3rd Trip on this road done from the Melbourne Side and the Mount Gambier side from South Australia both have amazing views and scenery Only 1 lane on most of the trip so be vigilant especially if it has been raining as the giant trees look like they may fall across the road Not much in the way of restaurants... Fantastic views all along this road! Busy, busy so try to get earlier in the morning. We went anticlockwise and took the motorway from Melbourne to Port Campbell and worked our way back towards Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road.

The best beaches are the ones not near a town. There are plenty of places to stop en route but not a great range of restaurants that we found and they are not all open all day if you want to eat at an odd time.

When in or around Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road drive is a must. The drive is beautiful with lots of places to stop at to admire nature's beauty. I did this (self) drive from Melbourne to Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge, Shipwreck Coast, Maits Rest Rainforest, Cape Otway Lighthouse, Apollo Bay and back to Melbourne in just a... This was spectacular trip but the roads are very windy and care must be taken if driving. Adhere to all the speed limits and plenty of warning of off ramps where you can take photo's. When getting near the 12 apostles there is and information center on the right and on the left is where you can view the apostles.... More

We were amazed how on the Great Ocean Road you barely get to see a spot of the ocean from Apollo Bay to Port Campbell. If you want to see the sea stick to the journey from Lorne to Apollo Bay. It is very twisty and if you have a tendency to car sickness I would suggest you travel very... More

One of the most scenic drives I have ever experienced, you need to see it on a good day and bring good walking footwear if you want to see it at its best. There are many stops along the way so leave time to get out and explore. We hired a car and did this ourselves as we did not... More

We did the Great Ocean Rd with a few stops booked in towards Melbourne. Doesn't make a tremendous difference although towards Adelaide more easily accessible stopping points. However there are plenty of views. Parts of the road are very windy and you need to take extra care. The views are spectacular and worthy of the praise it gets. Worth stopping... More

A twelve hour tour from Melbourne. Along the way you will stop at Memorial Arch, Apollo Bay, (lunch on your own here), 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and Port Campbell. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided interesting commentary. This is one of those tours where you sit back and enjoy the scenery. Even though the day was... More

We just spent 2 to 3 days travelling along this iconic stretch of land. Absolutely fabulous and worth spending more than a day as there are so many stopping places to admire views and stop at landmarks or quaint little towns and tourist attractions. Coasting around Apollo Bay fantastic. Port Campbell very touristy but close to main attractions like 12apostles... More
