You have to come to hortain plains entrance 1st. Download offline google map before you go there. There is kirigalpoththa trial on the map. And use GPS always to follow the trail on the map. It will definitely make your hike very easy. It's a 14km round walk and hike. You need some strength to accomplish this hike. Though it is a very nice and scenic hike a lot of people turn back in the middle of their trail. If you are lucky enough you can see the view. Unfortunately most of the days the view is not visible due to the mist. It will take around 6hours to complete this hike. You need to start the hike before 11 am. Otherwise they will not allow you to go th

Kirigalpotta is the second highest mountain in Sri Lanka. You need to take that trail through the jungle which might take nearly five hours to finish the trail. First you need to get to Ohiya and you may find affordable places to lodge in the first night and the second day early in the morning need to go to Horton Plains and then most of the People visit world's end while to your right hand side you can take the trail to Kirigalpotta at the start point of Horton Plains. The trail is sometimes difficult to spot but it is fun and exciting. You will walk through savana like grounds, deep forests and pass small water springs and the journey is about 3 hours to the peak of the Mountain. On the peak of the mountain you will have a breathtaking view you will never ever forget.

Kirigalpoththa is one of famous mountain in Sri Lanka.11 Kilometres hiking from Horton Plains Gate. Poduruthalagala is Highest Peak, but Kirigalpoththa elevation is more than that from bottom of the mountain. Not easy, but interesting.

started from Ohiya, walk from ohiya to Horton plains took few hours, and after giving information to the ticket counter (the process is bit different than worlds end trail, due to lack of visitors, only few per month) we started our walk, wet, muddy areas, slippery rocks and elk footprints, along the way and rarely leopard poo on rocks, at the end of savanna suddny you enter to dark forest and again in to plains, after that starts the climb, no water streams at top, stock small amount of water, some times you may feel thirst at top. when you climb up you can see Ambewela milk factory and around. descend and arrive to the counter before 4pm as the weather is not predictable and large groups of elks roam around, and its their kingdom. its a high sensitive nature zone and a national park, obey the rules

Kirigalpotta Mountain via Horton Plains
We had a very early start to ensure good views at Horton Plains. The distance between Nuwara Eliya to Horton Plain is 28.5 km. The private van cost us 6000 Rupees (quite expensive, huh?). The Entrance Ticket price is 15 USD per person.
Off to the Beaten Horton Plain Trail…

Kirigalpotta is second tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, starting from Horton Plains National Park. It was not an easy climb but very interesting. The trail wasn’t marked, no signs at all. Mind you, we got lost on our way back but we’ve managed to go through. So, you need to download the offline Google map beforehand. It took us approximately six hours to get to the top and back down. Other than that, it is a heaven from thrill seekers.

This is one of the best mountain climbs possible in Sri Lanka. There are no words to describe the natural beauty. Situated inside Horton Plains national park, climb takes about 6 hours. It is not very difficult and very enjoyable.
