About
Situated deep in the Wairoa Valley, The Gorge is home to over 70km of hand-built mountain bike trails that run through a lush native and beech forest environment. The trails in The Gorge are sublime and have to be experienced to be fully appreciated. The grades run from three right up to six and there is more riding than anyone can handle in a day.

By far the best technical hand built trails I've ever ridden, and the shuttle set up and access is super efficient and effective. The staff were epic, very helpful and worked hard to make sure we had a good time. Highly recommend as a must do for upper level intermediate and advanced riders, The Gorge is where it's at! Also it's pretty good value for how much riding you get, we hit it twice in a month and will hit it every time we go to Nelson in the future.

This is hands down the best riding in New Zealand. It probably equals that of Canada. It is amazing no matter what the weather. With limited numbers, it feels like a private park for the day. The shuttles, drivers, lunch hut, and vibe are all incredible. The trails are just EPIC! Full faith in the builders that blind drops and corners are all rollable in the wet and dry, and you just have to trust their skill and your ability to stay off the brakes. Unreal.

Awesome riding with greats hand built trails, friendly and helpful shuttle drivers that give good advice on which trail will suit riders abilities best. We had 3 dads with 3 thirteen year olds and the kids developed skills during the day; starting with intermediate flowing tracks to more technical tracks later in the day. Beautiful native bush and even saw a native morepork bird during the morning (nocturnal).

I've been to The Gorge multiple times and look forward to going back whenever I have a chance. It's always an epic day of riding. Took my teenage son on most recent visit, he really enjoyed it and want's to go back as soon as he can. Highly recommended!!!

This hidden gem never disappoints. The trails were in great condition and we rode a variety of hand built grade 3/4/5 tracks throughout the day. Super friendly shuttle driver and very chilled vibes. So nice to not have to rush down the hill for the next shuttle. The forest and variety of tracks on the hill is awesome, you always leave needing to return to tick of more trails! Do not miss riding here when you come to Nelson…

Just amazing trails, epic scenery, incredible people. You’ll be challenged but it will be worth it and even skipping a lap or 2 to catch your breath and enjoy the surroundings is no sad thing!

We had a fantastic time staying at Gibbs hut for the weekend and riding the some best private trails in New Zealand.
There's a great range of fun riding as well as the more technical grades. Plenty of progression.
Will definitely be back again!

An incredible resource that shouldnt even really exist!
Every time we ride the Gorge it is epic. So much riding packed into a day, on trails that compare with anything in the country.
Staffed by total enthusiasts who cant do enough to help.
Frankly only criticism is its not busy enough. The Nmtbc is doing a great job of keeping a billionaires playground open and accessible...all we need to do is go and support it by riding it.

The most unique hand built single-track trails in New Zealand. Native, beech, pine forest. Has a rep for being gnarly but that's absolutely not the case (I'm a solid Grade 4 rider). There's something for everyone. The laps are long (spoiled much?) but if you have a group, you can choose to do top laps (which is still the equivalent of Rotorua top to bottom!). Dog friendly (especially the top section that's native and beechy)! And staying at one of the lodges is a must, they offer Stay & Play packages. They also offer transport from Nelson City which is awesome.
