The previous day I had been to the Contemporary Art Museum and thought it didn't have a lot of art. So I guess my expectations weren't high for the MUBA, but it completely blew me away as a fine museum for this town.

The view from the street is quite deceiving. There are numerous pieces exhibited in at least two buildings. I think we spent at least 90 minutes (maybe longer) in this museum. There is the permanent collection and temporary collection. The temporary collection during the time of our visit was Goya's drawings.

The museum is in the Northeast corner of the core area of Badajoz and would fit in nicely with a visit to the Alcazaba or the Architectural Museum.

In a beautiful building in the heart of Badajoz. Plenty of very impressive, mostly local art, spread over three floors. What’s more - it’s free! Gave me a new appreciation of Spanish art. Lovely! Be careful because it does close at 2pm for a siesta break! Wished we could have had more time there!

I was astounded by the beauty of the building, the great organization of the collection, and the high quality of the artwork for a regionally-focused museum. Really glad that I didn't miss it! And the entrance is free!

I have never felt so persecuted in my life as in this museum. The security guards followed us everywhere and when I took a photo of the works they rudely warned me. The security guard said loudly that I shouldn't take photos and that I had to delete them. He also said that his colleague mentioned this rule in the entry (which didn't happen). This prohibition practice is contradictory to the QR codes that the museum has in the works, since to use them you have to point the phone camera at the paintings. After the incident I was afraid to touch my phone and the visit turned into a real disappointment. The security guards continued to chase us and talk on their walkie-talkies about our presence, which made us feel quite uncomfortable. The museum should change its policy since photographs serve to promote the museum's content on social media and attract more visitors. They also allow visitors to perform subsequent searches based on the name of the works. In addition, the Reina Sofía Museum has already approved the use of photographs in the Guernica room. MUBA should urgently review its standards and provide more humanized training for security guards. A visit to forget (both due to the lack of visual memories and the authoritarian treatment of the security guards).

This is indeed a Provincial Museum. Lovely space with plenty of art works. Like many places in Spain and Portugal the staff are busiest at having a fag in the street outside. The quality of the art work does not match up to the blurb on the website. Still interesting though.

The “Museu Provincial de Belas Artes de Badajoz” is at less than 100 meters from the “Giralda Building” in the same street. It is founded in the year 1920 and is actually considered to be the principal “Pinacoteca” of the “Estremadura” due to the quantity and quality of the objects in the museum. You can see works from allot of artists. The entrance is for free.

It is worth spending time in this flirty museum that has interesting works of painting and sculpture. In addition, we had the opportunity to see a temporary exhibition of Evaristo Navarrete (December 2024) that we loved.
