The team at Ash Ridge are doing well at making some really nice wines. Of the various wineries we visited the 2023 Rose was particularly nice. The weather was good, the staff were knowledgeable and helpful and the pizza we had for lunch was pretty good too.

Ash Ridge winery proved to be a very nice stop during a recent wine tour we had with Grape Escape Wine Tours. This place had a simple, subdued feel to it, nothing flashy - down to earth winery that offers some fine wines.

Here we quite enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc (2010), Syrah (2010) and we really liked the Merlot Cabernet (2009) blend. This was a very well balanced wine, one we would have been happy to consume on a regular basis had we lived in this area and had regular access to Ash Ridge wine. It was similar to a wine that we greatly enjoyed at the Salvare Estate Winery.

The winery proprietor was also a friendly character who seemed to enjoy talking about his young vineyard and what he was trying to do with his wine business, helped make the tasting experience a bit more personal and enjoyable.

Overall, this was a pleasant small winery, proving to be one of our favorites of those visited during our recent trip to Hawke's Bay. It was another good stop on the Grape Escape Wine Tour and definitely a winery that we'd like to visit again someday.

Chose to have a family lunch here as sister in law had enjoyed lunch previously with her family. We all grew up in HB and had many great memories of various vineyards in this area
Lovely setting and very quiet on arrival.
Enjoyed sharing the antipasto platters and pizza.
However two in the group had rose which all 7 of us agreed could have been more chilled. We mentioned this to one of the staff and we were told that is the fridge temp 12 deg
However the beer wasn’t cold enough or the coke.
Perhaps these drinks had not been in the fridge long enough?
We are not normally critical of beverage temperature but for all 7 of us to agree the drinks were warm it would’ve been nice for the staff To have acknowledged this. Rather than justify the fridge being the right temperature and it’s a warm day.
Plenty of service attention for wine tasters but we had to ask for any further service
Plenty of places in Hawkes Bay with lovely wines and more diplomatic service

Thank you for writing a review, we appreciate the time and effort people put into giving honest reviews about a business. We honestly do try to show our wines in the best possible light and serve them when at their optimum - after all isn't that what we are here to do. We had this group in for lunch and we managed to serve them promptly. We took the order and served the drinks. It wasn't until we were serving the food a while later that they commented on the wine being warm, nothing was said about the beer. I did informed them that the wine for the glasses comes from our wine fridge that is usually set to 12 degrees, as this is a good temperature to taste the white wines and roses at and have wonderful flavours. We did acknowledge the situation, and unfortunately I didn't offer ice as a solution, but as they had already got through half of the glass before the complaint was offered, we were at a loss of how to rectify the situation. I went to check the fridges and noticed that they were actually set to 10 degrees. The beer fridge is much colder and we generally keep a few bottles of Rose in there for people who order by the bottle. It was a warm day our vineyard thermometers were registering 30 degrees. If wine is ordered by the bottle, we would have been able to keep it in an ice chiller and only pour a small amount at a time would ensure a better way to enjoy chilled Rose on a hot day. We do apologize that they feel our hospitality wasn't to their satisfaction. We will try much harder in future.

Ashridge Wines was a lunch stop while doing a winery bike tour on bikes over several days in the Hawkes Bay. The weather was perfect, despite it being Autumn and the team at Ashridge were friendly and accommodating. We shared a couple of platters and some very nice wine to taste. I have been here before with a local friend at which point I joined up to their wine club so that I can have their delicious wine delivered to my doorstep twice a year. There are lots of vineyards in the Hawkes Bay but this one is unpretentious and caters well for groups, couples and children. A great view of wind turbines across the vineyards too. Well worth a visit

We went on a wine tour with some colleagues and this Winery was our last stop - talk about save the best for last! Loved their wines, friendly people, a really laid-back experience. I joined the wine club based on my experience there, and now receive excellent boutique wines on a regular basis. Really pleased we went to Ash Ridge; I thoroughly recommend this winery :)

We visited quite a few wineries in the area, and this one was by far our favorite!

The tasting itself was informative, friendly, and DELICIOUS! The wines were truly another level when it came to the quality, in my opinion.

This winery also runs bike tours starting and ending from here, so that would totally be an option as well if you were interested. We drove and there was parking.

I would highly suggest a stop at Ash Ridge!

To start with the wine is one, you can not stop with just one bottle that is how nice and enjoyable it is. The new pizzas are real nice & there is always plenty on them. The staff are always helpful & friendly. It would nice to be able to take out a picnic to have there with their wine.

When we were there to enquire for biking around the vineyards, the guy on the counter wasn't very friendly and helpful. The price for the bikes was very expensive and the bikes weren't good either. We haven't tasted the wine there, but the service was definitely not great!

Thank you for writing a review, we appreciate the time and effort people put into giving honest reviews about a business. Really what this review shows is the fallout from when somebody demands something and throws their toys out of the cot for not getting what they want regardless of whether it is part of your service offering or not. In this instance this is the second review from this reviewer, having had the first one rejected, obviously they have an axe to grind here! Overall we can only deduce that these people only came to Ash Ridge Wines as there is also a bike winery tour company there too. They were not interested in what Ash Ridge Wines had to offer; they didn't stay for a tasting and didn't experience Ash Ridge's hospitality. Looking into is, from the bike winery tour company's perspective they can only deduce that one of three things occurred here: 1. They turned up on a busy day and hadn't booked, and this is just sour grapes for not planing ahead. 2. They just wanted to hire bikes to accompany friends who bought their own bikes, which is against the bike tour company's policy as they don't hire bikes, they do a winery tour by bike which is more inclusive than just giving someone a bike. 3. They arrived in the early afternoon to do the wine tour and were told that the same full day price applies regardless of what time you arrive and have to return the bikes at 4pm. Expensive? Many companies hire bikes for $15 per hour so their rates are in line even if you hire for 3 hours - which is the minimum for a wine tour. Lastly, we feel that a little bit of prior research on the web, or a phone, call may have avoided any misunderstandings and we can avoid situations like this in the future. After all, its meant to be reviews about Ash Ridge Wines, not someone else.

We visited three wineries on our trip and found this to be the best. One for the wines (an important element) but also for the entertainment (ever enjoyed a good wine in a dull atmosphere?) provided by Sonya (with a Y). Just enough information blended lightly into a fruity, powerful and full bodied repartee, with rounded tones of desperate housewives releasing a breath of homespun Kiwi grit and mirth. The lady is a star and highly reccomended for a visit.
