This is a great beach to walk along and to swim in. Plenty of room to lie around and lovely old bachs to look at. It's an easy walk down to the beach, but a harder hill to climb on the way back.

Waves far too big and sand too loose. Little to no grip when swimming, you will sink each time a big wave comes in. There was also a big drop if you went too far out so we packed up and headed back to our accommodation and enjoyed their pool instead.

Safe swimming on a quiet beach is just what we wanted. I only wish the ocean was 4/5c warmer but it was refreshing.

The beaches in Paihia are nice enough to sit on and enjoy the sun and the sea but there's something just not quite right about them. However, a short ferry trip over to Russell to sit on Long Beach is a must when visiting the BOI on a lovely day. Crystal clear waters for swimming, beautiful golden sands for relaxing and usually not as crazy busy as the beaches over in Paihia can get.

One of my favourite beaches in Northland, but far more easily accessible than the others.

Very pretty little village, perched above the beach a ribbon strip with galleries, lots of art and craft shops representing fine Island and NZ artisans, Oyster Inn high overlooking the bay and all the services for a bustling residential and tourist trade.
We bought a few items and very happy with a Tony Sly pottery bowl bought from some pleasant ladies.

What a fabulous stretch of golden, unspoiled beauty. We drove over the hill from Russell where a cold wind was blowing, into the peace and warmth of Long Bay.
We walked the length of the beach and back, less quickly than we had planned because we kept bumping into friendly people who stopped to chat about the Bay of Islands, or their dogs, or where they lived. It was a delight.

A short drive from Russell is the beautiful Oneroa Bay and Long Beach. A lovely sandy beach which we enjoyed strolling along.

While staying at Russell we walked to this beach each morning and afternoon. It's a beautiful stretch of beach and views of nearby islands add to the enjoyment.

A short walk over the ridge on a nicely laid out path.A short drive though parking could be a problem. Not much in the way of seats but pleasant enough to sit on the sand.
