- shelby502016Rutland, United Kingdom19 contributionsBarn event room - perfectThe barn event room is a perfect private room to host a small function. We held a baby shower here and had a sit down afternoon tea for 23 people. The food was incredible (all home made) and it has a licensed bar in the room which made it even more perfect. The aspect is incredible and on a summers day with the patio doors open it would have been even more stunning. Josh and his staff looked after us all impeccably. I can wholeheartedly recommend.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 6, 2024
- Amelie MaeAngouleme, France98 contributionsAverage at best with unfriendly and unhelpful staff.A nice enough brunch, with tea and coffee. Wise to book and reserve a table if travelling from far. The staff were not welcoming, not particularly friendly and definitely put us off a repeat visit. Mostly ignored us altogether.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 31, 2024
- BoniobiscuitsAylesbury, United Kingdom3 contributionsWymondham Windmill Family holiday, couldn't recommend it enough. We came to Wymondham Windmill for a motorhome holiday, where the small motorhome site was in a small field in front of the windmill and buildings. The views from the site were amazing and with 5 or 6 spaces, the venue seemed very personal and calm. Josh & Vince welcomed us to the site and could not be any more helpful if we needed anything. The site as a whole is lovely, with a gorgeous tea room (strongly recommend the Sticky Toffee Cake & Hot Chocolate), quaint little shops, park & woodland walk (which was great for my two small children) and don't forget the Windmill! The windmill is open over the weekend to have a look around and the views from the top look over the Rutland landscape. Rutland water is only 20 minutes drive away, not far at all. I have been to many campsites and caravan sites over my time, but I would definitely recommend a visit to this one. It had a lovely peaceful and calm feel to it which is exactly what we needed over a May bank holiday weekend. Thanks Josh, we will definitely be back one day.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 7, 2024
- AnonymousLeicester, United Kingdom9 contributionsFabulous venue with delicious afternoon tea at very reasonable price - highly recommend! So where to begin! I cannot praise this venue highly enough. This is the second time we have been for afternoon tea in the barn. A party of 24 in this beautifully appointed room overlooking countryside. The staff were wonderful. Always on hand to help but not intrusive. The tea was absolutely delicious and so much of it - they gave us "doggy bags" to take home the leftovers! What's more we didn't have to ask for top ups for tea or coffee, it miraculously arrived on our tables. Thanks to Josh for your assistance in organising a wonderful afternoon, to Aaron for waiting on us to attentively and of course to the Chef for producing such a delicious tea. There are also shops to browse around as well of course the Windmill! Excellent parking too!Visited June 2024Traveled on businessWritten June 18, 2024
- Philippa S3 contributionsPerfect Party VenueThank you to Josh and his team for doing an amazing job hosting my daughter’s 18th birthday party. The ballon arch and birthday themed flower wall was a fantastic touch and the service from Josh and his team was friendly and seamless. The hog roast was just delicious, perfectly cooked and served. We would highly recommend the venue for any party/ event, Josh took all the planning stress away and delivered on providing an excellent event. Thank you so much.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 23, 2024
- Howard B2 contributionsRecommend to anyoneWe held Mary, my partners 80th birthday party at Wymondham Windmill and what a fantastic choice, the purpose built function room which seats 44 with its own bar, kitchen and toilet was the ideal choice. We ordered afternoon tea for our party of 40 which the staff & chef prepared on site & could not fault. I would recommend the Mill to anyone seeking a lovely venue at a very reasonable price, I might just ad there separate tea rooms are very popular too.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 29, 2024

- julka2018Leicestershire, United Kingdom6 contributionsMore could be offered for young childrenFirstly couldn’t fault the food or staff however just thought I’d mention our experience of the play equipment with young children in hope maybe they’ll add or amend what’s there currently. We came last week with a one year old and 2 year old and was disappointed with the play area, It unfortunately is for children 5/6 plus. My kids were desperate to play and they managed to get up the stairs but I barely had time to eat my lunch as I had to keep a very close eye on them. The slide is unfortunately also unsuitable by the way it is designed the kids just thump to the bottom it’s like at a right angle. A plastic wavy slide would have been more appropriate. My parents said there used to be some ride along cars and play houses which are no longer there which was disappointing. It is a lovely area on the whole but nothing on offer for young children , there is plenty of space for something to be added and maybe this could be considered as there is a lot of potential.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 25, 2024
- Passenger037213552074 contributionsLovely cafe, not so lovely fellow diners. We've been coming here for years. The food has always been great and the staff lovely. However, I took a friend and the meal was not enjoyable as numerous dog owners came in the small back room and the dogs were barking at each other. Not a relaxing environment. Owners weren't bothered. I wouldn't take my own dog and put this on other people. Went outside and the other regular addition are the motorcyclists who pull up to the Windmill, leave engines running so you get the noise and fumes. Very considerate. Then one guy circled our table on the grass as he was leaving. Why not ask them to park away from the seating area if they don't care about other people? Sadly, lack of consideration for others seems the norm these days. These things have put us off coming back. All we wanted was a quiet, nice meal and a chat. My previous review was removed.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 29, 2024

Food was ok but the service well below acceptable. We obviously caught her on a bad day as she was either telling people to move out of the way, repeat order, or glaring. Was charged over £30 for 3 bacon sandwiches, 3 cakes and 3 coffees for takeaway which is poor value and non of the items could be said to be particularly good. Better quality and value available locally so won’t be returning.

Having used the CL caravan site at the location for some years now and recommending it to others we have come to the conclusion that we will not be returning. After the mains water burst in Melton Mowbray there was no communication from the owners to see if we or any of the other caravan/motorhomers were OK re water but they had stock piled up at the house for their needs. We only found out when we went to fill up out water containers. So a quick check on severn trent and I followed the update overnight and into the next day, again no update from the owners? So we approached the other campers to see if they had any news and was met with a very obstructive elderly female who was staying at the location in her vauxhall camper van(later to find out it was the owners sister) who stated that the owners had the cafe to worry about and we could get our updates by checking the tap, she stated she felt sorry for her sister that there were whinging and moaning people like us when she had a cafe to run? We are paying customers to?? We were also told we could not walk through the garden to the house to speak to the owner we had to walk round but she could as she was family, this woman was damn right rude. We also found out from a couple from norfolk that the same elderly woman had been working in the cafe a few days before and had lost her temper with them whilst serving them in the cafe - this woman needs removing you are losing custom?
On booking we were not notified of the building work going on from 8 every morning except Sundays? So the website could do with updating?
The caravan location could do with a decent grass cut more regularly as pitch 4 and 5 is very overgrown.
The back field could have a strip cut in it to walk dogs round it instead of it being left overgrown.
The owners could come and say hello to people who are using their facilities like most other CL sites it shows you care you are responsive to their needs and open to contact.
You will lose more custom when your wedding venue starts as people come here to relax and not to listen to someone's wedding going on till early houses of the morning!! Poss another update on your website?
The groundsman could do with looking after the grounds more instead of his sunflowers as the shredded tyres that are used for the children's adventure playground are staining childrens clothes and could do with replacing, the toys in the play area are old and dangerous. If you want coffee and cafe fine, anything else they are lacking.

I visited the cafe today with friends for lunch. Following the rules we waited to be seated and although there was an empty table we stood just inside the door for over 10 minutes. When the waitress eventually decided to pay attention to her customers she completely ignored us and seated the lady waiting behind us at a table. Luckily the young waiter working there helped us out. After lunch we sat in the garden for an about an hour. When I went back inside to get another cup of coffee our lunch time dishes were still on the table !!!
After using the toilet I informed the same young waitress that nearly all of the toilet roll was gone and would need replenishing, she said that she would see to it straightaway. We sat outside for quite some time, 45 mins or so, and just before we were leaving I used the toilet again only to find that this time there was no toilet roll at all. I reported it once again to the same girl who seemed quite surprised that there wasn't any and again she said that she would see to it. I cannot say if this was done or not as I left.
The lunch was very nice, as was the cake that we had later, but I am afraid that our visit was spoilt by poor service and having spoken to other customers I have been told that this is not a one off. It is a shame because both the food and the environment are enjoyable.

Always enjoyed a visit to the windmill and now the addition of Sunday Lunch has made it even more enjoyable. Fantastic value for money at under a tenner for a well presented and beautiful meal.
Meat was cooked to perfection and the homemade Yorkshire definitely made it stand out.
Will certainly be ordering again. Great job :)

We held a wedding here on the 18th September 2021 in the newly built barn. We also had use of the woods and refreshments provided by Josh and his staff. They went out of their way to satisfy our every need and were perfect hosts. I can highly recommend this venue. It was my daughters wedding and the setting was perfect for photos and the reception. This place will go from strength to strength because they have an instinct for knowing what their customers want and need.

Weddings can be stressful. You want guests to have a great time but organising things to be just right is a tough ask and let's not even talk about budgets. Don't worry though because The Windmill at Wymondham has you covered.
Thankfully, for this wedding I was just a guest but you could still see the staff bending over backwards to remove stress and try and make it a great wedding. They succeeded as well. A new Oak Framed hall has been built for events which is a lovely space. Doors open into the private garden that is ideal for drinks and canapés. A bar was provided and food organised. Nothing was too much trouble.
The site itself also has some unique treats - obviously the windmill that makes a great backdrop to any event, but also a woodland with a clearing. With hay bales, fairy lights, blankets and fire pits it was the most amazing place to go after the meal and really made the wedding magical.
They close the tearoom and public area at 4pm so you have the place to yourself from late afternoon. Guests can even book the campsite (accepts caravans as well).
Perfect.
If you want a unique wedding venue then you won't go wrong by choosing this magical wedding venue.

Big let down. I was very disappointed to be sitting outside on damp chairs eating from a plastic tray and drinking from a paper cup. A rural setting should be serving food on plates and drinks in mugs. The cafe full of cyclists dressed for the outdoors so they should sit outside and allow the seats for other customers.
Service really slow. Three counter staff but still waiting 20 mins for a coffee after placing order. Girl on till too slow.
Prices very expensive for a paper cup.
There are other places better value for money. Top prices should reflect top service and a plate.
Look for somewhere else.

Hi Jackie,
thank you for taking the time to give us feedback and review your experience her at Wymondham Windmill. I would just like to say we do understand that takeaway trays and cups are disappointing. So we are currently in the process of building a stunning new outside seating patio from which we will be going back to normal plates, cutlery, cups etc. we are really exciting to get this up and running in the next few months.
with regards to your comments about cyclist sitting outside, I believe this is completely wrong. we will always treat every customer that comes through the door equally, our inside tables are welcome to everyone, whether it be cyclists, walkers with muddy boots and anyone coming to visit. having said that, you can always phone ahead and reserve a table to guarantee a table inside. we do get busy, and this is always recommended as inside seating is limited.
