Usual passage during my mountain bike outings... A great perspective over 30 kilometers from the Hautil hill to the Eiffel Tower... The place lends itself to sporting activities: hiking, jogging, cycling in the immediate vicinity of the Parc des Cergy ponds accessible by a red metal bridge (the local golden bridge...)...
Accessible via the RER station Cergy Saint Christophe...

Before visiting this place I advise you to visit it's website 'axe-majeur.fr' once to gain as much information as possible.
It's a monumental work located about 30km from Paris.
It comprises of 12 points of interest starting with a leaning tower.
Each of these has it's own story to tell which is neatly described in the website and you wont find any much info, once there. It's a stretch of 3.2 km walk. The place is accesible by bicycle.
From Paris, easiset way of public transport is via RER A.Make sure you get down at second last stop which is 'Cergy Saint Christophe'.

After seeing an exhibition about the architecture of Cergy-Pontoise in Paris we decided to make a day trip to see the Axe Majeur. We took a picnic lunch and walked down from the station. We had lunch at the bottom and then got a bus back to pick up the RER.

It was a clear day and there was an excellent view of Paris. It was well worth the trip to see this mysterious and impressive large scale work of art.

This is a rare piece of urban architecture which is quite spectacular. You can get a view across Paris from the 12 pillars at the top and on a clear day you can see the Eiffel Tower. You can walk down the steps, cross over the bridge and visit the lakes where they have a lot of water sport activites. For more information about the site visit the Axe major website:

This location is very close to one of my family's home in Cergy - France, so when we are in Cergy with them, we walk or drive next to it every morning, I do not know much about the history side of it, was never interested, Not sure if it worthwhile driving from Paris to see this one, unless you make a pick nick out of it, plenty of open space and green, some views to Paris, It has sport activities, park and plenty of open space to run around.

This piece is aligned with the bridge right in front of it and the Eiffel Tower. When you look at it from the front it looks like there are only 4 pillars.

A nice place to workout of have a walk. The park in front of it is very relaxing and they do lots of activities there too.

Lovely spot in Cergy from where you can see Paris in the distance. Nice place to go for a run along the water.

This is my favorite place in Cergy! I love the view of the park and of La DĂ©fense de Paris, the columns, the fact that I can take a stroke... It's awesome!

This is totaly strange, it looks like a "Le Corbusier" thing, in the earth of the "Ville Nouvelle". Concrete, concrete and again concrete.. but finaly some grass and not too bad if you bring your BBQ you can spend the lunch or afternoon there.
