A nice walk to the top

We parked in the lower car park and followed the blue markers to the top of Te Mata Peak. The sign states it takes about 2 hours, and it almost did - it was lovely to walk through the redwoods, and there were some parts of the walk that were a bit steep; but the view from the top is... More

Glorious views and great walkways of varying times depending on how long you want to walk. Walks manageable for all fitness levels. Highly recommend big redwoods as magical when in there.

What an amazing place to view Hawke's Bay from. You can either drive up to top by transport or walk one of the several different walking tracks. There are different levels of climbs and distances. The tracks are all colour coded to make sure you don't get lost.

The beauty of Hastings can be seen by visiting this well known site. Its connections to the Iwi of Kahungunu makes it a compelling must visit site

You drive to the beginning of the walk and then decide which trail (all conveniently colour coded) you will follow. Be warned that whichever one you choose there will be a considerable amount of uphill involved and you need to be pretty fit! It is well worth walking to the redwood glade and also to the top of the mountain... More

Drive all the way up to the peak or hike 2.5 hours up. I drove on a sunny day and was rewarded with amazing views of Hawkes' Bay, farmlands, meandering rivers, mountains, green pastures and yea... Mount Ruapehu still streaked with snow from its peak!

We cycled to the car park from the village [not for the faint hearted!] and then walked to the peak. It was a spectacular view at the top and then an easier downhill through the forest back to the car park. A great way to get your bearings n Hawkes Bay.

For the not so confident driver, a slow winding journey will safely take you to the top of this wonderful peak with a 'not to be missed view'. We could see for miles in any direction and even saw Mt Ruapehu in the distance. Simply stunning. We were there early morning so were gifted a gorgeous view of the range... More

What amazing views you get from the vantage point at the top of Te Mata Peak. It is well worth the drive up the narrow road. On a clear day you can see for miles. There are many walking tracks in the area.
