There is a lot more in Slovenia to be experienced beyond Julian Alps! I decided to go a bit off-the much-beaten path of Bled, Bohinj and Postojna, to truly experience the beauty of nature with "Nature in Colour". This was a custom tour, and we decided to visit Lake Cerknica and Rakov Å kocjan. The landscape of this region is very unique and indeed beautiful. Paul is a very passionate biologist and nature lover. He is an expert of this area. In the excursion, he helped me experience the hidden gems of nature, that might be missed by an untrained eye and ear.
Some of the highlights of the day were Black Storks, the landscape of Lake Cerknica and the little bridge at Rakov Å kocjan!
I also enjoyed talking to Paul on various topics ranging from the local culture of Slovenia to the Environmental challenges being faced here. Indeed, there is a lot of similarity between Slovenia and India (from where I come), in all these areas.
At the end of day, I would definitely recommend this experience to a nature lover! It will be an unforgettable experience.

Thanks Prachi, it was very nice to have you as my guest! I always enjoy being with visitors from other parts of the world, because this makes me look again at all the common plants and animals over here. - although those black storks are not so common at all! Hope to see you again one day. P.

Paul took us on a special trip, around Lake Cerknica. Eventhough the weather wasn't cooperating as it was the wrong time of the year, we got to see a lot of animals. Especially, much more then we would have seen on our own. Paul knows his way around and tells interesting stories. And just having been told where to look helped us to see more - in our case, reptiles and amphibians- later on our trip. You really should have him take you around.

Thanks Peter, I'd love to go with you to the coastal area in early spring! Especially, there is a place which is managed for birds where the planted forest largely removed and extensive grazing is brought back a couple of years ago. Some years ago there were hardly any reptiles, but I was there recently with other guests, and we saw surprisingly many juvenile karst lizards (Podarcis melisellensis), which makes me wonder if other reptile species are also making a comeback there. P.

Paul and Jana prepared a 3 ½ day, 4-night custom itinerary for our party of four. This included farmhouse accommodation in a unique rural setting, all meals, transportation, and entry to various attractions such as caves and castles. The focus of our trip was bird watching and we found Jana knowledgeable, professional, organized and fun to be with. But birds were only part of our adventure. We also learned about various aspects of nature in Slovenia and this rounded out our wonderful experience and memories of the Karst region. We highly recommend Nature in Colour.

Hi Gretchen, we are happy how it turned out as well. To us, it is always special to have guests from different parts of the world, for whom "our everyday plants and animals" are just as new and exciting as the species which are rare over here. I certainly hope to see you again some day!

Paul and my group of three went on a trip around Postojna. One of us was specifically interested in butterflies while two of us were mostly interested in a walking tour. Paul combined the two perfectly and I can say all three of us had a beautiful trip. Paul knows a lot about nature, birds, insects, and Slovenia in general. Needless to say we learned a great deal that day. And also not unimportant, the lunch picnic was great :-)

Had a great day at Cerknica Lake, seeing it in winter with a lot of snow is amazing! The tour started with information about the lake and the wildlife at the museum. The whole tour is very informative and interesting but most of all this place is extremely beautiful. We also went for a horse ride and got a delicious meal after seeing the lake. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

We had an amazing day ar Cerknica lake. A really nice walk around the lake was complemented by the visit of the museum that has an amazing scale model that shows the tides system of the lake, then a horse carriage ride to the neighboring town for a huge local lunch! A very complete tour provided by knowledgeable guides from Nature in colour!!

Hi Marianne,
Actually, you have seen just a small part of the lake, because when there is water, Lake Cerknica is the largest lake in Slovenia. One day, you should see the springs when water is rushing out of the rocks, and another day, when there is no water at all, you cold see the sinkholes where the water has disappeared in the ground. Glad you liked it!

Went on a tour recently where they were able to accommodate a large group of us, all studying tourism and ecotourism. Got great information on the Lakes and learned a lot. Was shown some amazing spots to see wildlife, had a great taste of local culture as they organized a DELICIOUS meal for all of us.

Thank David! It was our pleasure to show you this great place. I certainly hope to see you again after the winter, when there is less snow and we can go to other places as well.

Paul and his company organize some very interesting trips in the region and his knowledge and presentation of this very special place will make it more than worth your while. In such a place its important to have some one who can simplify the complicated geology and biodiversity that the place has to offer. Paul is just the guy.
Cheers
Thanks so much Paul
See you soon

We went with Paul on a tour for about two days. He was very flexible and amenable, and well connected with the locals. Above all, though, he was extremely knowledgeable not only about the area and its wildlife but in ecology and biology in general, so we got a very thorough tour and had some very enjoyable conversations about nature! We'd love to do another tour when the lake is full and more birds are out - choose your timing wisely!

Hi Tessa, and thank you for being my guest! Actually, there is a BIG lake right now, because we had lots of rain in the past days. This is what is so special about Lake Cerknica, it is very different every day! This is the kind of place which is worth visiting many times, because it reveils it's secrets slowly, one by one. Now the weather has cleared up and red deer start rutting at night ... P.
