- GStar31 contributionsSo friendly & safety was paramountLate review as I had a go at this at the end of December! The owners were super friendly and their instructions and guidance excellent. Our safety was their main concern as well as trying to help us get the hang of it! It was a bit gusty that day and changing wind directions made it harder than it should have been, but you can’t judge exact conditions until you get there. Whilst not technically complicated having an understanding of how wind works with sails in order to move an object helps! Theoretically a windsurfer should do well but that’s not necessarily the case... We were able to get going and get a feel for it which was fun. You really need to be going some to turn it on it’s side - and you get 3 warnings for turning it over and then asked to leave. This is reasonable given that you won’t have been following instructions if you do it that many times. In all we felt safe, well looked after and really enjoyed it as a different type of activity to do in Nelson.Visited December 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten February 13, 2020
- JoRhys89 contributionsA must and great priceGreat fun for all of the family. Best on a windy day, so the sails fill with air to more you along fast. Staff/owners very helpful in showing and helping you when you couldn't get the wind on the sail. A must and a great price.Visited September 2020Written October 7, 2020
- RMSuLondon, United Kingdom45 contributionsNot to be missedHaving seen this site from riding by on the Great Taste Trail we decided we had to give it a go !Great decision. Easier than expected, fast, exciting but it felt safe. Run by a lovely helpful couple it should be on the to do list of anyone in the area.Visited February 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 10, 2020
- Iain MKidlington, United Kingdom6 contributionsAwesome, brilliant etc.6 of us age 30 to 65, 50 to 100kg all set out on Murray and Ellie's karts. We all picked it up pretty quickly and had a great time. Don't worry about tipping over, as the kart frame is quite supportive. Get the 4m sail if you can...Visited December 2014Traveled with familyWritten December 27, 2014

- Deeks HSydney, Australia8 contributionsWindy Day and Great FunA very exciting experience for me and my two kids, as you go zooming along on a windy day! It was very safe, and if your kart tipped, your seat belt and helmet kept you safe. The staff were very friendly but it was a little hard to understand how to work the kart. Bit of a baptism of fire on a day when the wind must have been gusting over 30 knots. It was awesome once you got the hang of it. It was excellent value, as it is a very fun and unique experience. Better signage (and website) would be helpful, as you have to look for tiny signs directing you to the area of the wind karting. Lots of fun and I would recommend it to anyone! And hope that this business generates more custom and sticks around for a long time.Visited January 2014Traveled with familyWritten January 16, 2014
- AndyBInWiltshire102 contributionsEasy to pick up and great funI wasn't quite sure how I would get on with this, as it was my first time and I have no sailing experience. But I had a great time. I was soon whizzing around and up on 2 wheels. If it gets too fast you just let go of the rope. The staff were very helpful and one of them came out to show us the lines. My son (13) also had a great time. It is quite tiring, so one hour is plenty for most people.Visited October 2019Written October 28, 2019
- orangeflashEpsom, New Zealand7 contributionsAwesome fun!I went along to Vortex Wind Karting with a couple of friends on a windy Nelson day to have a go and something new and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Their blokarts are an absolute blast to race around the track and are surprisingly easy to get the hang of after a few laps. It was definitely worth the $50 for an hour of racing, and is the perfect activity to do with a bunch of mates on a windy day.Visited February 2019Traveled with friendsWritten February 13, 2019
- Janne THelsinki, Finland57 contributionsGreat fun!I went there 28 January and it was so much fun! I windsurf and sail so picking up the ropes was quite easy but I am sure that you learn this fast without prior experience. These cars accelerate so fast when you pick a gust but still it feels safe. I was cruising mostly solo on the track and if you have bunch of friends then this will be even way better. All in all very nice activity and some contrast to the hiking in Abel Tasman.Visited January 2019Traveled soloWritten January 28, 2019
