Wonderful and informative history display

Really well done museum and display. It's worth stopping here to get a real idea of the background story of how the road was planned and developed. So much effort and complexity involved to create such a beautiful and scenic byway. This place does a great job of telling that story.

Breathtaking!

It's similar to the California coastline... BUT, this is AUSTRALIA, with its beautiful, pristinely preserved wild nature! Must go!

Very informative

The story of how the Great Ocean Road was built is located in the Information Centre as a permanent exhibition. It is very informative and a must if this road holds any interest. Not only does it provide details of the reasons it was constructed and people involved but it also has several old photos showing the men at work. Entry is free so this excellent exhibition is well worth a visit.

I mentioned the archway in a previous review. And this story exhibit will really bring to life the hard work that was done to build the road. And with free entry, you really shoudnt ignore this little gem.

Tells the tale of fortitude in building the road

Interesting story with historic photos. Worth half an hour or so to give the back story of how the road came to be. Tribute to the soldiers who built it with back breaking work.

Plaques tell an interesting story.

There is lots of information, well laid-out, that tells the story of the "digging" of the road by 3000 returned soldiers after the first world war.

Great history

If you stopped at the end of the Great Ocean Road, and asked all the drivers WHY the road was built in the first place, I bet you 75% of people would have no idea. Don’t be that 75%. Visit here for 10 minutes and understand what you are driving on - it’s free!

We had already traveled most of the Great Ocean Road (having come from Adelaide) before reading the history of the road --- it did however help us confirm that we had seen everything on our journey (thankfully we had done our research before we left for Australia)
