½ day trip - well worth it.
This is a great hidden spot. The walk in took about an hour and it's through the bush so you need shoes (not thongs) and water...once you get there it s worth the walk. The billabong is fantastic - cold and deep with few places to sit and relax. Leave early, take lunch and have a great day out.

    Worth the wlak
Fairly easy 4km hike past Boulder Creek and into the falls. Really nice plunge pool at the end to cool off it. Nice and clean even when the fall isn’t running that much. Worth going via the lookout either on the way in or out. definitely add it to the trip if you’re heading to Gunlom falls.

One of the highlights of Kakadu!
We went here with my wife while traveling at Kakadu. The place is amazing and was deffinetly one of our highlight during our time at Kakadu. To reach the falls you have to walk on a dirt road/path about 30mins and after that do a little bush + river bed for 15. But Boy is it worth it. Best places are those that are difficult to reach cause you dont have to worry about beer drinking hordes spoiling your perfect swim session at this cool pool. Pros: + Free + No beer drinking kids + No Crocks + Long neck turtles are living at the pool (if you are lucky you might spot em) + Its Amazing Cons: - No cons.

But you need to get there early if you want peace and serenity. We had a lovely swim but later the tours come in - not so picturesque when a troop of hikers with a guide on each end march in. Not sure why they needed to go on a tour in the first place!

Beautiful waterhole and safe swimming. If you park in the 2nd carpark you save 1.5km of walking. The 2nd carpark is down the next road approximately 1km past the first carpark. It is unmarked. When you reach the Creek at the end of the walk you need to clamber up the rocks on the right hand side to reach the waterfall and swimming area.

this was my favourite place but i don't want it to be ruined by loads of tourists so i will just say it is a hot and boring walk in but amazing waterhole and rainforest pocket once you get there

It's a bit of a way getting to the falls but mostly on a flat dirt road until a short scramble over risks at the end. The falls are worth it though - great view and relaxing, closed in location with a large pool to swim in. Take plenty of water.

We visited Motorcar Falls on a very hot day, with high humidity and a temperature around 38 C. A bit over an hour's walk on a mostly well made track and arrived at this amazingly cool pool surrounded by cliffs. The pool is about 35m across, deep water but beautifully cool. This is probably not the best place for young children. You need minimal level of fitness but wear decent footwear (not thongs). Be prepared to spend about 5 hours for a decent amount of time to enjoy the pool.

We camped at the campgrounds and then did the walk out to the falls. Really really lovely and we had a great time swimming. The walk was about 3.5k's but well worth it and you get to cool down in the water. The walk back is pleasant after a swim. We were really impressed with the campgrounds too - very clean and $6 per person was a good deal with $15 for a family

Visited in the wet season which made the relatively easy walk a bit harder because of the heat. This was all rewarded as we reached the waterfall and had a refreshing swim. Not many visitors that time of year, so we had the pool to ourselves for a short while. There current in the pool was fairly strong, and approaching the waterfall is not recomended in the wet season.

There’s little shade on this walk so best to be prepared. While an easy walk, the last part has a few large boulders to clamber over. We took children between 2 - 5 years and it was manageable, but many had to be carried back after their swim thy were puttered out. There is a waterfall close to the carpark, Boulder Falls, which was beautiful. Only about 1km in. The end of the line however, Motorcar Falls was truly magnificent. I wish I’d taken some floating toys for the kids, because the waterhole was quite deep. A magical place, worth a visit.

Disappointed as we're heading to Gunlom but found it was closed. Decided to stop off here on way back as we had never really heard of Motor Car falls.
Approx 3.8 kms each way. Reasonably easy walk for the majority of walk however hot. Very little shade. Last stretch before waterhole is clambering over rocks.
Give yourself at least an hour to do.
Waterhole awesome..running waterfall( currently) , deep water, rocks to lie on and soak up atmosphere and sun and to jump off into water. Water clean some algae but lots of small fish, cherubin, and yes we spotted a turtle.
Large enough to have your own spot in the water even if large group there.
Take plenty of water......
Beautiful find.. We will be back!

We were here in 1989 during the wet season, it was an hours walk to get to the falls but it was worth the walk, The falls were in full flow and impossible to swim up to as the force of the water pushed you back.
