Winner of 4 Western Australian Tourism Awards including Ecotourism in 2009....

Winner of 4 Western Australian Tourism Awards including Ecotourism in 2009. Donnelly River cruises is an award-winning experience not to be missed. Operating daily, with bus pick-ups also available from Pemberton and Manjimup, Donnelly River Cruises conducts a river cruise of the lower twelve-kilometre section of the Donnelly River, within the confines of the D’Entrecasteaux National Park, in the South West of Western Australia. The cruise area, including the beach landing, encompasses an area that is not accessible by 4-wheel drive and is only accessible by boat. The atmosphere of the cruise is to “sit back, relax and enjoy” as you meander through the diversified eco systems of the river. In a conversational format where you are encouraged to join in, Peter & Shaun will enlighten you about the river, the ecology and geology of the area, the fauna and flora and some of the history of the area. The scenery is constantly changing as you commence in lush Jarrah and Marri forests, and then pass through the Paperbark and wetlands, past the limestone cliffs, to the majestic Southern Ocean. On the way you will cruise past the unique holiday huts nestled amongst the towering Marri trees and coastal dunes. While at the mouth of the river, you are given the opportunity to disembark and experience the isolation and pristine quality of the area, with a walk along the beach for about half an hour. The beach is approximately 2 km long confined by rocky outcrops at each end with no vehicle access at all. You are able to stroll along the soft white beaches in virtual isolation except for possibly a few locals trying their hand at some beach fishing. After toe tapping with the Southern Ocean, you will make your way back to the boat where you begin the return journey with a morning or afternoon tea complimented by Pete’s “fantastic” muffins. There is no one photo to depict this amazing cruise!!!

We had numerous correspondence with Peter during the build up to our short stay in Pemberton, regarding whether the river cruise would be running - we were in low season. The tour was eventually confirmed, and we were surprised, but delighted that the cruise boiled down to the two of us, rather than the usual boat full of people (max... More

We really enjoyed our cruise down the Donnelly River to the sea, but when it comes down to it there is not much to see apart from the river and the different trees and vegetation. There was little wildlife apart from a few ducks, geese and the occasional cormorant. The kids on our trip inevitably got bored by the 45... More

Great trip down the Donnelly River with expert guide Sean. Highly recommended. The trip to the river was very informative and the views from the river mouth and the ocean were spectacular.

Spent the afternoon on a bus tour through the Beedelup forest to the Donnelly River for a boat cruise, to where the river meets the Southern Ocean, with Shawn (Sean?). What a great tour guide, both on land and on the water. He is so knowledgable about the history of the area, the ecological changes over the years, and the... More

Friends who have done this river excursion '3 times' highly recommended it and we were not disappointed. All communications with Peter were answered quickly prior to the excursion then Sean who was our guide/ skipper on the day was excellent. We were fed extremely informative information of great interest over the 3 hours, but not bombarded with information. Sean read... More

There was much to praise about this cruise. The river itself is serene and reflective, lined with unique West Australia flora, contributing its tannins into the southern ocean as it filters through the sand bar at its mouth. The experience of this cruise owes a great deal to the multi-talented skipper, Shaun, a real one-man show. He drove the bus... More
