Locals call their hometown "Willy." It's a close-knit community and when the co-operate, as they do to man the Visitor Information Centre, they do an excellent job. The Visitors Centre is near Gem Pier. It is open every day of the year, except Christmas Day, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The staff can tell you everything you need to know about your trip toWilliamstown. By the way, pick up a map, it's free and will save a lot of potential mis-steps.

You can always find out something new about Williamstown at the Hobsons Bay Visitor Information Centre. We go to Williamstown often and we always call in at the information centre. The staff are local people who know just about everyting there is to know about Williamstown. Williamstown is still like a seaside village, it's a great place for a day out. There are lots of restaurants and ice-cream parlours.

This is situated in the Café area of Williamstown and is one of the first building you get to if you come by ferry from Melbourne or St Kilda. Has a lot of information about the area and Williamstown's history

Excellent selection of Tourism information. The staff were very helpful, especially the lady there at about 11:30 on the 1st May. Great help and advise on where to eat or what to visit.

This is a fairly typical Vistor Information Centre providing information for tourists and visitors. It was closed when visited .The toilet facilities behind the centre were acceptable.

The staff at the centre were very well informed and helpful. They took the time to find out our interests and gave us lots of ideas for activities during our stay.

Have a cup of coffee in one of nearby cafes then head to the Visitor Centre for a map of the town and information on what there is to see and the opening times. The people are very helpful and have information not only of Williamstown but Victoria itself.

As soon as you walk in someone comes to ask if they can help you. Good at pointing out the lesser known things to see. Plenty of information leaflets plus word of mouth recommendations.

Williamstown's Visitor Information Centre is near the waterfront and Gem Pier, where the river cruise vessels and ferries tie up. The staff can supply you with leaflets for self-guided walks around historic Williamstown. Each walk is between 1 and 2 km long and would take an hour or so, depending how often you wanted to pause. Walk 1, Waterfront, guides you along the busiest section of the waterfront and adjacent streets, pointing out buildings such as the Customs House; an optional extension takes you to Point Gellibrand. Walk 2, Community, takes you along streets a little way back from the waterfront, identifying buildings dating from the 19th century: school, chapel, church, masonic hall, and so on. Walk 3, Seaside, takes in the Botanic Gardens, old houses, reserves, a bathers' pavilion, the railway station and several hotels; an extension takes you to Williamstown Beach.
On a weekend visit with relatives, I took Walk 2. It was a pleasant walk on level ground, through quiet streets. We saw some well maintained, attractive old private houses dotted between the significant landmark buildings. We didn't attempt to go into any of the public buildings. In most cases you'd be well advised to do your homework before choosing the timing of your walk if you wanted to go into particular buildings: for instance, the Historical Society Museum is in the Mechanics Institute and has limited opening hours.

In a park and with public toilets attached, this is a great info centre. It offers local attraction brochures, maps, and bus/ferry timetables. It also has brochures for other parts of Victoria. Whenever I am here I gather some to plan my next country trip. I agree that the toilets need some decontamination.
