We were quite disappointed to see this place closed and apparently is because seals are eating the penguins! This is actually not true because we did another tour instead at night and the guide told us that it is not true. The seals are eating fish not penguins ... this is a way bigger problem than seals, this involve too... More

We really wonted to visit the Penguin Centre in Kingscote, but unfortunately, it has been closed. I understand that as a result of a variety of environmental considerations the penguins have been over hunted by New Zealand Fur Seals which has decimated the Kingscote population.

We made the reservation for the tour to spot the penguins at the tourist information centre. When we arrived at the penguin center we were first given the facts about the colony. The guide was very well informed and highly motivated to make the most out of it. We had a great time and saw six penguins. You need a... More

A small centre with information on the famous Fairy Penguins. They have a knowledgable staff who lead groups to see the penguins, if you are lucky. I froze over a couple of nights and believe I saw one.

I love penguins and was excited to go on a night tour from the penguin centre. Sadly there seem to be no more penguins and no tours. I was very disappointed. The centre was shut and there was no information on the door - we had to go on the Internet to check about the sad demise of the penguins.... More

While visiting the KI information center, the clerk there was initially positive about this venue. When pressed for more information, she recanted and admitted that the colony of Penguins that (used to be) there, have not been seen of late. In a nutshell, they are all but gone. We appreciated her candor with us. As it turned out we visited... More

This attraction is closed as the seals have eaten all the Penguins! You can wak down to the wharf and see seals but naturalists are in the process of relocating them!

Unfortunately, due to the excess NZ Fur Seals, there are no longer any penguins left to see. There is pelican feeding nearby, $5 per person although no sign to indicate this
