Teddy's Lookout is located at the top of the hill behind Lorne township. It was easy to find, I just followed the signs. It only took a few minutes to get there from the car park at the beach. There is a good sized car park. The lookout itself is situated in a nature reserve and there are picnic tables and benches available to use, but I'd already had my lunch down at the beach. There is a signboard which informs visitors about what they may find in the area.
The lookout itself offers a great view of the sea, the nearby hills with the Great Ocean Road snaking along their base, and the mouth of the St George River. I'm not sure what the elevation is there but it certainly looks a long, long way down.
There is another lookout below Teddy's Lookout which can be accessed via a rough cut, stepped path. It only takes a couple of minutes to walk down. The climb back up took near enough to double the time.
Native birds can be found in the area, including the Spotted Pardalote. I spotted a small bird in the tree at the top of the path but it wouldn't hold still long enough for me to get a picture or identify it.
The lower lookout, the St George's River Lookout also presents a very photogenic vista. The river winds back into its valley, crosses under a bridge where the Great Ocean Road makes one of its tighter hair pin bends, and runs out to the sea flanked by wide sandy banks.
There is also a walk to a waterfall that can be accessed from Teddy's Lookout but I did not venture that far.

My wife and I drove here during our recent holiday in Lorne for three nights. It is an easy drive up the hill and when we arrive at the car park, it is a short walk to this lookout.
The coastal views are very scenic. The Spring weather was very nice at the time of our visit. Sunny with clear views.

There was a small sign on the Great Ocean Road indicating the turn off to Teddy's Lookout. At the T-junction with George Street, there were no signs! Does one turn left or right?? It would be helpful for those of us without a GPS, to have a sign pointing to the left! Teddy's Lookout is at the top end of George Street. There is a small car park. It is a short amble to the lookout platform which provides superb views of the GOR crossing St Georges River and snaking along the coast. There is a path down to a lower lookout, if you are keen to explore a little more. It was interesting to see the 100 million year old concretions next to the path. There are many, many lookouts along the GOR, but this one's point of difference, is being able to admire the winding road itself. Be sure to make this one of your lookout stops!

Teddy’s lookout offers a great view and iconic photo opportunity of the great ocean road. Over looking GOR, there are two platforms to view from. If the first one is too crowded, move down to the second one. We often see Kookaburras off the track in the trees.

We paid a short visit here to take in the most iconic view of the Great Ocean Road as it winds its way along the coast. The viewpoint is within the Lorne upper residential area and access to it is well signposted. There is a good picnic area.

Teddy's Lookout was a great place to visit with the family even if you don't have a lot time to spare. Only a few minutes drive from the centre of Lorne. Great lookout and amazing views of Lorne Scenic Beach, St George river and the winding Great Ocean Road. Great photo opportunity. Would definitely come back.

This place is worth taking the time to find. It is tucked up the back of Lorne and perfect for views and little loop walks (from a half to one hour). Sightings of koalas and wallabies are almost certain.
But, of course, everyone asks who was Teddy?
Exactly how this site got its name has been lost in time. Different accounts are given in the local histories. One is that it is named after Edward, son of Queen Victoria. Another is that it is named after a donkey who roamed up here early last century.
But a more recent claim is that this arrestingly beautiful place is named after Teddy Richards of the Sydney Swans who held the great Buddy Franklin to just three goals in the AFL 2012 Grand Final. The Swans beat Hawthorn by 10 points. Courageous Teddy played the entire game with torn ankle ligaments. Just days beforehand, he could hardly walk.
Such is the stuff of legends.

Drove there to the lookout after seeing the many positive experiences from tripadvisor folks, and yes everyone's comments were right on spot - the view is fantastic.
I reached there just when it was drizzling, so there was a complete rainbow that had formed on the coastal sea. Very beautiful and amazing!
However, if you are driving there, beware. I made use of Google maps, which recommended me to take Francis St. up to the parking spot for Teddy's Lookout - this road is so steep, narrow and sloped sideways at a particular turn that it is impossible to drive through even with a 4WD!
My recommendations if you are going uphill - don't take Francis St. - you can take Wallace St at the next junction instead.
If you are going downhill, you'd best take John St or any of the other gentler-sloping roads (just NOT Wallace St or Francis St!)

Teddy"s Lookout is located in an unlikely spot at the end of a residential area.
Easily accessible and a short walk from the car park the path is smooth and there are benches at strategic points.
The view is beautiful especially on a clear day.

Can I take a caravan up to Teddy's Lookout. Is the turn around sufficiently large to do a complete turn in one go?
Written February 22, 2015
There is a car park at the lookout, but if it is a busy day it could be tricky to park a caravan.
