About
The Cowra Visitor Information Centre is an essential first stop for visitors to the Cowra region. Our centre is home to 'Claire' the local girl who tells her personal account of the Cowra Breakout through a fascinating hologram presentation. The hologram is a free theatre and continues to be as popular as ever with the 60,000 plus visitors our friendly team welcome each year. Our centre is your one stop shop for local & regional information, maps, local produce, craft and now proudly over 40 varieties of local Cowra region wine. Why not select a bottle of award winning wine and some local produce to enjoy during your stay or better still, allow us to customise a hamper of local produce for you to enjoy during your stay.

The staff at the information centre were so helpful and friendly.

We were very impressed with the free POW Hologram Theatre, which tells the story of the Cowra Breakout and its aftermath. Definitely a must see before going to the POW camp. Kids old or young will love it as a young woman "comes to life" out of a picture and tells her story.

Also there was an interesting collection of military historical artefacts such as weapons and uniforms etc.

The shop is fantastic and has a vast collection of local wines (we bought a red and white and both were fab).

For little kids there is a really good park next door, a Maccas and a coffee shop close by for mums and dads.

We appreciated the maps and hints the staff gave us about where to go in town for dinner, what to see in the district etc.

We started our trip to Cowra at the tourist info centre. We were lucky enough to meet Lawrence. He’s a superstar at giving great info, and generating great enthusiasm to visit local attractions. His wealth of local knowledge is huge, and we took up his challenge, and did it all. Then we meet him by chance at the Japanese Gardens with the new Japanese Ambassador, and thanked him. We had the best time in Cowra. Thanks Lawrence.

The hologram retell of the breakout and the local artefacts make this even better than the usual visitors centre. Lots of interesting things to purchase and most seem of excellent quality and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful and could answer all the questions I heard asked while I was browsing. It’s proximity to the beautiful rose garden, which is not yet in full flower, is an added bonus.

At the Cowra visitors centre you will meet Lawrence, Rose and Lexie, if you allow your self the time and are not scared to ask questions these three locals who provide information for the traveller through the area will bestow upon you the history of Cowra and the region like only someone who has lived and loved the Cowra region all their lives can.
They are happy if they are not busy (come back if they are, it's worth it) to regale visitors with historic antidotes, scandals and tails from the area.
While there the hologram presentation of Cowra breakout is a must see and is free (do this before you visit the camp the cemetery and Garrison gate's.
If you are visiting during the times of covid you can stock up on wines and artisan produce to avoid the need for booking appointments with the cellar doors as drive ups are not encouraged at the moment. This a must stop visitors center.

Super friendly and helpful staff!
Very interesting hologram about the Cowra Breakout, told by a girl called Claire. It gives you a great insight what happened in Cowra before visiting all other sites.
You can also buy nice gifts, good wine from the surrounding areas and take maps to help you get the most out of the area in and around Cowra.

We stopped in Cowra recently at the information centre.
The staff were all really friendly and recommended we watch a holographic short film put together.
It was honestly amazing! I’ve never seen anything like it before and my daughter and I learnt so much in the short time we were there about Cowra and it’s war history.

This info centre had it all! They had lovely local knitting, which was well-priced.I bought some baby clothes and a scarf as gifts. I loved that there was a good selection of local wines and gourmet foods for purchase. There was also the hologram display on the breakout which was beautiful to look at and informative without being boring. A must to visit!

Staff very welcoming as soon as we walked in. Lots of locals doing Christmas shopping but the staff managed to look after all of us. Offered us local wine tasting and great range of local foods.
Watched hologram documentary of Cowra POW camp and breakout. Really really good and highly recommend a visit just to see that.
Got lots of information about what to do around Cowra.
Really well run information centre and obviously proud locals who love their town.

The ladies who manage the Visitors Centre are knowledgeable, helpful and fun. The hologram experience of the break out is a must and as it’s difficult to get a cellar door wine tasting at local wineries, just do it at the visitors centre. We tasted up to 8 local wines and took a bunch home. There is a lot of local produce available.

Starting my trip with the hologram show here was the best idea. It was a nice way to learn about the Breakout before having a look at the PoW camp. The staff also provided good advice where to take my dog for a nice walk, what else there was to see close to Cowra, and the Rose garden was right there as well. (Though May was not the best time to see it...)
