Sometimes you find yourself driving as a tourist and then just come across something. This is well worth doing though a bit stressful driving up the tiny roads to the top of the mountain. Amazing views and a great perspective given of the whole area....More

One of the places to visit if you are in the area. Good bicycles tracks if you have a mountain bike. Some sections of the roads are narrow so watch out..

Our accommodation hosts recommended this drive from Napier and it was well worth it. The view just got better and better as we climbed Te Mata Peak - we stopped half way up at the beautifully run Kai at the Peak House Cafe for tea...More

It had been quite a few years since I was at the peak and I’d forgotten how stunning the views are from there, it did help there wasn’t a cloud in the sky when I was there. The views all around Napier, Hastings and Havelock...More

Wow - what a find. We were visiting a friend in Napier and was advised to drive up and take a look. It is fantastic that you can drive right up to the top - I am very lazy! The view up there was amazing,...More

So many tracks. Great to go if you want a pleasant stroll or an energetic work out. New toilet block at the gates car park even has a bike wash for mountain bikers. Great views all around the park

The drive up is quite steep in places, but the view during the drive and up on the peak is really worth seeing.

The road to the top may be a little narrow and scary out of necessity, but the view from the top is unbelievable. This is an absolute must-see for any visitor to Hawkes Bay.

You can walk for about an hour one way, (low tides). There is a time chart at the entrance to check the timing.

Depends on whether you're carrying a lot of equipment or have younger kids. I'd say to allow 30 minutes if so. Maybe a bit more if you have some among you sort of side-tracking off the trail from time to time - I would... More
