About
Vancouver Arts Centre is an active community arts centre and gallery and home to many local arts and craft groups. Our key purpose is to develop the creative capacity of our region and we focus on supporting the practice of art-making through delivering a diverse and engaging artistic program that empowers our community and the cultural sector. We run an annual program of touring, private and curated exhibitions, workshops, community arts projects and performing arts events, which aim to serve our existing customers and reach new audiences. Our facilities are available to hire by individuals and groups for cultural activity. Based in a historic building (the original hospital), our venue is special and unique and attracts visitors from outside the region to visit the gallery and enjoy a self-guided heritage tour.

Art by locals
Mar 2021 • Couples
Old building that was onceit a hospital. Now a Community Arts Center with one of the wards used as a Gallery for local artists. We called in while there was an exhibition by Andy Dolphin, an artist from Mount Barker

Interesting building but rather small Gallery.
Jan 2020
I was expecting to see more art of display but there was only one small gallery with only one artist. Obviously more of a creative arts centre for locals that a Gallery.

We went here not sure what to expect but we loved it. The David Milne exhibition was superb. Knew nothing about him beforehand but the exhibition was so helpful that we knew loads when we got out!! The other exhibition 'Cabin was equally good.

Looking for local art

Lovely. In the grounds of the old hospital, which is fascinating in its own right. Beautiful paintings on display when we were there.

A nice surprize
May 2017
I went here when the Vancouver Street Festival was on. A local person advised us to go there. I was glad that we did, it was so nice to see the arts and crafts of the local people. There was a strong sense of community. It was one of the highlights on our holidays in Albany.

Beautiful old building
Jun 2016
I love this building, its heritage listed and has that lovely old aroma to it. I found the staff to be a bit rude here, we have been to several gatherings here and experienced the same staff. There is parking around back and on the street, there is also a lovely view to the harbour.

Always something great happening
May 2016 • Family
Our family loves art, and I love the fact that there's always something happening at the Vancouver Arts Centre. I've always been intrigued by the history behind the building itself, which was originally the Albany Cottage Hospital (until 1962), and was then refurbished in the 1980s to become the arts and craft hub that it is today.

It has several galleries, and there always seem to be different arts events going on here. In fact just today (May 7th) it's hosting the Vancouver Street Festival, which includes things like gourmet food, markets, vintage bicycles and tweed ride, and more. We went last year as well, and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. We've been to a number of art exhibitions as well, and it's great that Albany has a facility like this for that purpose.
