Great mountain to get a fantastic view of the Hawkes Bay. Very organised group of people help you drive safely up the mountain. There are walking tracks too. Could take push bike, car, and even motor home.
Either drive to the top or leave the car at one of the parking areas and walk. But be prepared for a workout. The road is narrow and winding, so drive cautiously. The view from the top is stunning. There are no facilities at the...More
For the first time in about 50 years I drove up to the Summit of Te Mata Peak to show a friend from out of town who was visiting. Unfortunately it wasn't the best of weather - cold, cloudy and windy, but we could see...More
This landmark of the region is certainly worth a visit, despite the practical difficulties in getting there. The summit offers all round excellent views with far away views that are well signposted and easily identifiable.
The practical difficulties of traffic congestion are really well managed...More

Hi Jason R. We did this recently and the purple track round trip from the main carpark is about 1 hour. The Redwoods were in two groves we went through and would probably be between 30-45 minutes in. I hope this helps
Depends on whether you're carrying a lot of equipment or have younger kids. I'd say to allow 30 minutes if so. Maybe a bit more if you have some among you sort of side-tracking off the trail from time to time - I would... More
Depends on whether you're carrying a lot of equipment or have younger kids. I'd say to allow 30 minutes if so. Maybe a bit more if you have some among you sort of side-tracking off the trail from time to time - I would suggest that you take a snack and a wine as well - on a nice day the place just lends itself to a peaceful stop with refreshments while the kids run around nice and safe
