Great mountain to get a fantastic view of the Hawkes Bay. Very organised group of people help you drive safely up the mountain. There are walking tracks too. Could take push bike, car, and even motor home.

From this lookout there are extensive attractive 360 degree district views. The road to the top is windy and steep. There is parking at the top and below.

Either drive to the top or leave the car at one of the parking areas and walk. But be prepared for a workout. The road is narrow and winding, so drive cautiously. The view from the top is stunning. There are no facilities at the...More

For the first time in about 50 years I drove up to the Summit of Te Mata Peak to show a friend from out of town who was visiting. Unfortunately it wasn't the best of weather - cold, cloudy and windy, but we could see...More

This landmark of the region is certainly worth a visit, despite the practical difficulties in getting there. The summit offers all round excellent views with far away views that are well signposted and easily identifiable. The practical difficulties of traffic congestion are really well managed...More

Even from the first car park & info board the view is good but take the road all the way to the top & the 360 view is utterly amazing. The road up is narrow so care required. Better still (if you’re fit, young, silly?,...More

Go before sunrise. You can drive all the way up if you please. The view is sensational and a true 360 degree panorama. I was especially lucky today as not only did I get a great sunrise, but the fog in the surrounding valleys just...More

Amazing views, good road albeit with quite a few hairpin bends, but well worth the effort. Good parking at the top - fantastic views

Hi Jason R. We did this recently and the purple track round trip from the main carpark is about 1 hour. The Redwoods were in two groves we went through and would probably be between 30-45 minutes in. I hope this helps

You can walk for about an hour one way, (low tides). There is a time chart at the entrance to check the timing.
