These are smallish gardens but we spent a couple of hours exploring its nooks and crannies. Open 24 hours a day except for the Chinese section. We went back a few times during our time in Nelson. A lot is packed in all served up with well placed and interesting info boards. I particularly enjoyed the peaceful Chinese section but the water features, huge and small trees, wild areas, well-managed areas and the birds mean that there is something here for everyone to enjoy.

The colonial towns of NZ all seem to be blessed with beautiful gardens, and Nelson is no exception. A lake full of aquatic birds is a highlight, as is a small Chinese garden. Well worth and hour of your time.

Sad gardens...need a makeover by someone who knows about public gardens.
Neglected would sum it up. Too many trees, borders need a good clean up.
Duck pond a sad shadow of it's former self.
Walking the surrounding streets I became aware of how neglected the old houses and gardens are. The Council need to make an effort to make it a "garden city" again. River walk needs attention also.
I always liked visiting Nelson for it's gardens...not any more.

Wandered through here on an autumn morning and nice to see people just reading and having coffee.
Garden is a mix of old english trees, native NZ bush and a few ponds.
Yes it might have looked better at one stage but its kept miles better then the Japanese Garden.
It's so close to town it would be a shame to miss it if you are staying in town.
Nice to have a quiet coffee at Sutter Cafe that is on the border of the garden too

This was a pleasant park. It was a hot day and the trees provided welcome shade. Locals seemed to be making good use of it - a few were doing Tai Chi and it leant itself to that kind of activity. A good hour well spent.

Nice place for an easy stroll. Shame the waterways are not kept cleaner. Some very impressive trees with a good mix of native and exotic. I imagine it would be s nice place for a picnic in summer.

What a park to be proud of! This is an exquisite park in the heart of Nelson and is sure to please. Gorgeous from the minute you step inside this sanctuary. Make sure you hit all the trails as there are a couple of nice surprises waiting. Give it a good 40 minutes or longer if you're in the mood to linger.

Just along Bridge St a short walk towards the river. Queen's gardens is well worth a visit.Water birds in the ponds, flowers, and mature trees with plenty of seating in shady sports. It's a small area but well worth a visit. Have a coffee or lunch after just next door at the Suter gallery.

A nice place to wander around - some interesting signage and a little Japanese garden to boot. To top it off it sits adajacent to the Suter Gallery whose cafe gives you some lovely views over the garden.

Ideal if you're looking for somewhere for grownups to sit whilst kids 'explore'!

If you are visiting or live in Nelson, I would recommend a stroll through these gardens either before or after enjoying lunch at the Suter Cafe and visiting the Gallery. A quiet and peaceful haven within a city is always welcome.
