With someone who is not really into hiking it offers many routes which is great. Very steep though. Going up in a car was great as the view was so great, however the road is quite small.

Just a stunning 360 degree views of the area. You can see the mountain ranges, the sea and everything in between. Simply beautiful with everything so green. Not to be missed. If you're up for it, a hike up to the peak is perfect.

We visited the peak on a sunny day (lucky) and the view was amazing. You can drive your car to the peak so it's totally fine if you don't fancy hiking. There's a rubbish bin there which is quite handy. No toilet facilities at the...More

Though the ride to get from where our ship docked to te mata was a bit long, it was worth every second. The scenery from the base of the mountain to the top was spectacular.

Took the motorbike to the top. Good road, but windy, steep and narrow in places. Great views all over the Hawkes Bay.

Depends on whether you're carrying a lot of equipment or have younger kids. I'd say to allow 30 minutes if so. Maybe a bit more if you have some among you sort of side-tracking off the trail from time to time - I would... More

You can drive right to the top if you like, plenty of car parking at the top. The road to the top is quite narrow and windy however, so take care. However if you do wish you can walk to the top. Wouldn't take long for... More
