    Incredible tasting experience
We had a ball wine tasting here. Andy looked after us perfectly, and we couldn't fault the attention and detail he took every step of the way. The wines were outstanding and we certainly made sure that we shipped some back to Sydney. This is such a special winery with a great product and great staff. We will be 100% certain to return on our next visit to Clare

Don’t Miss It - Great Wines & Food
The wines are among the best in the Clare Valley. The Watervale Riesling is stunning but the reds are very good as well. It’s a great spot for a lunch with self selected grazing platters. Best of all is the owners and staff are so helpful and go out of their way to make it a great experience.

    Well Worth the Visit
Shut the Gate Winery is excellent and not to be missed. The wines are great and the tasting generous. We availed ourselves of the store for a grazing platter of our choice and sat in the garden with a beautiful glass of wine....innovative concept. Very friendly staff and a relaxing few hours. Highly recommended.

A beautiful winery to visit. The first time I visited this place with family was 2016, so when we visited months ago it's a massive change (for the better) they made a small shop on the previous small room for wine tasting. This place a plenty beautiful areas to sit with a group indoor or outdoor it's a gorgeous place. And their wines... are something we will drive hrs just to get it. Love this place ❤️

We tried this winery based on a recent tasting of one of their wines. We were entertained by the cellar door manager as well as the selection of produce on sale in the adjoining providore room. We purchased both some wine and local produce. It is worthy of visiting.

Stopped off here for our first winery of the day, the tastings are free and they are happy to take you through them all if you wish, we brought 4 bottles and the staff member was so accommodating when I asked for a strange request which was could she please keep the bottle of sparkling that I purchased in the fridge and we would be back later on to buy things from the grocer and enjoy our wine ( it was only just after 10 and we had just had breakfast but the setting was so beautiful I knew I wanted to go back later for lunch )
Ask if they have any of their white sparking, it’s not on the list as they are running low on it but it was absolutely delicious.

The grocer has lots of delicious things for both picnic platters and also to take home and cook with, the pickled pineapple is delicious ( sounds strange but tastes so good) once your purchased your goodies they pop them into a basket with cheese knife, fork, scissors to open packets and cheese board.

I highly recommend this winery and setting and would love to return with friends to spend a lazy afternoon in the sun like we did today

Cheeky visit to the cellar door on the way out of Clare. Did a tasting, which was extremely pleasant. Service was friendly and I loved the freebie cheese and crackers. The wines here are not just your Nan’s standard: they’re fun and a bit different, but there is certainly something for experienced drinkers and newbies alike. I recommend the Barbera - surprising eucalyptus flavours! Came home with several bottles. The decor is quirky and comfortable, very welcoming.

We wanted to taste some wine and with the current COVID restrictions the wineries have to limit the wines you can taste. However Shut the Gate allowed us to taste any wines we liked, they even gave us a little cheese with biscuits - just lovely.
Really comfortable cute room.
Great wines - bought more than we intended
Would highly recommend visiting here.
They also have a little shop with snacks and gifts and specialty foods.
Definitely call in here.

There are so many wineries in the area but we were so pleased that this was our first choice. On a cold, rainy day we were invited to relax in the lounge by the fire and, without rushing us, our host Rob, gradually took us through a number of the wines available. Rob was knowledgeable and happy to share his knowledge and answer our questions. We felt welcomed and valued as customers. The wines were very good and we were pleased to purchase a variety. The Little Grocer adjoining had some tempting offers both for us and for gifts. The space itself is so appealing and inviting. We were enjoying the experience so much we didn’t realise that we had been there for almost two hours. I can highly recommend a visit and a purchase.

We stopped because the name was interesting, the story behind it is because as kids they were always told to ‘shut the gate’.
Wines were okay, although I didn’t like any, hubby didn’t mind a few reds.
Staff friendly although a bit rushed as she was by herself trying to serve, sell items and answer the phone. Toilets a little difficult to locate as no signs.

Nice wines served by a bubbly host. Would have liked the option of sitting on the comfy chairs but these are only offered when the small bar area fills up. Worth a visit - right near the visitor information centre. Also has a cute shop with gourmet goods to purchase.
