I've been traveling around New Zealand for sometime now and the second I stepped foot in Dorothy Browns I knew this place was going to be amazing. The staff are incredible and extremely helpful with anything and everything. The wine and cheese platter is a must and both cinemas are very comfortable and cozy. I only wish I could come... More

I showed up to a movie showing the other week and was chastised by a middle aged blond woman for not booking seats ahead of time and was rudely turned away. I decided to give the theater another go and booked for the following weekend with hopes of having a better experience. (I had to go in person to book... More

We are regulars to Dorothy Browns and generally love the experience. However we and others believe that jaffas in cellophane bags with little paper tied ribbons should be banned from any movie theatre. We had to endure jaffa munching cellophane wrapper crunching individuals with no sense or awareness of their disruption....popcorn is the next pet hate. Truly boutique cinemas differentiate... More

Both the main theatre and the den provide a relaxed movie experience, and cheeseboard dining while watching the movie just adds to it all. Comfy seats, boutique feel, friendly staff all make for a great night. And intermission!!! I love intermission here, and miss it in the big commercial multiplexes. Not as cheap as a a multiplex but well worth... More

I love the cinema and watching new movies in all their glory. I'd heard a lot of people talking about Dorothy Brown's so had to give it a go. My first time I watched La La Land. There must have been a new person on the till as it took forever to get the tickets. Also I made the mistake... More

A delightful experience with armchairs and rugs. No masses here in this small personal experience cinema. Have a cheese platter or a wine with your movie.

You'll love heading over to Dorothy Brown's. We make the trip from an hour away to go watch a movie here. It's got great atmosphere, good tea or cold drinks, and a good lineup of mainstream and alternative movies. Worth the visit.

Went to the cinema...however this venue is no ordinary place. Small cosy and relaxing . The film sound quality was excellent and everyone in 'the den' got a good view. I think there could be fourteen seats in total. Comfortable sofas felt like watching at home. Very nice evening.

If the weather outside isnt great, then this is surely an experience to go for. We stepped in to watch a movie in the afternoon. Its a plush old-world style cinema with an eclectic selection of movies. The wine was a bit expensive and not-really-good. The cheese platter was nice though.
