Lost in Time
Oct 2020
Visited on Friday 23rd October. We went for a walk along the main street, good to see it still has some of the original character and the historic buildings have info boards.

Has really grown up the past 3 years.

Gympie region now has a lot to offer families and young people. From the River Trail walk, to youth precinct centre to the Aquatic centre, it really has got a lot going for it. Not to mention the MAry Valley Rattler. A must for all who love to relax, explore and wind back time with a good old fashioned puffing steam train to take your worries away!

Lovely Gympie heritage walk and drive
Jul 2018 • Couples
It is a lovely stroll through the main street and a little beyond to do the heritage walk. The brochure along with the signs at each historic sight give ample information about the history and the stories connected to the sights.
We also drove to some of the other sights listed on the brochure. Gympie has an interesting history and we were glad we could learn about it.

This tourist information office is always full of brochures and maps for the local area with great ideas of how to spend your time in the region. The staff are volunteers with a passion for their home town. Great place and assistance!

Mary River enhancement works has made the river walk an attractive area for fitness and recreation. Access to the river has been greatly improved and offers locals and tourists a great option for outdoor activity

Many old buildings have been preserved and many homes seem to be being restored . Mary Street is a beautiful main street with many quirks to hold your interest . History buffs will enjoy poking around this town .

After 30 years
Feb 2017 • Family
We have lived in this area for thirty years now and have seen many tourist friendly additions and improvements to Gympie. Even though Gympie is recognised as the turn off point for Rainbow Beach/Fraser Island, it's a great place to stop for a while, whether for just a cuppa at the duck pond (where the kids can feed the ducks or play in the modern play area ,there is also the Gold Museum close nearby), or to camp/motel for a night or two. There are two free o/night camp areas - one south of town and one north - plus caravan parks for longer stays.

Gympie being an old gold miming town is quite hilly due to old mullock heaps etc which makes it interesting to drive around and see some of the remaining miners cottages here and there as well as many historically protected buildings from the gold mining era.

The Mary Valley Rattler, a great tourist attraction. which closed down a number of years ago,is about to begin operating again this year, which is great news.
So, all in all Gympie is really a good place to spend a little time before venturing further on your journey.

Gympie A Try
Jan 2017 • Family
What a lovely place to visit. Nice architecture and a great high street which is more than worth a stroll up. This quaint town off the Bruce Highway is a great place to see. Shame we couldn't have stayed longer, but a definite return visit is on the cards the next time we are in Queensland just so we can explore the many delights on offer that we missed.
