The walk/hike to get to this free attraction was a little unnerving with my little kids (and is not good with a stroller). Once we made it to the top, it was great. You can explore the ruins of Frankenstein castle and the kids loved...More

Not to be confused with another Frankenstein Castle near Darmstadt, this one is situated literally on the top of a railway line connecting Neustadt to Kaiserslautern. If you're coming by train, as you exit the station and turn right along the main road, there are...More

Took a picnic lunch and hiked up to the castle. Serene setting and a wonderful view of the town and valley. Pretty cool to watch the train come out of the tunnel as it goes past the town.

This castle is situated in the town Frankenstein, about 20 minutes of driving from Kaiserslautern (don't confuse it with another Frankenstein castle located in Hessen close to Darmstadt). There are several ways to get to the castle from the town. I prefer to start close...More

I grew up watching those old monster movies including about every Frankenstein movie made, so our family of 4 including 2 children ages 9 & 12 were flying to Frankfurt to visit relatives in nearby Mannheim, and Burg Frankenstein with the cool castle is on...More

This castle was on our list of many castles to visit. We enjoyed our family hike up the forest trails and enjoyed the spectacular views. The place is very dangerous for small unattended children. There are many areas that have straight drops. Still a very...More

Fascinating place. We ran into an old woman while viewing the graveyard who told us "the tale of Frankenstein". Have no idea if what she said was true but nonetheless the castle is there and so is the graveyard. Though the castle is in ruins...More

It’s a steady uphill climb. There are different paths that you can take depending on what level hiker you are. I went with my 3 young kids and they did fine. We stoped several times along the way up to take in the views.
