I visited this place when my friend and I looked the direction to visit Erskine falls. The lady at the visitor centre is very helpful and patient to explain all the places around Lorne. She doesn't want to make me regret who came far away to visit as much as places around.

When this was upgraded years ago it made a huge difference to people travelling through the area. It has a few things to offer. One is about what's on in the area and the other offers a historical account of how the road was built. It was touching to know that soldiers from the 1st World War who were repatriated were the ones who contributed to it's creation.
The staff are delightful and not only helpful but knowledgeable. They can direct you to many attractions and give personal advice on what's good / bad or indifferent.
There are toilets here as well.
If you're looking for food, plenty across the road in cafes and restaurants. Wheelchair friendly, plenty of parking and a nice spot to jump further down the coast.
Make this your starting point for your adventures around the coast.

This place is a little gem and is well worth a visit particularly the information on the building of the road. You think it is scary now?

Some nice gifts here. Check out the mini historical tour inside - it is worth walking through. Very walkable.

Called in here yesterday for a browse and was not disappointed! Plenty of information on offer and staff that offered to help but did not hound us! Lots of brochures on everything and a very well done section about the building of the Great Ocean Road. Souvenirs were plentiful though as expected, as tad expensive. If you want to know anything about Lorne and/or the surrounding area this is the place to go.

I would strongly suggest that either before or after you trip to the Great Ocean Road you visit the Information Centre and look at the museum type display of the history of the Great Ocean Road. It is both interesting and informative and gives great insight into the history and development of this great piece of Australian infrastructure. The staff at the Information Centre were also friendly and helpful.

Thank you for visiting the Lorne Visitor Information Centre and taking the time to comment on TripAdvisor. As an accredited information centre, our staff and volunteers take great pride in providing the most accurate information along the Great Ocean Road, including free maps and guides, advice on attractions and discounted tickets.
You obviously visited the Great Ocean Road Story which is attached to the Lorne Visitor Centre, it provides such a great understanding of the construction of the Great Ocean Road via a series of galleries featuring historical displays and artefacts.
Thank you once again for commenting and I do hope you get the opportunity to visit us again in future.

We were travelling the great ocean road and were on our final leg back to Melbourne. The staff provided us not only with information on the local area but also information on Melbourne so that we didnt need to find the tourist information office there

We dropped by here on our way into Lorne and picked up some fabulous information. Sometimes you just need to read something in the printed form rather than searching for it on the Internet. We picked up some great clues on what to see around here. Also some very nice souvenirs available.

My partner and i will stay Torquay Sat 3rd Sept and arrive Lorne mid morning Sunday 4th Sept. We will stay one night.
After that 2 nights in Appollo Bay. We love beautiful walks (2-3 km) scenery, art, and hanging out in coffee shops.
I guess you will be closed Sunday so any advise would be greatly appreciated. We have accommodation booked.
After Appollo Bay we will stay Port Campbell,Port Fairie,Portland and Mt Gambier. We are seeking a few suggestions
Many thanks
Matt

Hi Matt, the Lorne visitor centre is open daily 9-5 so that won't be a problem.
Beach walks, the Otways and Erskine Falls are all good for 2-3 hours of hiking, coffee shops aplenty so you should have a great stay.
Hope this helps, Wayne
