believe! Good to have a quick look at, but definitely not worth building a whole trip around¬
