The trip out to the Hardy Reef is a fair way and you arrive at 11am after a lovely morning tea on board. The return trip leaves at 3pm with lunch served between 12:30 and 1:30. Even though everything is super organised and efficient it feels like a whirlwind and I am soooooo glad we chose the Reef Sleep. After the day trippers leave the pontoon you can snorkel at your leisure, Beer and Wine served with afternoon tea and this is the start of a culinary extravaganza from French Chef Sebastian. Hosts Mason and Phoebe are superb at providing and organising everything and making it a great social fun experience. Having all the extra time allows you to soak in the Reef and the guys in the underwater suites show you their quarters ( well worth getting in quick for as there is only 2)
Definitely worth taking a dive- the dive team are incredibly professional, attentive and thorough.
Due to Covid the boat is only a quarter capacity so if you don't like crowds now is the time!!

We did the day trip to Daydream island with lunch . Its a full day trip leaving around 8.30am and returning on the ferry any time till about 5.30. I think we left on the 4.30 ferry feeling like we explored everything . Cost was around $600 for 3 adults and 1 child. This included the most amazing lunch, with so much food we took the leftovers home for dinner. We tried to book one of the living reef snorkelling activities a month before hand but it was already booked out. So if you want to do an extra activity make sure you book way way ahead.
Day trippers are supposed to only stay down the day resort end , which is where the equipment hire is. Its a flat walk along the front of the island or through the rainforest, about 1km probably . Weather was windy so we couldn't get a catamaran or canoe, but they are available for a small fee . Day area is still living in the 80s and in need of refurbishment, the shops are all closed and only 1 bar is open and they were very overworked . We waited 30min for a cocktail only to chase is up to find out they had forgotten about it.
The pool down the actual resort area is stunning and far superior. Hopefully they get to refurbishing the day area soon. The living reef is down at the resort area but before the pool area so day trippers can access it. It really was very beautiful watching all the sea creatures. Loved seeing all the wildlife on the island , the birds wander around the reception and grounds as well as kangaroos .

Whether this is your first visit to Airlie Beach or you come here every year, you really must get out on the water and visit the islands, it’s the essence of the Whitsundays and the whole point of being here.

I realise not everyone is a fan of the smaller vessels or sailing boats but there is an alternative. One that ticks many boxes for all age groups especially the more mature traveller and for those who are concerned about seasickness.

The other great attraction to this option is it is inexpensive, and you can choose how long a trip you want it to be. It can be carefree DIY or as a package.

I am of course referring to taking an island transfer with Cruise Whitsundays to Hamilton Island. Their large catamaran vessels are built for comfort, speed, and passenger safety. Travel inside or out, upstairs, or down. Your time on the water is limited to around an hour max each way, most of which is on smooth water close to land. And their crew are there to ensure you experience is a safe and enjoyable one.

As a bonus most journeys travel between the numerous islands with a short stop at Daydream Island. Seeing the landscape from the sea gives you an entirely different prospective of this stunning region. The cliffs, lush green covered hills and sandy beaches all make you realise just how lucky we are to live in a land of such amazing beauty and contrasts.

Once on Hamilton Island you have access to two free shuttle buses that cover most of the island including the wow moment of your tour – one tree hill. This view will blow you away no matter how well travelled you may be. To chill out enjoy a coffee, snack or meal from the numerous restaurants, bakery, and cafes with lots of seating overlooking the marina and turquoise waters.

What impressed me about this method of seeing the islands was despite the ferry being on a schedule dictated by airport arrivals and departures the captain still managed to stop the boat to give us chance to watch whales and dolphins playing in the blue waters. We were lucky enough to see a one-day old calf alongside its mother whilst another adult was breeching nearby. You don’t need to be rich and famous to cruise the Whitsundays.

If you return on the later afternoon service, you can enjoy a cold beer or wine from the onboard bar whilst taking in the stunning sunset over the water.

This is the perfect way to get out and see what the Whitsundays are all about and the real reason you came to this area in the first place. Remember; you can do all this without it costing a fortune, just the price of a transfer ticket or take their island day package with added extras.

PS: Cruise Whitsundays also run trips to the outer reef for snorkelling from their pontoon

Great experience on the full day tour, included a guided walk up to the hill inlet, our guide Michelle was fantastic! After this you were free to do as you liked. Spent about 6/7 hours on Whitehaven Beach itself. Very slick operation, with sting suits and sun tents provided, burgers at lunch time and help yourself soft drinks and ice cold water. The return transfer had an open bar, with beer, wine and tea coffee etc. We left Port of Airlie at 7:20am and returned at 6pm so it really was a full day! Would fully recommend this tour to anyone.

I really did not appreciate that the trip on Camira was not canceled today. The day and night before there was a forecast for thunderstorm and high winds and it was clear the trip would be very unpleasant. Yet the company went ahead.
Of course due to the cancellation policy not giving refund within 72 hours before departure we felt we had to go because almost 700$ is a quite a bit of money to lose.
Result: me and my two children have been wet and cold all day, the water for snorkelling was unclear and Whitehaven beach was very foggy.
In such conditions it would have been nice as a minimum to be given the option. It makes me suspect that the company cares more about money than about the well being and safety of its passengers.

We stayed overnight on the reef, sleeping in one of the swags. The weather was terrible, very windy, rough water and torrential rain at one stage, but we still had an awesome time. A special thanks to Reef Safaris for ensuring the diving was as good as possible considering the conditions. The dive guides were excellent. The boat and pontoon were excellent too and a special mention about the staff, they went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. And the food for overnighters was divine. We look forward to another visit in better weather. I think a sunset and sunrise on the pontoon would be perfect.

We decided to do an Outer Reef tour at short notice, it ain't cheap.
But....what great value, fast ferry with morning tea on the way out, 4 hours on a part of the reef, with carefully monitoring of all guests, buffet lunch and afternoon tea on the way back.
Snorkeling gear and stinger suits provided.
Yea, okay they up sell too, I did a guided dive for $109.00, but they also provided all that gear too, ( a second dive was another $59.00) and I thought this was pretty good value seeing as how a tank hire alone back at Airlie was $25.00.
I know, the reef isn't as good as it was 10 years ago, but I thought all 6 of us should all see it, because it may not be around the next time we get to go back.

On board the ship was clean and tidy. There was enough space to move freely without crashing into other people. The amenities were spacious with an electric hand dryer. There were easily accessible compartments for bag storage.
The crew were friendly and funny. During the ride there was information about the area, and jokes made along the way. The safety briefings were easy to understand. All equipment needed was supplied by the crew.
Special shout out to Felicia who was the only female crew member on board, as she: cleaned the barbecue and packed away all of the dishes.
Overall, it was a great ride out, with an extraordinary crew, and enough food and drink to last the whole day.

We recently traveled with cruise Whitsundays as a ferry hopper between our accomodation on day dream to the airport at Hamilton island. Unfortunately we has some issues with our luggage checkin and needed cruise Whitsundays to hold onto it for a duration of time before it could be sent home. The staff at cruise Whitsundays has gone above and beyond to help Assist us in any way they could which unfortunately meant a lot of back and forth from ship to airport.Ashlee from cruise Whitsundays was a god send and has out performed any expectation in customer service we could have imagined. We look forward to travelling again with this company!

$121 for return ferry trip from Airlie Beach to Hamilton Island. How can you justify that price. No signs in booking area of trip costs. Only decide to go to Hamilton Island that day as my full day sailing adventure, which cost the as the ferry ticket, was cancelled due to weather.
A bit expensive to just go check out the Island for a day, walking everywhere as all buggies booked out for 3 weeks.

I'm sorry to read that you felt that $121 is overpriced for a return transfer to Hamilton Island. As Hamilton Island is a privately owned island the government subsidies that other islands receive are not applicable to the fare. This fare covers an array of different expenses that Cruise Whitsundays incur for our daily operation. The costs can be found on our website and as these are charged as a Resort Connection we do not apply any cancellation fees should you have decided not to proceed with the booking. Unfortunately Cruise Whitsundays has no control over the availability of the buggies on Hamilton Island.
