A great museum with a heap of interesting exhibits and so much history. The building is very much larger than it looks from the outside and you'll need at least 2 hours to go through it. The staff are current servi ng members and are extremely helpful & full of interesting information.

I have visited many (but not all) of the Military Museums in Australia, as well as "The Tank Museum in Bovington England.
The Army Museum Bandiana is a class above most I've seen. The Tank Museum is second rate by comparison.
No the Army Museum Bandiana does not have a German Tiger 1, but they do have a wide range of exhibits I've not seen elsewhere in Australia or UK & USA.

I have visited some of the great military museums around the world and I think this is up there. The building looks a lot larger inside than out. There is everything regarding Australia's military history from the earliest days to current times.
There are dozens of vehicles, of which the majority still function. Many, many display cabinets consisting of very detailed collections. There is a gallery of weapons (all deactivated) and a small gallery of medals.
I would recommend the Bandiana Museum to anyone.

We had a most interesting and informative time at the Military Museum. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The displays are a good balance of visual and textual material and there are many army vehicles. After a couple of hours we were rather overwhelmed so would visit again on a future occasion !

We travelled 95 kilometres from Bright specifically to see this museum, as a result of it having a No 1 rating in Trip Advisor. When we arrived at the entrance we were greeted with two pieces of information that was not in the information on the RHS of the review page for this attraction:

1. Bookings must be made 24 hours in advance
2. Only open 3 days of the week, of which today ( Monday) was not one.

Even if it were stated that a booking must be made 24 hours in advance, we would have found that it was not open on Mondays and saved a wasted 190 km trip.

We wasted a lot of driving time to turn around at the entrance & leave Bandiana.

This was so disappointing, considering its high rating.

Firstly this was hard to find. Then it is on an actual military base. An appointment has to be made and it is not open every day. You have to get there early as there is paper work and permissions to allow you onto the base. Was looking forward to seeing the migrant history but had to give it a miss.

It's a very good museum once you actually manage to get in. It is not open often and you need to call at least 24 hours in advance. This is not so easy to do when they are closed so often. 5 out of 5 for the actual museum contents but 2 removed as it seems they don't really want anyone to visit.

The museum houses a fabulous collection of artifacts and memorabilia, and with a local focus too. There are a number of interactive displays to help keep young kids occupied. Allow several hours to visit and if you go in winter wear really warm clothes as the museum is not heated.

Suggest you phone in advance and check if bookings are required - they were when we went. Also check if ID required - again it was for all adults when we visited.

They have done a wonderful job putting the collection together with good informative commentary. It covers a diverse range of Army activity both historically and across the many corps and organisational component, all very well arranged. I spent a good three hours there. That was just on the inside of the museum as the outside exhibits are currently closed due to a higher level of security activated.

A top military museum put together by mostly volunteers. The museum covers all the wars that Australian Military personnel have fought in and some of the displays will amaze you. If you have been in the military or have a relation who has fought in a war you should put this place on your to do list. You will require a PHOTO I.D. to enter the Army base. There is a small entrance fee which goes back to keeping the museum upto date.
