Minnehaha Falls

Minnehaha Falls, Katoomba: Address, Minnehaha Falls Reviews: 4.5/5

Message from Tripadvisor
The walking track to Minnehaha Falls (North Katoomba) is currently closed until further notice - due to safety risks relating to the instability of a rock overhang. Council is currently considering options to undertake the work required to safely reopen the track. This will take some time and we thank you for your patience. Those ignoring closure fencing and closure signage do so at their own risk and are urged not to.

Relatively easy walk to tick off your waterfall bucket list. The path is a lot of uneven rocks to step over combined with stairs. You don't need to be fit to tackle this one, an average person could do this walk. The waterfall is worth the under 60min walk. Beautiful spot to sit for a minute. Would be lovely for a swim in summer!

I love how Minnehaha Falls is a light rail train ride away! It's so accessible for travelers using public transportation, and the views are absolutely beautiful! I was personally surprised by the amount of people trying to trespass boundaries for photos and how many families let their young children swim in the lake (doesn't look like fresh water), but other than that, I enjoyed the peace and serenity of my walk from bridge to bridge. A beautiful place to see! If you want to walk the entire park, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle!

My husband and I walked today (with our 13 month old in a carrier on my back) down to the waterfall and it was as beautiful as I expected. I had read reviews and some worried me, some mentioned 'cliff walking' so I imagined something like Cliff Hanger, it's not like that at all, there are some steep parts and areas we navigated carefully but I managed it with the baby on my back with no issues. There were families with small children who also walked themselves down there.
We took a picnic blanket thinking we could set up a picnic spot, this isn't that kind of spot, it's mostly rocks around the water, if you were more daring you could climb to the side with some space and roll out a towel but I didn't dare that.
The water is freezing!!!!! But refreshing. Everyone who walked down still swam as it was too beautiful not to enjoy.
We will definitely go back without bubs next time so we can both relax and enjoy the water care free.

Lovely area just outside of Katoomba, but unfortunately when we arrived on Sunday the signs indicated that the trail/falls are closed indefinitely. You will want to find an alternate hike in the area.

The track is currently closed. Someone got fined last week as you are breaking the law if you go past where the track is blocked off. No indication of when it will reopen. Sign says there is unstable rock just like Wentworth falls where someone died late last year.

Some great spots before the where the path is shut to paddle in the creek by some small waterfalls which would be great for kids.

There are no toilet facilities.

This is on the north side (not the shops side) follow Minni ha ha Rd to the end, slight turn to the left. As well as the waterfall there is a little park and a grass area to play ball with some benches.
This is a great short walk (3km return) that walks along the stream, so you are listening to the flowing water which is so calming. The first half of the walk is flat. Second half is down some steep sections. If you are use to bush walking you wouldn't give it a second thought. If you are not use to bush walks you may find the steep sections intimidating as the rails are missing in spots and some sections you are close on the cliff face. As a given with bushwalking closely watch your children!
For footwear at the moment with all the rain gumboots are best! Usually joggers are fine. The path in sections really fills up with water and there is the crossing of the stream right at the beginning of the walk. Last week my daughter's knee high gumboots filled up.
Lots of stops for kids along the way, playing in the stream and picnics.
The is a section at the bottom little children can simply around in as the edge is shallow. You can take a side track near the bottom to keep following the creek.
It is becoming very touristy now, so if you are barefoot be careful of broken beer bottles. Forever picking up glass these days!!

Nice area to walk and enjoy nature and beauty of Australian bush. Always look good after rains when more water flowing.

Be careful of rocks, it is deceptive how deep water is. Lovely cool water to swim in but wear comfortable shoes for walk to the falls!

A not so highly advertised water fall and walk. Parking can get a little scarce. The walk down is ok and the water great for a swim but I have to say the walk back up does wear you out, but it is worth it.

My boyfriend and I went to Minnehaha Falls on our last day in the Blue Mountains after an English man in the Katoomba Souvenir Shop recommended it. A part of me didn't want to write a review, as it was a beautiful, quiet location that didn't seem to have the crowds of people that most other places in the Blue Mountains did.
The walk was about 20-25 minutes to get to Minnehaha Falls and the same on the way back (45-50 min round trip).
If it had been warmer when we visited, we definitely would have swam.
The waterfall/swimming hole is beautiful. I could even see a rainbow in the waterfall.
Another family there at the same time had young children and dogs there, so it is definitely children/pet friendly if they don't mind a walk and some stairs.
